College Students

Quote  |  Reply
Hello! I am starting a club for college students. It is hard going off to college and making the right food choices...I think we can support each other and talk about healthy alternatives to food choices. I am going to be a senior in college next year and I am trying to lose that weight I gained from college.

A little about me, I'm a biomedical engineer...I'm recently engaged and I love to drink (which is horrible if you are dieting)

about my weight...

I'm 5'10" medium build

started at: 172lbs

currently at: 140lbs

want to be: 140lbs <~~ made my goal!!! took ~6 months

Since College/Classes are done for summer...How did everyone do with the diet??

I'm a college student as well! :) Second-year nursing student.

I'm 5'9'', small framed.

Start weight: ~150 lbs.

Current weight: 133 lbs.

Goal weight: 128-130 lbs.

Liz :D
Looking at your stats, I'm quite similar to you.  I'm going into my fourth year of undergraduate studies, working toward getting two simultaneous degrees in 5 years: Engineering Physics, and Math.

I gained about 20 lbs in university.  I'm not that big of a drinker, but I can definitely pack 'em away when I'm in a social setting (ie, out with the engineers and pitchers of beer...).. and it's soo easy to overeat during late night homework hours; my bane is dessert-y anything.

Height: 5'9", medium/small frame, but with muscles so I don't want to get my weight too low.

Beginning weight: 165-ish lbs

Current weight: 154 lbs

Goal weight: 149 lbs (but thinking of dropping this to 145, my pre-university weight)

Thanks for starting this thread!
in the same boat as you all are.  I am starting graduate school this year, so I feel that it will be even more difficult to find time to exercise.  Here are my stats...

Started: 164 June 2005

Current: 147

Goal: 130-135

I have a friends wedding to be in on 9-9-06, and my dress is a bit tight at the moment.  Need to drop 5-7 in a month.  Any help or suggestions would be great!
I'm glad people are joining! I thought I was the only college student doing this!! Yeah, it's hard going to school with the stresses of tests and social events...it gets so depressing when the kegs are flowing (i love beer if you cant tell!!!) and you have to step back and sip on your mich ultra light! haha, this phase will pass over hopefully (i just turned 21) :)
I completely took Coca-Cola out of my diet...it was rough for a few days but I got all that bad stuff out of my system...From doing that, I cut a lot of calories out of my diet...and I'm sure a pound or two

To lose 5-7 lbs in a month, I would just count calories around 1200 if not working out...and around 1500 if you are working out...
Oh college...  I'm starting my third year in Mechanical Engineering.  I try not to drink too much, but engineers have a way of having plenty of beer around, all the time.  The all you can eat cafeteria and no place to cook was what killed me.  Luckily I have my own apartment this year, so I can make my own food! (Helps that I love to cook.)

Stat-wise:

5'9" medium frame.

Start weight: 175 lbs.

Current weight: 173.5 lbs.

Goal weight 149 lbs.
I'm a college student---I'll be a 4th year biology major this year. It is tough to be in college and maintain your weight. I have gained 50 pounds in the past 3 years (I am embarrassed to say it, but it's true). I'll lose in the summer, and gain it back plus more during the semester. That's not happening this year! I'm in a new living situation---I have my own apartment and no housemates to tempt me. I have less extracurricular activities and a great class schedule so I can work out.

I'm 5'3" medium

started this summer at: 186

currently at: 168 (I've lost my freshman year so far ;) !)

want to be: 124

Here's a drinking tip (from one just-turned-21 to another) Have a glass of water with your beer or whatever you have, and just alternate sips. No one will really notice you are drinking less, and you will learn to savor your drink! If you can stand it, try wine as well. It's heart-healthy to have a glass or two (depending on your size and gender). I'm an Italian girl, so I love it! :D

fire7651, I just looked at your profile, and you're beautiful!

Like, I don't even know if you'd look better at a lower weight! You do carry it VERY well.

I'm not a lesbian, by the way...I'm engaged as well, to a MAN lol
dracodf, I had roughly the same experience as you.  I stayed in dorms for two years, and then moved into an apartment in my third year.  Those buffet-style cafeterias are DEATH, especially when you've already paid them up front and you don't have any alternatives.  I found that having my own apartment really helped - having control over your own food is a great feeling. Good for you!

