So, i'm looking for someone to do the whole motivation thing with me on this sight. I'm pretty obsessive about weight control, i'm a sophomore in college. At my lowest weight, i was a very unhealthy 90 pounds. I am now about 125, wanting to get back down to 118-120. I am 5'4 ish. I really need someone to keep me on track health wise, and just to kind of talk and share motivation tips with. add me if you are in!

Hey there!

I'm volunteering myself as your college buddy. We have very similar goals :)

I'm a dancer... and I'm doing the musical CATS in December and I want to lose around 10 lbs. I'm exactly 5'5, and 126 lbs now. What have u started doing? P.s , does your mom think you're nuts? lol
hey, I'm about 5'4 as well, and going into my second year of college, and I'll volunteer to be a buddy as well! haha
I'll be a buddy! My stats are on my profile, but I'm pretty close to you... I need to do strength training and build a bit of muscle... I'm a freshman at the University of Michigan...
Omg littlegirl.... your university has the best music theatre program evvverrrr! wow. haha did u know that?

So ladies, this is awesome so far. :)

Here's what I'm trying to do. 1 hr and 30 mins at the gym 6 days a week (sundays are spent by the pool) I do the elyptical trainer, and weight training and stretching my splits and stuff. I also invested in 6 sessions with a personal trainer.

Ive recently started calorie counting and I'm tryin to stay under 2000 a day. But I get hunger pains and my minds wants delicious food and I try so hard to resist.

I weighed 121 in June and all the sudden I;m 126!! AHHH! haha so i need to lose it. any suggestions?
I'm a college girl... going to be a sophomore in a little over a week! Yikes. I'm not ready for school to start. I'm 5'6" and started this summer (Begining of June) at 131. I now weigh 119 as of this morning! I just hoping I can keep it off over the school year.
wow how did you do it? share your tips please!
Hey!

I' m 5'4 as well and right now at 135lbs.  I'm hoping to get around 125lbs with calorie counting and working out ...since being on CC I've learned the importance of weight training and now I'm incorporating that into my workout as well! I'd love to be a buddy, even though you seem to have a few lined up already! I just finished a two year music degree at a college and now I'm starting at a new university doing english/history. I love writing too!...although I don't do it nearly as much as I'd like to anymore.

I workout 5-6x a week - I do a mixture of Slim in 6, elliptical, resistance band/free weights, and Ultimate Walking Workout DVD(harder than it sounds!).  I also try to eat between 1200-1500 cal/day.

Feel free to message me!
lol stephguest, no i didn't know it was the best ever... I haven't gone to any of their productions yet, but I will and I can't wait! Where do you go?
cool jettaranger... your plan sounds pretty awesome and i wish u luckery luck charms :) lol

Do you guys find u eat better when u come home from school... or at school? All I know is at school i'm in control of what groceries are in my kitchen :) which is better.

Omggggg littlegirl... watch some of their dances on youtube! holy sh*t!!! i go to st. lawrence college in ontario, canada :) wooo Canadian! :) Definitely check out their performances... wish I could!

Oh p.s, what is Slim in 6??
Hey there! I have the same stats as you- 5'4"/125 lbs. and would also like to get around 120 or a little under. I would also like to be a little more toned. How much do you eat a day/ exercise?
Right now I'm working full time at an office (I'm there right now...heheh) and I find it the easiest to watch my food here because I have such a strict schedule for the day. The weekends are harder because I sleep in and I don't have the same exact times that I eat.  This year at school I'm budgeting about 50$/week for groceries but I'm going to try to spend only $40 and buy very little "junk" food (that includes 100cal bags of cookies!). Last semester at school I bought one box of fudgeos (mmmmm I LOVE chocolate!) and I allowed myself one a  week and by the end of the semester I still had a few left! I had them up in my closet on a top shelf so I wasn't looking at them and it was a hassle to get it down too, so I had to REALLY want it! For my chocolate cravings (which I have frequently), I kept a standing bag of regular M&Ms on my desk and just had 3-5 every time I really needed it. That worked.  I'm better with little cravings but sometimes I really want pizza or Quiznos or Kraft mac and cheese (my favourite food ever!) and I just give in.  I think the snacking is normally what kills me (and most people) anyway, so the more I watch that the more I can allow myself one cheat meal every so often.

