**21, in college, about 15 lbs. to lose**

Quote  |  Reply
Just wondering if there's anyone out there who wants to be calorie count buddies and motivate eachother. I've tried calorie count before but i didn't stick with it and i think it was because i didn't really have anyone here to be accountable to.

So I want to make a few friends!!

We could just make posts to report on how we're doing and check up on eachother. Maybe one post every day or two.

As I said in the post description, I'm 21 and in school. I have about 15 pounds to lose. I was thinking it would be good to find some people in a similar place as me, but I would love to hear from anyone who has advice or wants to friends and motivate me and be motivated. I just do better with accountability. :)

I'm 21 as well.. in college.. and have 15lbs to lose.. haha.. one of my big problems was drinking.. ALOT.. so now that i'm on a diet i'm not until i reach my goal.. Id love someone else to stay motivated with me!!
sweet! well... i'm a waitress at a chinese restaurant and one of my problems is eating crap like rice and soup and fortune cookies all day at work. so... tomorrow (since i'm working a double-shift) my goal is to bring good-for-you food from home to work so i don't have to eat the greasy food at work. i'll let you know how it goes.

thanks for replying to my post. hopefully talking to each othere will help us stay committed to eating better and recording what we eat.
Hey!  I'm 20 years old and in college and have 15 pounds to lose, as well!

I've lost 13 pounds so far, 5 while I have been at school... and it's definetely harder here, especially because I live in a dorm and rely on campus food!  And, of course, the drinking... I just make sure I work out 6 times a week, and if I do drink, it's once a week and I do a maintance level of calories that day and count all my drinks into that!

Hopefully I can keep in touch with you guys too because I need all the motivation!
I'm 23, in college, and I have exactly 15 pounds to lose:) It started at 30 this summer, but I officially shaved 15 off as of today. yay :)

My campus just built a new rec center and the gym is supposed to be awesome...but I'm scared to go!  I really really should....I need to make myself...Monday...I'm gonna go!  I only have 1 seminar from 2-4 so if I go in the morning I'll have plenty of time to check it out.  hm.

guess you've already gotten a few responses but i'm in a similar situation. i'm 23 and i've got about 15 pounds to lose (largely for the same reasons you cite-- college drinking. how did that happen?? i hung out with guy friends and drank and ate the way they did-- now i'm paying the price.). i just graduated and moved away from my university town and i'm trying to take advantage of the social hiatus to get back in shape. i just joined a gym and have started going everyday and trying to eat better (and lay off the red wine and beer a little bit). i don't know if you guys have had a similar experience-- but i've crash-dieted in the past and i really don't want to do that again. it's not a lasting way of losing weight, and let's face it, it's just miserable. so this time i'm trying to be patient and do it the healthy way.

hope to keep in touch and keep each other motivated! i certainly will need it!
hey i'm also 21, also in college, also have 15 more pounds to go and also a waitress...stress right?!  but i've already gotten rid of 20 pounds since june, so there's hope.  my biggest problem is also the alcohol, I'm trying to limit to once a week for a while, and a planned event, not just because, you know?  we can do this i think
Heyy! good thread..

I'm 20 years old, (21 in january - woo-hoo!) and I have, when I last checked, 12 lbs to go until my goal weight (125), YAY. I'm pretty good about sticking to my diet and working out, but I'm finding that its definitely harder to do here at school, eating with my friends all of the time...

hey hey! i'm 21, entering my senior year, and have 13 lbs to lose until i reach my goal weight! i have a really bad habit of emotional eating when i feel bad about myself (physically). let's be friends! =)
i think i'm the opposite of an emotional overeater, when I'm stressing or depressed I just don't eat.  Today was a bad day...1000 cals...but 200 came from a beer and some ice cream at work...so a REAL bad day huh?  How've you all been doing on your path?

Ahh I feel for you waitresses.. I try to stay away from food as much as possible.. I did that for a long time.. I was actually a chef as well and got my culinary degree.. but I'm going to school for business now because I have to many food issues to be around food ALLL DAYYYY. I might actually be getting a job at a fine dining restaurant here soon.. which will hopefully be harder to eat.. I'm still not happy about it.. but I need the money.Undecided

But as far as how i've been doing.. I haven't drank in one whole week as of tomorrow.. which for me is great.. especially considering I have been out with my friends this week and all weekend to the bars and only drank water.. that takes willpower.Smile

I'm also 21 and in college (hook 'em horns!) and have about 15lbs to lose. I lost 60 over the past couple of years, but I gained about 10 back in the past couple of weeks. Bummer! So I'm trying to get back on track and get rid of this belly once and for all!

