COLLEGE STUDENTS--thinking about FINALS and thought would be great to CONNECT w/similar others--what COLLEGE do you go to??

Quote  |  Reply

Hey everyone...well it's finals season...well at least for me it is. i was wondering what school other students go to and how they handle balancing their weight goals with the stresses of college life. I am a graduating senior...woot woot!! So exciting!! I go to UCLA and will be going to grad school in the Fall...not as exciting.

As for sticking to my weight goals...well right now my goal is to gain a few pounds but even if your gain is to lose, this can be tricky during finals. I find it useful to plan what I'll eat the night before and enter it into my log, that way i don't have to think about it when meal time comes. The same would go for someone trying to lose. I also find that packing my snacks ahead of time prevents me from not having something healthy to fuel my body when I'm studying in the library or something.

What about the rest of you...? Oh, and to distract myself and procrastinate, I check CC about once every 20-30 mins, really counterproductive I know...Laughing

I'm actually a grad student (and TA) at UCLA.  The academic life is tough on those of us interested in good nutrition and finals just seems like some sort of conspiracy to prevent young people from eating right and sleeping well!

I try to bring portable snacks with me, but inevitably forget when I'm rushing to catch the bus, so I depend on knowing all the places on campus where I can quickly pick up a banana or some almonds between classes, sections, meetings, office hours, etc.

Good luck on finals week -- spring break is just around the corner!!!

I go to Florida International University in Miami.  Ive got two years left.  Ive been living at home and commuting so far, but im pretty sure next fall im going to be living on campus.   I dont know what im going to do about losing weight.  Im hoping to have lost some more weight before next fall, but i'll still have a lot to lose once i get there.   since the room and board fees include a meal plan, im probably going to have to figure out how to find some healthy-ish on campus foods.  i'll probably keeps some healthy snacks around my room.   Theres also a gym on campus which im pretty sure is free to students so i'll have that available to me at all times.   Im also hoping that i'll be busier with extracurriculars or something to help keep my mind off of food.  I hope it works out.

edit:  chrissy, i saw on your profile that you were born in 1988 (me too).  How are you already graduating from college?  Did you start early or something?

yay finals!!! NOT! Cry

I go to school at UCSD and I have about 2 more quarters left for graduation. I still don't know what I'll be doing once I graduate, but we'll see where life takes me. Smile

Actually, I do exactly what you do; plan my meals out beforehand to make sure I don't go over my allocated calories. This website is extremely helpful especially during these stressful times. I still have time to go to the gym (30 mins min) at my apartment complex.

it seems that exercise really takes a back seat during finals. i don't do much because i'm trying to gain but yesterday i almost didn't even see sunlight. it's terrible. the only reason i left the table where i was studying was to eat, use the restroom, and eventually to go to the grocery store. i'm kinda nervous to go "back home" because my eating won't be the same and I feel like I always move away from my goal during breaks. anyone else feel the same?

HEY! So I go to the University of Colorado, in Boulder, CO... and well, we don't have finals quite yet (1st week in May to be exact)... but it is the week BEFORE spring break when a lot of things are due... but I have adopted a new motto in which I just relax! I used to (and still do at time) stress out SUPER easy, so my new thing is to take a few deep breaths and prioritize my time so that stress is not inevitable! (which mean, NO procrastination!)

In terms of sticking to my work out/healthy eating plan... honestly, the whole lifestyle is so ingrained into my brain that the thought of not living the way I do, sounds really odd! Not going to the gym every morning before my day starts is like not brushing my teeth in the morning!! It has to be done or I feel funny for the rest of the day (like somethings missing).

In Boulder there are loads of healthy grocery stores that suit all my healthy eating needs which is nice and now that I have a car, I really have tons of access to all the store! (which does a NUMBER on my wallet! ha ha! - but I think healthy eating is well worth it!)

Oh and I am just like you, CC distracts me HARD CORE - but I love it! I love meeting new people with the same mind-set as me, to live healthy!!!

PS: I always wanted to go to UCLA because I am studying broadcast journalism and want to go into Celebrity Journalism! I really want to be the female Ryan Seacrest!!! ha ha! Oh and I plan on it, so he better watch it! lol

I go to art school and my final is pretty much two photography shows, one opening April 3 for a week and another opening in May. I'm only stressed about picking the right photos to hang and the framing options. Oh, and actually delivering my deposit to the girl in charge which isn't going very well....I try to get my workouts in because I need them to clear my head constantly. I'm terrified about graduating in May more than  my shows coming up. =\ Plus my friend is getting married the week before I graduate. Eep!!!

UCLA!

I am actually putting off writing 2 papers that are due Friday by checking CC. Looking forward to Spring Break, spending it with my boyfriend's family in MI.

Not looking forward to Spring quarter :(

YAY...another bruin!! how exciting? anyone else going through finals? our breaks don't line up with anyone's since we're on the quarter system it kinda sucks.

I am graduating Eastern Washington Universityin June, and yes every time finals comes around I freak. I usually don't workout as much and try to make up for it when it is all over. One strange thing that happens to me is my hip will start hurting, this has happened three times when finals were around. Once i realize i am just too stressed and try to relax it eases.

I try to eat clean all the time, but not doing to well with losing weight, and i always thought when i got to college it wouldn't be a problem because i would have control. Yeah right.

Hi~I go to Stony Brook University in Long Island, NY (representing SUNY schools! lol).  I tend to binge during finals and it really sucks.  I also overeat when I have a deadline project from my sorority coming up.

Eating clean is so hard on campus, especially when they offer so many icky (& pretty delicious) greasy fried foods.  The healthiest things you're able to really find are things like soup, salad, and sushi~but honestly, soup is sodium filled, sushi grosses me out and come on, you can only eat so much salad :(.

I usually workout and Pilates (since my school offers classes for free) but for the past two weeks I've really fallen off the wagon because of overeating due to some anxiety I was feeling because of my birthday.  I've gain 8lbs (yuck)...so instead of being 10lbs away from my goal I'm back to 18....SUCKS.

PS: It's SOOOOOOOO not okay to have your birthday cake and eat it too.
