College Students

Quote  |  Reply
Hello! I am starting a club for college students. It is hard going off to college and making the right food choices...I think we can support each other and talk about healthy alternatives to food choices. I am going to be a senior in college next year and I am trying to lose that weight I gained from college.

A little about me, I'm a biomedical engineer...I'm recently engaged and I love to drink (which is horrible if you are dieting)

about my weight...

I'm 5'10" medium build

started at: 172lbs

currently at: 140lbs

want to be: 140lbs <~~ made my goal!!! took ~6 months

Since College/Classes are done for summer...How did everyone do with the diet??

My stats are:

I'd like to lose 5 more pounds before i head off to college on the 20th.  I've already lost 7 in the past 2 weeks so hopefully the next 5 will fall off.

So how's everyone doing? Some of us probably have been at school for atleast a week (me: 3 weeks) so we have had time to try watching our weights at college. As for me, I was good in that I didn't eat ice cream every time an organization gave it out for free (seriously several times a day for a week!), but I stayed in the cafeteria, planning to study after eating, and ended up eating the whole time instead. The exercising part I have no trouble with (I'm in cross country) but that just means I can't be eating junk. So my new challenge is..... not bingeing on the huge jar of peanutbutter I keep in my room to keep my protein up! That's me, so now you tell us how we can support you this week!
For me, going back to school is a blessing in disguise! I don't live on campus, but being in class for 5 hours a day twice a week is definitely good for controlling my snacking. I pack a couple of snacks before I leave for school, and because I'm stuck in class all day, I'm not wandering off to the pantry like I would at home! Also, I have a nice break from 12:15 till 2, so I can go to the gym at school. Huzzah!! Hopefully this will get me in gear. :)

<3- Krissy
108.5 today! :)
I start classes tomorrow. My experience will be similar to Krissy's. I get to walk to campus, though I do not live on campus. My classes also start at 9:40 am (instead of working at 8am all summer), so I will be able to get much needed sleep in order to wake up to go work out before classes. My problems hardly ever arise when I am at home or work, but mostly when I am out with friends or my parents.
The hardest thing for me is the free food. They give it out everywhere, I swear! Turning it down is tough.

I agree, but we have to get in our heads that it certainly isn't free if we gain weight from it! Yesterday was bad; I ate spoonfuls of peanutbutter...yup the peanutbutter I just said I should get rid of! So right now, I'm throwing it out! Yay!!
I haven't left for school yet.  The anticipation is killing me!!  How are you all doing off at college?
I don't know if this is hapenning to anyone else, but I'm not able to track my calories anymore.  My campus has all the nutritional facts online, but they have servings of "4 oz."  I have no idea what 4 oz. of all these random foods are!  I'm walking more, now, so maybe that will help.

Also, I can't get accurate scale measurements anymore.  To do that, I would have to wake up, go to the bathroom, walk 5 min. to the gym (without eating) and jump on the scale.  So, my weight chart's going to fluctuate more than I would like.  Especially, since I can't get to the gym until the afternoons.

Oi.
Im in my third year at Univerity of Toronto. I dont live in res but i take my lunch and its hard b/c I dont want to take too much food but when im in school i get so hungry. So i take healthy snacks like fruit but it doesnt keep me satisiafied for long. here are my stats:

Im 5'3

medium frame

starting weight: 192

current weight: 157

goal weight: 140 (ish)
Im a second year in university, studying Math and physics. my freshmen 15 was more like freshmen 30, and + some 40 more from high school I want to get rid of.

My stats:
I'm 5'6"
medium-large frame
started at: 205
currently: 193
goal: 136
I'm a first year undergrad hoping to prevent the freshman 15/get to a good level of health while i'm still young. Since i've been pretty health-conscious for a few years, i'm hoping not to counteract that by being at school.
My advisor suggested a personal fitness class to add in a few more credits, and it's been helping a lot! It's built up a lot of muscle which i'm super stoked about. I've also been trying to watch what I eat still. It can get pretty hard since it's easy just to get a bunch of junk for really cheap with a block. There's also that wanting-to-get-your-money's-worth mentality to combat, which you're all aware of! So that's basically where i'm at right now. Sorry for the wall of text! Here are my stats:

5'2 or 5'3
Medium frame
Current weight: I was 115.4 last week, but I guess my average would be 117/118 since it tends to fluctuate really easily
Goal: Flat stomach! I think my current weight is fine, but if I lost a few pounds that'd be cool too.
Hi, I'm a first year undergrad hoping to lose the high school 10 (which I already lost once this summer but put back on when I went to Europe....darnit). I'm a Business and Foreign Language major with Chinese and Japanese...here are my stats:

5'5'' small build

started at :132 lbs

currently at: 130 lbs (which I'm not sure, cause I don't have a scale!)

want to be: 122 lbs

And I hate that stupid all-you-can-eat cafeteria! Especially when I got so so sick of the food, stopped going, and just ate cereal for two days straight. Not healthy. ;P
Hi! I'm a senior English Major with a Religion Minor at a teeny-tiny private college in Kansas. I managed to stay away from the freshman 15, but then I switched schools and got married--and that definitely packed on the pounds.

My stats:
5'4, small build
started at: 145 lbs.
currently at: 140 lbs.
wish to be: 125 lbs. (pre-college, pre-marriage weight)

I work about 20 hours a week serving at Red Lobster, which is a work-out in itself, but outside of that I can't get motivated to exercise! And I love fast food and junk food, which is terrible. How do you all stay motivated?
I am in college too....third year!.....definitely put on the freshman 15

stats:

5'6...medium frame

starting weight: 154

Current Weight: 144

Goal weight: 125-130

height: 5'4-5'5

current weight: 111.4

heighest: 117

hoping to drop that remaining 11 pounds...
Count me in. I'm a third year English Literature/ Literary Journalism major, trying to lose those thirty pounds that have been haunting me since...er...forever. ;) I went to Uni in Glasgow last year, and all the walking kept me from gaining any weight. Now that I'm back home in the states though, with a car at my disposal, I have to snap back into some sort of chaotic order.

Age: 20

Height: 5'10"

Highest Weight: 185lbs

Current Weight: 166ish

Goal Weight 135lbs
Hi, I'm going to Nassau College.... studying business.

Starting Weight: 248

Current Weight:226

Goal Weight: 125

Height: 5'5

Age:22

Highest Weight: Unknown... probably like 255 or 260 maybe not that much...
Dieting in college can be really hard, I'm glad there is a thread for this :)

Starting weight: 180