Slim in 6 is a program from Beachbody.com...I think they also make Power 90...Hip Hop Abs...Anyway, I got mine off Ebay (it was still a lot though!) and I really like it! It has three workouts...a starter thats 25 min to get used to the 'moves' (you do one week of this), then another thats 46 minutes (I think you do this for two- three weeks), and then the last one is an hour (I'm not at that one yet).  I don't expect perfection in 6 weeks, but I've read about a LOT of success stories with it.  It combines cardio with resistance training.  You need a resistance band..on the dvd she uses the one with handles but I just used a pilates one I had already.  My walking workout DVD is one I got free and I never used to like dvd cardio stuff...but I love this one and prefer it to the elliptical (old favourite) any day!
Wow you and I will probably KEEP finding things in common...
I'M AT THE OFFICE TOO! hahaha And yes... it's much easier to control my eating here. And I down many glasses of water daily. But when i go home... my kitchen is packed with junk... and i looove junk.

I crave sweet chilli heat doritos so bad but i only allow myself a small portion on the weekends.

At school, I split groceries with my room mates, and we're all dancers so we try and keep it healthy but man we need lots of energy to get through the types of days we have.

I find that when i get hungry at work or home... I'm usually just dehydrated and so I chug some water or delicious crystal lite.

That fudgeeo idea is priceless Stefani hahaha. Not a bad idea. My room mates and I go a little chocolate crazy at times too : s and our excuse is "we'll just dance it off tomorrow at school"
haha easier said than done right?

What are everyone thoughts on eating before/after working out?
yay i'm glad this had such a response!!! i try to eat enough, but i take Adderall for ADHD and it KILLS my apetite. I try to get 1,000 calories a day. I work out every day that i can, usually taking off the weekends. I do an hour of cardio at least 5 days a week, and then i maybe 3 days of strength training. and yes stephguest...my mom definitly thinks i'm nuts. She keeps trying to explain that i'm just at the age where my weight naturally goes up...but i have this FEAR of gaining a lot of weight as I get older.
whoa, I'm at the office TOO!! And I will check that out on youtube this afternoon steph... jettaranger, you said you spend $40-$50 a week on groceries, how much does everyone else spend and how many meals is that for? (do you have a meal plan too?) My plan is 13 meals/week...
Hey everyone! Im a college sophomore as well!! (Nursing major) Currently eating an apple on my lunch break and forcing this water down my throat! haha :)

Well I'm a lot bigger than all you :(   5'6 and i weigh 157.

Well back to the office.  Just thought i'd say hi!!

OH I almost forgot.....  So you think you can dance FINALE SHOW!!  WHOA! TONIGHT! haha :)

jettaranger-  Hey i have the same lifestyle w/ the whole office work Mon-Fri and sleeping in on the weekends! lol I always hate the weekends because im home with the dreaded... FOOD CABINETS!

Hey!

I am headed off to college in a week. I am 5'3 and weigh 130 lbs. I want to get down to around 115. I have been that thin before, but it takes some upkeep.

:)
oh wowwwwwww. im so glad i'm talking to you girls. Nice goin hippie lol!

I have been tryin to get meds to help my focus problems at school. I'm so upset tho cuz I have this stupid heart condition SVT and i'm not allowed any stimulants. Cuz i heard that the meds suppress your appetite and that would be an added bonus. SO in order to get meds... i'm having heart surgery soon. And i'm scared but it will cure me forever :D

What about eating before and after working out?? Don't u get hungry with only an apple and water for lunch? I just ate a 2 egg omelette with red peppers and chedder cheese... time to log that food :s
So I just came back from my lunch break...man it was good to go somehwere else! My office building is in the middle of an industrial area so I can't really go walk anywhere and normally I just stay at my desk.  There are a few tables outside though so sometimes I go read my book and sit outside and hope that the sun will wake me up a little!

