Just wondering if any university students are hanging around.  If so...introduce yourselves?!?

Answer these, and maybe more?

Erica
Indiana University, Bloomington
Junior this fall
10 pounds worth; three pounds to go to get to my pre-frosh weight
Bloomington has TONS of ethnic restaurants...they're all amazing, and well worth breaking diets
Nasty.  Especially trying to eat healthy stuff.  I did salad and yogurt every day for a month, then gave up and went on for mac and cheese and potatoes and...etc.

DISCUSS!  :)

Katy

Berklee College of Music, Boston

Summer and Fall semester left before graduation

I actually lost weight my first year, then put on about 20 this year back.

We dont really have a campus so its either shaws/whole foods or eat out.

I think from what I hear the dining halls are pretty bad here but we have mostly off campus kids.

I live off campus and never eat in the dining halls, so I'm not really sure what they're like
Name:  Laura

School:Barry University Scool of Law
Year: Going into my first
Did you gain the Freshman 15: getting my B.S. degree... yup and then some
Best food on your campus: We have a cafe on campus. That's it otherwise you eat out
How bad are your dining halls:  No dining halls at Barry (yay!!)
Drea

Indiana University- Bloomington, School of Law
3rd year... almost done!

gained... in undergrad... a lot I got preg. my first year
Bloomington has GREAT food and I have never set foot in a residence hall here

(hi to the other bloomington person)
Name:  Jen
School: SUNY Fredonia
Year: super senior (but i started a year early -in high school- so it's okay)
Did you gain the Freshman 15: first year that i was in the dorms i gained some but not much in lbs, more in my pants wouldn't fit
Best food on your campus: salads at erie dining hall are pretty good, not much else
How bad are your dining halls: pretty bad healthyness-wise, especially the 'food court' where i work - pizza, tacos, wings, fries, burgers, sandwiches on crappy bread. the dining halls are a little better but more expensive and one's re-opening this fall after a bunch of remodeling and adding on dorms and stuff.
drea - how do you like the law school?  and good job keeping out
of the res halls.  collins is the only one with decent food, and
I'm sure it isn't THAT healthy...all casseroles and whatnot.
yeah i could have lived in family housing... no way! lol....

law school is fun... if draining and suspiciously like junior highschool.

they dont have a vegtarian dining hall here? back at OSU we had a veggie hall-- called Sprouts.  Huge salad bar, bagels, all the food was veggie... was very good as far as being mostly healthy.  Also had al a carte Buckey Mart u could use your meal plan to get milk and veggies and sandwiches and such.  Hmm maybe I just miss OSU lol.

Do you use the SCRC? I havent been able to force myself to set foot in there... heard stories lol.  But I think soon the home stationary bike isnt going to cut it anymore.
phi

University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill

PhD candidate in philosophy, starting fourth year

Gained the freshman 50 about 10 years ago

On campus, Jamba Juice--tho the food OFF campus is where the good stuff's at

Never go to the dining halls
drea - Collins (10th and Woodburn, across from the big field thingy by the HPER) serves vegetarian and vegan foods regularly.  It's all home-cooked style.  I loved it, but I don't have meal points anymore.  Try it once, if not to gawk at the subculture hippie kids that live there.

phimegaphi - I almost went to UNC!  waitlisted forever, got in, and decided since I had direct admit/honors/scholarships for the business school at IU, I'd pass.  But, I did LOVE it.  I'm an appalachian girl, so the scenery was fabulous for me.  We ate dinner at some mexican restaurant in the 'downtown' area that was good...I'm sure the rest of offcampus is great, too!
this town is awesome. i'm not looking forward to when i have to leave.
i'm not sure which mexican resturant you went to...there's a ton of
them. but the food, people, atmosphere, and music scene all combine to
make this place really amazing, quaint, and unique. I've heard indiana
has many of these things too, so it sounds like you made a tough but
good choice.
i got into to UNC for law school..and turned it down for the small but meaningful scholarship at IU ( i mean seriously, OSU for almost free, IU for instate, or UNC for the full 30 grand a year, what would you do???)  but i almost regret it.

raleigh/durahm is one of the best places to be in the states.  i have family down there and absolutely love it.

phi, i am so jealous.  and teach me to run and drink too! i have a friend who does something called a "hash" where they run and then drink at each checkpoint.  have you heard of that? to me, it sounds like the best way to make me run LOL.  tho my mom says id end up dead of running into a tree LOL.
oh yes!! the group you're talking about is officially called hash house harriers.

their apt and ingenius motto: "drinkers with a running problem."

if you have an HHH group around where you live, get involved. they are a hilarious bunch and will show you one hell of a good time. they are also usually really supportive about running, meaning that if you're just starting out, they're a good group to show you how to get on a running training program without being too flippin serious about it. and they would certainly be the crew to teach you how to run and drink! also, tell your mom to rest easy: they usually save the heavy drinker for AFTER the run. usually. :)
here's a link to some info on the HHH. like i said, super fun bunch.
ty ur awesome i never thought it was something more than a bloomington/small town thing... god if i could make it more than around the block... im there.  i bet my friend would take me lol

Name: Elizabeth
School: The University of King's College, Halifax NS
Year: Just finished first year
Did you gain the Freshman 15: I gained the Freshman 7 and lost one heck of a lot of muscle tone.
Best food on your campus: Bagel bar! Oh, multigrain bagels...so delicious.
How bad are your dining halls: The dining hall (we have a student body of 1100 with an average of 250 in residence, so the single dining hall is quite small) was AWFUL. Everything, even the vegetarian food, was loaded with oil and sugar. There was a salad bar, albeit with limited choices, but it's impossible to eat salad three meals a day, every day. There was also a bagel bar and "sandwich station," which was sketchy-looking lunchmeats and some bread. I can't tell you how glad I am to be living off-campus this coming year.

By the end of first year, I was so sick of the bland, tasteless, oily food that I just gave up and basically ate salad and french fries for a month. (Mmm, healthy.) Because the school's so small, the dining hall didn't get a lot of funding, so we basically ate pasta in an oily or creamy sauce at least once a day, sometimes with some tired-looking veggies thrown in. Halifax is renowned for the donair (if you don't know what donair sauce is, you don't want to know) and garlic fingers, which consist of pizza crust, a LOT of garlic, and about a pound of cheese, so late-night study snacks weren't exactly healthy. Oh, well. It was fun while it lasted!
elmfraser -

Our dining hall has a Sbarro's pizza in it, which translated into baked ziti for dinner about three times a week.  Other options at dining halls around campus are Panda Express, Charlies (?) Chicken 'n Sauce, Taco John's, Pizza Hut, McDonald's, Chik-fil-a...

Choosing between fast food chains or salad everyday was...not good.  No wonder this country is so fat.
Name:  Rachael
School: University of Melbourne, Australia
Year:1
Did you gain the Freshman 15: Sadly, yes.
Best food on your campus: The Plush Fish makes delicious sushi.
How bad are your dining halls: I don't eat in dining halls since I live at home. We have heaps of fast food places on campus and it's very hard to resist!

It seems like this is a pretty common experience. I think the worst thing is that it's so cheap - there's a supermarket on campus, and another one at my subway station, and the chocolates are so very cheap. But I guess that's why I'm here!
