The jelly or the peanut butter? Smile

I just got home from my walk to the super market. I didnt have much to eat today, so I thought I'd make a one slice of bread PBJ. I wondered what people spread first, the jelly or PB/

TEAM JELLY

You always spread the peanut butter first, of course!!

If you spread the jam first, it'll move around because it sticks to the peanut butter on the knife and make a big jam blob in the middle. The peanut butter needs a rough surface (like the bread) to stick to. Tongue out

I prefer open-face sandwiches and I always spread the nut butter first. Sophiecore, how do you get the pb to stick to the jelly?

hahaha, I don't know. I just like how it all mixes together. Opposed to having PB first and then a layer of Jelly. so I big mix of both is how I like it! I also like the open face sandwiches. I can enjoy the goodness of PBJ more.

rookie! ;)

when my son (now 16) was little he would refuse to eat PBJ unless I put the PB on one slice and the Jelly on the other. If I put them together he said he didn't like it. (yes he was a unique kid, still is).  Even if he didnt' see me make it, he could tell, because of the way they were squished together.

Personally I'm team PB, otherwise its a mess. The jelly sits nice on the pb and the pb moistens the bread (usually toast for me) a little.

Always use jelly (jam) first on one slice, then wipe the knife clean on the other slice of bread before you put the peanut butter on the second slice.

duh

This.  Maximum efficiency of effort, and ensures equal distribution of PB and J in every bite!

For the PBJ Tao master chef there is no other way.

I don't like your false dichotomy.  Nutella comes first!

It's for serious the other way around, that's what you have to do.  If you put the jelly on first, you risk some getting in the peanut butter jar.  And if you're like me, you don't use jelly and instead use honey and freak out when you see weird purple chunks in your peanut butter because your roommate is a moron and spreads the jelly first.  If you spread the peanut butter first, it sticks to the knife, hence not getting all clumpy and gross in the jelly jar.

You never ever use the peanut butter knife for anything else.  You use one knife for the jam, one for the honey and one for the peanut butter.  Unless you are 100% sure that the anyone that is going to use the jam or honey is NOT allergic to peanut butter.

That said, peanut butter on one side, jam on the other.
If it is peanut butter and honey I mix it together in a bowl and use it as a spread.

However, if your only concern is the construction of a PBJ, you can just use one jar for both.

The most important part is putting about 200g on the knife then balance that over to your mouth and devour it while deciding how to proceed with the sammich

Only PB... I don't do jelly on plain bread.  Blech.  (Yes, I know I'm weird)