As for groceries, my old college had a meal plan so I'm not sure how far that 40$ will go. My  sister said 40-50$ so I'm just going off what she says.  I think the more meals are planned in advance the more you can save because you'll really know EXACTLY how much you're eating, so you won't buy extra just cause "it's good to have around."  Do you know what I mean? I'll also save money by not buying pop and chips and stuff (maybe pop once a month, but that will be a can at a time.)  I'm trying to buy the same stuff I"m getting now; Dempsters Smart Bread, low fat mozza cheese, anything President's Choice (like tomato sauce) I get in the Blue Menu line (always healthier), whole wheat pasta, calorie wise Kraft Creamy Cucumber, carrots...I just tried these Nature Valley Fibre Source Apple Cobbler bars and they're really good! Also only 120cal and 5g of fibre...so they're a healthy AND low cal snack!

Sarah: I think my schedule is going to be way thrown off when I start school again. Right now I have breakfast at either 6:30 or 7 (always within half an hour of walking up), tea at 9am, snack at 10:45, lunch at 12, snack at about 2:30, and then if I'm getting home really late from work I have a small snack at 4 and then dinner at 6:30.  If I'm still hungry I have a snack at about 8:30pm.  With a random class schedule it's going to be so hard to eat on track! I try to eat every 2-3 hours, although I'm hungry way more often! Right now I'm living at home and I've pretty much gotten my parents to stop buying any "junk" food. There's still FOOD around the house though, and since I'm hungry, it's just as tempting! I know you can always eat vegetables or something, but I dont want to assume that just because something is healthy I can keep eating it all I want.

OH another yummy thing for people with access to President's Choice brand stuff is this sparkling drink they have.  It's called Free and Clear and has no cal/fat/sugar/carbs, etc...basically just flavoured water but BETTER.  It's fizzy and I love the tangerine-lime one.  It's good because sometimes drinking water makes me nausteated (I've gotten much better..usually 2L a day!), so this is a good drink if I want some liquid but need flavour.

The good thing about working at an office is that I always want to get up from my desk so the more water I drink the more chances I have to go refill it! I've also been doing exercises in the washroom when no one is there...ha ha...pushups on the wall, calf raises, etc.. SHH! :)

Steph: For the "we'll dance it off later" mentality...I read a quote from a businessman talking about working out and he said that when he was trying to decide if he wanted a 'fatty' snack he would say to himself "did I run for this today?"  It doesn't always work, and sometimes you just have to relax and eat what you REALLY want.  But that has stuck in my head sometimes...I don't eat "fatty" snacks but if I want to go over my calories I think about how much I worked out....the snack can be like a reward.  For me, working out right now is just as much for being healthy as it is for developing the habit.   I know I'm not going to get lose these last few pounds fast, but I know that being consistant and making working out a routine is an accomplishment on it's own for me, because in the past I've never been diligent enough with my workouts to make them a priority.  I don't binge and snack after, but if I want to go over a bit and I've been consistant with my workouts, I think I deserve it. I think we're a lot harder on ourselves generally than we need to me.

HOLY THIS WAS LONG!

Oh well..we're all at offices...what better things do we have to do? ;)
Oh yes...eating before/after:

I've read so much on this and the general concensus seems to be to do what's best for you.  I usually work out about an hour and a half after I've eaten.  I dont' have an appetite/energy to eat after I work out.  I've read that it's important to have protein after you workout to help rebuild your muscles, but since right now I'm more at a fat loss rather than muscle gain period...I'm not working my muscles THAT much that I think I need to eat protein after.  I eat every 2hours about...so maybe 1.5 hours after I workout I'll have a little snack.  It always depends on how I feel; I've tried the variations of eating before/not eating before/only eating after, etc, and I have found no difference.  The only thing I personally would not do is workout first thing in the morning without eating. 1) I believe that eating within half an hour of walking up makes a difference and 2) I think that your body will still burn calories and you'll get your metabolism going for the rest of the day (people would rather not eat so that it has to burn fat right away...I don't think this is the case).  I think that if you eat you'll have more energy and ultimately be able to work yourself more in the workout.

Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
