College Students -- Do you add studying/school to activity log?

Quote  |  Reply

I study a lot! At least 4 hours a day, plus the 5 hours of class. When i add this to the activity log, it says i have burned about 800 calories. I know its not through aerobic activity, but is it ecological to add? It does use a lot of energy and I feel exhausted afterward.

What do you guys think?

ahah, seriously??

how does studying burn calories? aren't you like just sitting there..?

Well... you aren't moving other than writing maybe. But you are using your brain. I wouldn't think it burned any more calories than normal. A lot of activities in the activity browser are like a flat rate - they are all the same or close to the same. And I think they are already counted in the daily burn total.

800 calories in 9 hours? thats prob like your heart beating and the other muscles in your body supporting you. i highly doubt you burn extra calories using your brain. i wish though
hmm thats a good point! you burn calories all the time ..so mayb!?!?
yeah like amydoll221 said there's a certain amount of calories burned just sitting. i imagine that calories burned during studying is the same amount. the burn meter already accounts for your "flat rate".

actually you do burn more cal when studying than just sitting watching TV... It's not a significant amount- but using those braincells helpsLaughing

I woudn't add in all of those 800 calories... it's my understanding that those 800 calories are just the normal calories your body burns doing nothing, which is included in your BMR.  So if you have a BMR of 1500, and CC says you burn 800 studying, what you're saying is that you are burning 2300 calories that day.  However, I think that those 800 calories from studying are part of those 1500 (plus obviously some calories from turning the page, writing, etc).  Hope this helps, and sorry in advance because I think I may have just confused you lol.
