college girls, I have a question for you

Do you wear skirts that are so short that people can see your cheeks? I am asking this because I just saw a girl like that in the street and I could not believe it. If you are wondering, no she was not a prostitute (I think ;-) ), I was not on the beach or anywhere near a beach. It was just a young girl who crossed the line between sexy and gross. Is that common among young college girls to wear things that inappropriate?  Is it a cultural difference (I'm from Europe) or a generation gap? Or what?

Some girls do it because they think it's cute or don't know that there is that much showing. I personally rarely wear any kind of short skirt (something that will hopefully change in a few months hehe) but it definitely it's really a norm here, I don't think.

Haha!  No, I definitely do not, and it's a little too cold here to wear short skirts anymore.  Most girls here wear leggings if they wear skirts.

my legs are so white, and jiggly, that I wouldnt even dare.  I dont even wear shorts in the summer cause I hate my legs.  But I have seen this, It isn't cute.  I think they just dont know that people can see that much.  Well if they do know then I dont know why they are doing this?  Probably cause its not illegal yet hahahaha

I thought public indecence was not legal in the US. Of course, it depends on what you define as indecent...

i know, I say its indecent, but if the cop is a male, he will probably disagree... LOL j/k but seriously, i think they define it like you have to have no shirt, or no pants, or a private part (and the cheek part of the butt not included) sticking out.  I dont know cause I have never faced this in the law.  I'm always fully clothed!!!

i appreciate fully clothed people, especially women when they are in the neighborhood of my husband :-)

I like short skirts, but my legs are so long that skirts that other people say are "long" look short on me! So I wear kind of medium-length skirts and they look short but they cover me well :) I adore my legs so I like to show them off but never to the point where I'm exposing too much.

I wear skirts past my knees. At my high school ,they wore them mid-leg. But I'm a bit of a prude.

I am a former student of a fairly well-known southern california party school. We have pretty good weather here all year long so it was definitely not uncommon to see girls with barely-there skirts (not to mention the shorts). Let me tell you, it was often a major bummer having to be around all these girls who look like they are auditioning to be one of Hugh Hefners girlfriends or the next Pussycat Doll!!!

I thought the super-short skirts this Fall were meant to be worn layered with leggings?  Maybe that girl missed the memo.

i just don't understand those girls. I might be a bit prude sometimes, although less now than when I was a very insecure flat chested teen, but where is their dignity? How can anyone look at herself in the mirror, see her butt cheeks poping out of the skirt and think "that is sexy"? I just think indecent, gross, rude. But not cute or sexy

Why is our society so fixed on what women wear - who is deciding the thin line between being sexy & sluty??  Who is deciding how much skin is too much skin showing? And since when does showing skin = being a prostitute?  Who decided that a butt cheek is gross, rude, and inappropriate??  I mean...when you really analyze the situation you can see how much our social NORMS have been decided for us without us even having to think on our own.

lebg, truthfully, i think plume is quite capable of thinking on her own and formulating her own opinion as to what is acceptable and what is not acceptable.

who decides? plume decides for plume. you decide for you. i decide for me.

dont attribute someones opinion to a norm like they are not intelligent enough to decide for themselves just because you dont agree or choose to rebel against what you perceive to be the norm.

believe it or not, some people just really dont care to see your ass hangin out no matter how lovely it may be.  dont make it more complicated than it really is :)

At my college we actually have a (very commonly used) word for girls like that:  sorostitutes.

Now, that word isn't used to imply all sorority sisters, nor does a girl even have to be in a sorority for it to apply.  It refers to a girl whose apparent purpose at college is not education, but recreation of a very specific type.

"Sorostitutes" generally don't accept money as payment, preferring to receive their compensation in copious amounts of alcohol.

Thanks watergirl. Legb, if you think dressing like that is fine, sexy or respectable in any way, I won't prevent from dressing like that. Just be aware of the image you would send to the people around you might not be what you are hoping for.
I think it's gross bc, as someone mentionned in my journal, there will always be somebody who has to sit on the same chair in class after that girl. Indecent, yes, I think it is indecent and that's probably partly due to the way I was raised, but not only. You don't go to a university to show off your bottom cheeks. You go there to get an education and learn to be and behave as a grown up who supposedly will get a job and contribute to society after. It's also a matter of respect for others. Not everyone enjoys seeing someone else's butt hanging, as watergirl said. If I wanted to, there are many places online for that. And clubs.

lebg0211-- That kind of attire is extremely inappopriate for the college atmosphere. I'm sorry but if you're going to class dresses like that, that's very disrespectful... to the professor and to the students who have to watch you walk in dressed like a hooker. Those time of clothes need to be saved for parties and clubs.

Yeah I agree, it's too much of a distraction, especially for the men :p Girlss don't ususually dress like that at my college, but most of the people in my classes are either guys or people in their 30s or 40s.  So, I guess it depends on where you go to college at.  I would probably expect that kind of thing at a large city instituiton with lots of teenagers fresh out of high school. 

I dunno... I went to college in kentucky... in the country... and the girls still dressed like that.
