Columnist: Ode To Obama - racist, bad taste or just unfunny?

A Tennessee elementary principal who does a Sunday humor column came up with one this past weekend thats getting some online buzz.

Do you think its racist, bad taste or just unfunny?

A little bit of all three.

I hadnt considered that but I agree.  I empathized with the locals who replied that this reinforced stereotypes about them as southerners.  Found it weird in the apology that he was one to push the envelope (and not in a clever way) considering his fulltime job.

And also factually incorrect. "Ebony and Ivory" was Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder, not Michael Jackson. (He did sing "Say, say, say" with Michael Jackson though.)

The man is a pathetic hack.

For starters, it's badly written.

Next, there's nothing in the article that has any value.

Last, I don't know who hired him, but I could do a much better job... and I could use a job.

My opinion? Like the others stated, all three descriptions apply.

Racist, in bad taste, not funny, and IGNORANT.  I'm glad the responses pointed out why it's objectionable.  Is he really an educator?  Yeesh.

I agree all three, and I would throw in "tired and overdone."  This person has been living under a rock if he thinks comparisons between the Jeffersons and the Obamas is an original thought.

I can't believe this retard is an elementary school principle. Wow.

 

I'd say it's extremely racist, definitely not funny, and in very bad taste.

Bashing your local politian because his name isn't white enough, or he doesn't abuse english enough to be Southern or you're jealous because he's a doctor and probably a respected member of his community and all you're capable of doing is spouting rubbish comperable in quality to a 10th grade essay in the paper, does not make you the bigger/better person.  Voting for someone because their wife is hot is moronic.

"Woooh, I'm white you're not!!!"  Was all I got out of that.  I can't believe the paper ran that, not because it's offensive (freedom of speach, whatever...), but because it's poorly written, lacks a point and makes the author look like a jackass.

I've been reading more comparisons between the Huxtables and the Obamas, including comments by Bill Cosby himself. But at the end of it all The Jeffersons was a funnier show.

This column, however, wasn't particularly funny. It relied a bit on tired racial stereotypes Calling the White House a "pimp pad", hanging out with P.Diddy (cuz, you know, all black people LURVE rap. Even guys in their 40's.)

Cosby, at the risk of getting jumped upon, used to be really racist himself.  Only recently did he come out and say he was over that.  I respect him a lot for that.

I don't really get the song.  They said under 30's probably wouldn't... yeah, but I can see how it could be racist.  Not cool... insult him 'cause you hate his policies, not his race.

I think he was just trying to be funny, he failed.
