Comfortable Undies - The Big Question

Quote  |  Reply
Some underwear are comfortable, some aren't.   The other day I bought some boyshorts at Old Navy and they were the most horribly uncomfortable things ever.  I think they may have been too big and that was part of the problem, but they just rode up constantly.  I threw them out.

I tried hipster style underwear instead and they are so damn comfortable!  the larger sides don't dig into my hips and they actually stay in place!  Now if I can only find a comfortable thong....

What kinds of underwear/panties/knickers do you find comfortable?

  • Boyshorts
  • Bikini
  • G-String Thong
  • Tanga Thong
  • Hipster
  • High Rise Brief
Of course, not forgetting the wonderful men on the forum:

  • Loose Boxers
  • Tapered Boxers
  • Tighty Whities (briefs)
  • Bikini Brief
  • Thong
For both sexes, what are your favourite fabrics?

  • Plain Cotton
  • Stretchy Cotton
  • Polyester Blend
  • Microfibre
  • Silk
What was the most uncomfortable underwear you owned and why?  Do you still wear them?

I knit my own underwear and bras with a 98% cotton, 2% elastic yarn. They are a little longer in the leg then boyshorts. Pretty much like spandex exercise shorts. Very loose and comfortable. Easy to wash. Quick to dry. I also have some wool versions with cotton linning. Very similiar in look to this: http://www.blair.com/prodimg/image8/w08992f.j pg

Handknit lingerie patterns:

For the last I don't know how many years, I have been wearing white cotton briefs.  They covered everything up!!  Now that I'm downsizing, I downsized the undies too -- hipsters are great!  Now I have all these great colors and patterns.  Traded in the plain white bras for ones with more color and lace too.  I actually enjoy shopping for underwear now.
i am a high leg brief gal. I love victoria secrets cottons cause they have so many fun colors. I also found these hanes that look like boy brief but are cut for a woman, they are fun

I only where the string when absolutly necessary.  i read an article talking about how funky they are, the description of them as a " like a tree saw, slowly carrying germs from the rear forward" pretty much funked me out, because it is true

Bikini in soft stretchy cotton. Victorias Secret is the best (for me at least) The one thing I cant stand is when there is thick elastic on underwear that cuts into your skin and makes you look fat and feel uncomfortable. And your fat sides/stomach bulges out over the top of the elastic.  Thats why I like a thin elastic or lace edge.

Bonds hipster briefs. They own my soul. www.bonds.com.au ;)
Maybe it's how my weight is distributed (big butt) but my experiment with boyshorts has not been pleasant.  Big ride-up factor.  Won't buy again.

I am a fan of the cheeky style and full and high briefs.  I owned one  thong as a babydoll nightwear set and the strap was too long!  So small hands, small cleft?  ;)

*ponders  for a moment about the size of a man's feet having a relationship to something else analogy* ::blush, snicker::

I once asked a nurse in a class we shared how they knew what size Foley catheter a person was.  I mean, do you know your size?  Apparently, that is pretty standard amongst adults.  With all the variety of shape and sizes, I would never guessed it.
ordinary, plain jane, 100% cotton briefs.  Hanes makes good ones.  I don't sacrifice comfort for looks - ever.  If your underwear is uncomfortable then you won't be at your best.  Same goes for shoes that don't fit.

Granny briefs were my favorites for the past year or so but after losing 20 lbs. I am back to my high rise brief. I like 95% cotton with 5% stretch, narrow elastics at legs and waist. Prefer black just because I prefer black. Lace isnt comfortable but for those special evenings there are one or two hiding in the back of the drawer. I have a few thongs and I wear them when they are needed. But plus size thongs are not just a longer piece of elastic and its hard to find a manufacturer that realizes this.

I love Hubby in thongs, he has a GREAT bum. He likes cotton midi brief for everyday comfort
Good ole boring cotton granny panties.
Hanes Boxer Briefs... I just love them.
i liek target's bikini cuts... but not string bikini! just regular bikini.
cotton thongs. all the way. I hate everything else! Those are the only ones that I find don't ride up (As hard as that may be to believe)

My most uncomfortable pair of undies I own are a pair of stretchy bikini style that I dont think Ive ever worn for more than 5 minutes... why dont I throw em out? who knows? I dont like throwing out things in good shape, but I cant exactly give them away to anyone. lol
I like hipster undies and boyshorts. I think they're really cute. I don't usually wear thongs unless I'm dating someone haha. I used to only wear them but kind of grew out of that. And sometimes commando is just as good. haha
best.  underwear.  EVER.

hanes her way perfect panty

(and i hate the word panty)

they have bikini, brief, boy short, hi-cut...  all styles.  i like the bikini & modern brief (which is somewhere in between the bikini & brief).

get 'em at target.

I hate the word panty too, Kirby. It make me feel dirty. Panty!

The new Hanes soft stretch panties in ultra-low hipster cut. They don't stretch out or move around during a workout. Plus, they actually make a small enough size to fit me. I used to bust out the Mary-Kate and Ashley's from the little girls dept!!!
Cotten Bikini and Thongs for me! And the sexy lacey ones for the  "Hot Diva" days! HELLO!  =)
This is a great thread for Erik and Igor....

if they ever have a convention/meetup and have to give a speech to hundreds of us, they'll be able to imagine us in our correct underwear! LOL

:)
I hate the word panty too... I used to hate the word purse but I eventually got used to that one...

I love boycut and hipster for the no bunch, no ride factor... and if I'm wearing a skirt or slim pants then I wear a g-string without fail... no matter how put together your outfit is, if you have panty-line, it ruins the whole deal! In my opinion...

Claire, I'm one of those gals who wears thing until they're comfortable, gosh darnit! lol ;) Of course, the boyfriend doesn't mind watching me parade around in 4 inch heels in my underwear or less just to break them in. :D
Skirts and thongs, Jayd? I am glad I am not the only one!!!