Ah, engineers and their universal love of beer.  Neat, but not that great when we're watching calories.  plankcm, I like the water idea.  Once at a bar I went as far as to get the bartender to fill up my empty beer bottle with water because my friends were giving me a rough time about not drinking enough!  It worked quite well.  I got my water, they thought I was getting hammered. =)

And what's up with the US and its 21 drinking age?? I've been drinking in Canada since I was 18, and then I had to spend a summer in Boston at the age of 20.  Weird to not be able to drink after drinking for almost 3 years! Ironically, I turn 21 on Sept 5, 4 days after I return to Canada. =)
c2cgchica, I'm going to a wedding on Oct 7, and I already bought the dress that I'm going to wear... I also need to drop about 5 lbs for it to fit properly.
I want to join too!

I'm going into my 4th year in Neuroscience and Psychology.  Tinamkz Where do you live.  I noticed you're from Canada too!

I never really weighted myself much in high school, but I was always between 115 lb and 120 lbs.  I used to dance a lot, so I could pretty much eat anything I wanted.  Since I started university I've stopped dancing and started drinking on a regular basis... about every weekend or every other weekend... It doesn't help!

I'm 5'2", with a small build.

Started at: 132 lbs

Currently at: 117 lbs

Want to be: 115 lbs... maybe less.
shakti, thanks but i really do need to lose some weight...i am a very 'hippy' type girl and im looking at my mom and i know i need to start taking care of my body...haha i dont think you are a lesbian...it's something about being taller and when i tell people how much i weigh they are like, "are you serious" but it is scary saying, i weight 167lbs...when i use to weigh in the 130's (highschool.) When i lose weight, no one can really tell...but i feel i need to be a healthier size for my heart.

yeah engineers and beer...it's a crazy thing. that water trick seems like a good idea....but i can see me being one of your friends teasing you to drink more...lol so i dont know if i could do that...i might try that new 64 cal beer...has anyone tried that??
plankcm, ohhh yes, i LOVE wine....merlot is my fav!
babycreature: I'm from Saskatchewan. Hometown is Regina, and I'm going to school in Saskatoon.  Spending the summer working at MIT in Boston, which is cool, but... I miss Canada, to be honest. =)

shakti: i just don't tell people how much I weigh. =)  Even my family doesn't know, and neither does my boyfriend.  I'm looking forward to being able to tell people without cringing though!
hiii :) i'm a college student too! i go to george mason university!

i didn't really gain weight - but i didn't lose either ... but man, those buffet style cafe's are KILLLLLER. even if i got a salad - i would load it with cheese, tons of ranch dressing, and croutons and a bunch of other bad stuff! hehe :)

I'm 5'5'' with a medium build.

I started at 163 ...

I'm now at 150 ... which still sounds scary to me

My goal for this month is 145

My final goal is 125 :)
I think the best low-cal beer I've tried so far is Amstel light...Miller light is ok, but watery. I'm more of an ale than a lager person, so I would love to find a low-cal ale.

And you're right fallinstr, those cafeterias are killer. You pay an arm and ten legs for the food, so you want to get your money's worth---and you are only hurting yourself!
oh i wanna join this too...

I'm 5'9 180 lbs...hopefully less when i weigh myself tomorrow ;)

I'm in my last year of my Business Degree in Finance...

I really havn't gained in school...i feel like i've made better eating decisions once i went away for school.  When at home for the first 2 years of school I made really bad choices.

However once I went away for school i've basically stayed at the same weight.  I am looking at losing a good 40 -50 lbs by christmas
I started at around 145 and am at 115 at the moment, at 5'6". I go to University of Waterloo!
oh me too me too....LOL

I am a senior in college in North Carolina. A Psych major who had back surgery a little over a year ago and I got all the way up to 202. LOL

Currently 180

Height: 5'4

Goal weight: 140

Good Luck you all!
woo colllege!

I'm going to be a Junior at Illinois State U, studying art education.

I'm 5'9" and am around 140 lbs right now and would like to be 130. Mostly I just want to stay healthy and binge-free. Along with working out, which may be difficult with my heavy schedule this up coming semester! Yikes.
