I think you're undereating.

Beyond that you're 13 years old and should NOT be worrying about this at all.

I'm sorry, but I don't think you should be restricting your calories at 13. During these years you can severely stunt your growth (of your height, of your organs, of your brain) by dieting. I'm not sure how many calories your day adds up to so you may not be under eating TOO much. I really can't say without a number.

But if you want to improve your image, I think it would be better for you to focus on exercise. Get PLENTY of exercise, eat fruits and vegetables, and limit junk food...and eat as much healthy food as your body needs.

The actual mix of different types of foods looks great to me. A snack in between lunch and dinner would be even better though..I know I always get hungry between lunch and dinner.

You're underweight and under eating. Not cool. -_-;

you're 13! i didn't know what a calorie was until I was like 17!! please just try to eat lots of healthy foods and some treats and don't become obsessive.  It can lead to eating disorders and problems with your growth too!

Ya Ya Ya - you're 13 - but it is good to be aware about nutrition no matter HOW OLD you are - just as long as you're not trying to lose weight, and simply asking for advice on how to clean up your diet, then I will help you out!

Your breakfast sounds alright but... I bet that oatmeal was quakers and full of sugar & your chocolate milk was full of sugar as well --- instead MAYBE you should buy unsweetened oatmeal and flavor it yourself with either frozen berries & cinnamon or splenda sweetened pancake syrup and as for a drink... Some green, white or black tea or some water or some coffee (if you can stomach it)

You need more PROTEIN at lunch and that casear dressing is FULL OF artery clogging fat! Yes, I know it is "delicious" but maybe you should try using olive oil/vinegar instead because it is a lot healthier - also those salads are FULL of cheese & crutons - you should pick on or the other for sure - and put grilled chicken on top. And please - drink water - NO VITAMIN WATER it is just sugar water!!!

I sure hope your spaghetti was WHOLE WHEAT and your meat balls were extra lean beef or turkey - The garlic bread is no good (make it whole wheat next time too) and once again - that casear salad is LOADED with fat!

You're diet needs a little work, but it is not too terrible... now I am NOT advocating you to lose weight, I am simply giving you advice on how to "clean up" your eating to live a healthier life!

Good god on the walking too - exercise is another amazing thing you can do for your body!

It's good to start eating healthy when you are young, I wish I would have started younger. Seriously, you are just 13 and WAY TOO YOUNG to be worrying about this. Just start eating healthy and exercise! Just dont over do it, you are not finished growing yet, you may want to talk to your doctor about doing certain things. If you will stay away from sugars & carbs, you will be okay!!!

thanks

Pats to you, giasbash! Those were all great suggestions, and I agree with you; I'd be happy to help her improve her diet... as long as she's not trying to lose weight or develop an eating disorder.

Squeaky, I'd DEFINATLEY stay away from the chocolate milk and ceasar dressing. Both are loaded with sugars and fats that your body DOES NOT NEED. I know you'll hear that you're growing and need fats, but not that kind. Instead, replace the milk with some light unflavored soymilk or low-sodium V8 juice. As for the dressing, use olive oil or balsamic vinegar - they both taste better and are actually good for you too! Also, stay FAR away from any starchy items that are not WHOLE GRAIN. That means the pasta and garlic bread too.

Here's a sample of what I had today; I know it might seem like a big difference from what you might be used to, but I thought it could help you see what (and how much) a fellow growing teen needs. I'm thirteen too, by the way.

Breakfast - Oatmeal (flax, wheat germ, bran, cinnamon), strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, egg white omlette with tomatoes and mushrooms, sprouted-grain toast with almond butter.

Snack - Homemade pumpkin muffin, natural peanut butter, raisins, baby carrots, and a mixture of 1/4 cup nonfat Greek yogurt and 1/4 cup of nonfat ricotta cheese with vanilla whey powder.

Lunch - Steamed broccoli, green beans, peas, pinto beans, an apple, and an organic Amy's Tofu Scramble pocket.

Snack - Naked Juice 100% juice smoothie; Green Machine.

Snack - Whole-wheat pita pocket, natural peanut butter, low-sodium V8 juice, nonfat plain yogurt, almonds.

Dinner (ordered in from a local place, Mmm) - SUPER thin crust wheat pizza (no cheese, extra sauce, tomatoes, garlic, and fresh basil), steamed broccoli and green beans, romaine lettuce and white carrots (look em' up!).

You are underweight.  Your BMI is 18.9 and UNHEALTHY!  Watching the types of food you eat is a great idea, but you have to eat enough healthy food to provide your body with all the nutrients it needs to grow and maintain itself.  Stay away from junk; eat good unprocessed food (plenty of fruits and vegetables and lean protein).

You're only 13.  You won't realize just how young that is until you're worrying about your own 13-year-old.  If you want to make sure your diet is healthy, talk to a nutritionist or do research on the internet, not diet websites out to promote their own weight loss products.  Go to websites like the the USDA which outline the types of food and exercises that contribute to a healthy lifestyle, which includes avoiding not only unhealthy foods, but also smoking, drinking, drugs and all the other things that can adversely impact your future.

Thanks for all the tips!

Im in recovery from anorexia and I admit I still dont eat as healthy as I should, but I just thought Id add something about the milk...I buy a kind thats make by Hood called Calorie Countdown and it still has fat, but hardly any sugar at all.  It does have splenda, so not sure how you feel about that, but I like it.
