I have a Colonoscopy coming up this Monday and a bit worried

Quote  |  Reply

I'm not worried so much about the actual procedure or about the clear liquid diet for a day but what I am concerned about is when I don't eat for a short period of time I get a headache right away that sometimes turns into a migraine.

I currently have a pinched nerve in my neck for 3 days now that has not gotten better (from sleeping wrong) and i'm afraid if I get a headache it will easily turn into a migraine because I already have neck, shoulder and pain in the nerve leading up to my head.

I am a little afraid of what they may find in there but better to know and get treated then not to know.

I almost cancelled the procedure just until my neck feels better but i'm going to try and go ahead with it.  I'm not looking forward to chocking down that drink or having diarreah either.

I wish you luck with your procedure.  Have you made the Dr aware of the pinched nerve?  He/she may wish to reschedule.

I would also mention it to the Doctor prior...you will be under a local so for some folks you wont even remember it and some say they do...but generally it should counter (I would think) the migraine...I know for me I was OUT within seconds...BTW if your doctor didnt give you some tricks to make the day prior better let me know...there are some definite better ways to doing it that makes things bareable (ha ha)

I had mine done last year - the prep was far worse than the procedure!  But I was sedated and never knew what was going on.  No problems with recovery.  It may be an uncomfortable test but worth it.  Good luck.

Thats exactly what mine was like...the prep (drinking the 5 gal jug of stuff in so many hours)...was the hardest part.

Typically colonoscopy involves getting a sedative caled Versed (related to valium, only shorter acting) and a pain medication, often Demerol.  Demerol is also used to break migraines in emergency situations, so by the time the procedure starts, your headache should be gone.  If you have true  migraines (i.e. have been diagnosed with them) then maybe your primary doc can give you a prescription for imitrex nasal spray or injection (if your not squeamish about giving yourself a shot).  If your headaches are due to neck strain, you should follow up with your primary doc, but should be ok to do the procedure.

You need to use your common sense here.  If you are feeling under the weather, then call your Primary doctor and tell him what is going on and if you should cancel the procedure or call the doctor who is doing it.  That is the absolute best advice that should be given. People here are giving you their experience and personal history but everyone is different and ONLY your PHYSICIANS know you and how imperative it is for you to have the procedure without delay.

Take care and Good Luck .  Best wishes.  God Bless.

Thanks heavenly...

I did end up cancelling the procedure and haven't reschedualed as of yet as now I have a cold but will when i'm better.

Sorry it took me so long to respond. There is something wrong with me not getting mail notifications that there is a new post and I have notified the technical support here on EP.

Thanks.