I also drank a lot, but once I quit drinking it helped big time. Give it a shot!
I'm 21 and just started my senior year of college. I have 20lbs left to loose and I have lost 30 since the beginning of summer. I gained 40lbs during my freshman and sophomore years because of depression and ....... get this..... SODA. I hate coffee, i was a caffinee addict, and i'm allergic to artifical sweetners. So, I drank regular soda (around 6, 12oz glasses a DAY). Well, i moved out on my own this summer and starting buying and cooking my own food and I cut out the junk. Soda is only for special occasions now and I only drink alcohol 1-2 times a month. I feel better then ever now!

hey everyone! i'm so glad i stumbled upon this. i'm 20 so to be 21, and i have 10 pounds of depressing stress weight to lose :( i'm an emotional/stress eater unfortunately...any suggestions on how to stop??? just started this calorie count thing to see if it helps.

p.s. hang in there! i read some of the blogs and you guys are amazing! congrats!

I'm also 21, a senior in college and have closer to 20 or 25 pounds to lose, but would be really happy with 15 (or even 5!).  I eat well when I'm alone and go to the gym quite regularly, but my problem is my friends.  They want to go out and order fried food or ice cream all the time (we're talking 2 or 3 times a week).  I don't want to not hang out wiht them, but I can't afford to eat that way, both financially and weight-wise.

Anyone else find their friends are huge demotivators?

Inywening, I'm with ya about the friends.  My roommate is my best friend and she is the tiniest thing (without working at it) and eats whatever she wants whenever she wants.  Thus, bad food is always around and she offers it...  it's def. hard.  But, if I go out with her or any of my friends I just look for the healthiest thing on the menu.  If my friends go get ice cream, I will get plain vanilla or, frozen yogurt... etc.  A big group of us went to Mc Donalds at 2am the other day (I couldn't resist!) but all I got was there apple dippers and a chocolate milk... although next to their fries, it was difficult not to cheat!

Just stay motivated and make sure your friends understand your trying to eat healthy!
going out with friends is hard, but for me it's more because we all drink, and cutting out alcohol for me is difficult.  I'm a super social drinker and It's hard to say no to some of the pitcher of beer you know?  The positive side though is that I influence my friends when it comes to food choices, for example we went for pizza the other day and instead of ordering mozzerella sticks and a medium pizza I talked everyone into salads and splitting a small cheese pizza.  It's possible if you suggest better choices to your friends they might not want to be the odd man out and get something healthy too.  ps coldstone has delish sugar free vanilla!

Artifical sweeteners are bad for you. MUCH worse then sugar.

Sorrry about that, personal crusade..... Anyway.

One way you can avoid feeling left out when you and your friend go out to eat is to order a Long Island Iced Tea and sip on it all night. Depending on how it is made, it is better for you then drinking the same amount of alcohol in beer. The average calories that I saw for a long Island was around 500 calories, BUT you would have to drink around 5 12oz beers to get the same amount of alcohol. If you drank five cans of Budwiser that would come to 725 calories. I also will order something separate from my friends if they insist on getting the nasty, grease filled stuff. They usually don't mind. Most of my friends are supportive of my efforts when I tell them how great loosing weight and eating right makes me feel. (*Whisper* some have even come to me after we get back from going out and ask me for some advice) Though it really helps that my roommates are on board with eating healthily. It is nice to take turns cooking dinner.

Hope this helps some.

mmmm long islands....mmmmmmmmm

When I was drinking (I stopped for this diet) I would get Bacardi and diet.. no sugar and no carbs.. you can say what you want about artificial sweeteners but I'll stick to believing its the best choice (not for every day because all I really drink is water.. but for your best diet choice on a night out of drinking) I would also get michelob ultra IF I drink beer (rare) or michelob ultra amber.. also I believe miller lite has half the carbs that bud light does.. I still go out to the bars with all my friends.. I drink water.. it was hard to do at first but its getting easier.. ONLY until I reach my goal.
I'm sure artifical sweeteners are not bad in small amounts, BUT I'm talking about the people who can't stand water and use the sweeteners in them ALL the TIME in crap like crystal light. It is sooo bad for you. I personally can't use them at all because they give me migraines (I didn't like them before they started doing that  anyway)
