Combining different elements...

Quote  |  Reply
There was this theory going on a while ago that you shouldnt combine carbs and protein in one meal. So, either chicken with salad, or potatoes/ pasta with veggies. No chicken with potatoes for example.

Is there a reason for this? I mean, as long as you ate it healthy(no fried chicken, boiled potatoes), and keep the calories down, how can combining the two be a problem?

Or was it just talk....?

Sounds like just another wacky theory to me.

Vegetables are carbs :) Also I would assume eating protein with fast burning carbs is actually as useful more than as eating them with other carbs. Skinless potatoes are quite high GI... Eating them with chicken, etc, would presumably make the blood sugar spike less.

Feel free to correct me, anyone, but I really can't see much benefit to separating the two. Balance is much more effective at giving your body what it needs and making you feel full than just having one 'type' of food as well.
Carbs are necessary for your muscles to absorb the protein.
Separating them might help you lose weight in the short term, but not in a good way.
I once did that food combinig plan.  It was in "Fit for Life."  It was based on how the digetive track breaks down foods, and how certain combinations are more easy for the body to handle.  I can tell you that while I was following that diet, I never felt better in my life!  But it is a very hard diet to stick to, so I would not recommend it.  I follow a much more moderate plan now.
