Colonic/Hydrotherapy NOT FOR WEIGHT LOSS
Ok, just to reiterate I'm not asking about colon cleansing as a way to lose weight. What I am asking is has anyone ever had they're colon cleansed through the method where they stick the tube up your anus and flush it out with water? I'm not referring to the pills or a just an enima.
The reason I ask is because I don't have regular bowel movements and when I do they are not similar to "healthy" bowel movements. I sometimes feel full of crap literally. Now before anyone goes on a fiber revolution, I know about fiber and how it makes you regular and so on and so forth. But I specifially want to know about colonics ESPECIALLY from someone who's had one before.
removed link, LOL I guess they thought I was tryin to advertise *shrugs* I need to read the fine print on this whole posting thing :-)
Hi Amayou,
I'm in the same boat as you because of meds I take... I have been taking Pedlite (do not confuse with Pedialite!!)and it helps a lot... It clenses the h*** out of you if you take a full litre and taking 1 cup a day afterwards helps keep things going. I think you'd get the same results as with a Colon cleanse. You can purchase Pedlite at your Pharmacy...
I was also going to get a Colon cleanse, but I have decided to wait. I'm looking forward to reading the answers you get!
I know you've said about fibre, but, please, before you consider a cleanse look at your fibre intake. The RDA for women is a minimum of 25g a day. You need to make sure you're getting enough soluble and insoluble fibre - Insoluble (the fibre that forms bulk and regulates acidity and PH in the gut) and soluble (the fibre that helps regulate blood sugar and cholesterol).
Insoluble fibre examples:
-- Whole-wheat pastas, breads, etc
-- Quinoa
-- Brown rice
-- Bran products
-- Fruit and vegetable skins, such as potato skins, tomato skins, plum/prune skins, apple skins, pear skins
-- Nuts and seeds, particularly flax, almonds, brazil nuts and walnuts
Soluble fibre examples:
-- Oats
-- Rye
-- Barley
-- Potatoes of all varieties
-- Psyillium husks
-- Legumes and pulses, especially lentils, garbanzo beans (chickpeas), kidney beans, pinto beans and soybeans
And pretty much all fruits and vegetables. Particularly raspberries, plums, bananas, sweetcorn, prunes, apples, pears, blackberries, broccoli, cauliflower, brussels, asparagus, artichokes and dried fruit. Again, never introduce lots more fibre without drinking enough water to compensate. There is a more detailed list of fibre sources here for future reference.
Before you go for the cleanse, PLEASE consider sorting your fibre out first!
Dangers of Colon Cleansing
My uncle is a proctologist, and I recently read an article he'd published on people who can't seem to poop no matter how much fibre and exercise they get. He says there's one particular category of patients that nothing works for, and they tend to be young women, who feel uncomfortable about their bodies or growing up because of some kind of bad experience (not saying this is you, just saying what I read).
Living on laxatives as a regular thing is not a good idea, and neither is colonic irrigation: it flushes out all the good bacteria that you need in your gut, and doesn't fix the underlying problem. So what he does is basically to teach these patients to hear their bodies again. He inserts a type of baloon in their gut, and then inflates it until they can feel it. They learn to feel it with less and less inflation, and learn to know when they need to go. He also gives them a localised muscle relaxant so they come to recognise the feeling of relaxation needed to go. Once they can hear what their bodies are saying again, the constipation just goes away.
