COMMITTED LOSERS [Group Open Again!]

Quote  |  Reply

Hi guys!  I'm baaaack!  Basically spent about 6 months UNDOING all of the weightloss you all helped me with last year and am now at a whopping 148 lbs, 8 lbs more than what I started with last year.  I feel disgusting and totally ashamed.  Time to get back on track.  Hope to be down to 130 by the end of the summer.  Anyone new want to join me for weekly weigh-ins and daily motivation?  Anyone still around from last summer?

[OP from last summer: Well, I've been on CC for about a month now and have gone from 140 to 136.6.  I am female, 28 yrs old, and about 5'3.  My goal weight is 115.  I expected to lose more than 3.4 lbs by now, but I also expected that I'd be much better at staying under my daily calorie limit (1200-1400).  In any case, I'm realizing that I do a much better job of disciplining myself when I am able to regularly check-in with people who care.  I've been doing weekly weigh-ins in a couple of CC forum groups, but no one seems to want to offer support and motivation on any other day than weigh-in day!  Everyone checks in about once a week and that's it.  I need an active forum that I can turn to every day for inspiration.  I think it would be best to limit such a group to about 15 really committed members with similar stats and goals.  I'm looking for people who can check in and post regularly, people who turn to this group instead of binging, people who will share their weaknesses, rants, raves, progresses, and plateaus as often as possible.

I'm proposing that we weigh-in on FRIDAYS and that we keep "weighing-in" metaphorically every other day of the week.  Who's with me?]

On hot summer days, iced tea with lots of lemon juice is such a wonderful treat. I sweeten mine with splenda, so that knocks off a good portion of the calories. I know that splenda isn't that great for me but eh, one step at a time. I've had 4 huge glasses of iced tea today so at least I'm getting plenty of liquids in me. I've been struggling really badly to get enough water so if tea is my way of getting it I figure I'll drink as much as I want. At 25 calories per glass I don't have much to worry about.

Doing surprisingly well with my eating today. Had a grilled hamburger on a lower-cal bun with some baked fries, some fruit, and some pasta with homemade cheese sauce and tons of broccoli and cauliflower. I'm at 970 cals right now with my goal for today being between 1200-1300. I feel like I still have enough for another meal!

ladyfirelyght: You dinner sounds yummy! oooh baked fries! Oh how I long for them!

For everyone else: I have a question! When its TTOM (for those that get it) about how many lbs do you tend to gain?

My last weigh in was Sat at 146.2 in the afternoon and this evening i was finally able to get my scale and hopped on and it said 148.6. I am on TTOM so i KNEW it would be higher but secretly prayed it wouldnt!

kellymcfarling: Normally during TTOM I gain anywhere from 3-5 pounds. Some people can even gain up to 10 pounds...crazy eh? That would suck.

I go up 6-8 pounds a week before TTOM and it takes four or five days to come back down.

Ladyfirelyght: have you tried the teas by Republic of Tea? They have lots of yummy flavors that don't have to add any sweetener to (splenda is hard on the body in a lot of ways lol). My favorite is their cranberry/blood orange. It is wonderful in the hot summer, and it's a fair trade company!

marciamankin: Unfortunately for me, black tea is about as adventurous as I get, lol. I occasionally drink this black tea that has cranberry and pomegranate but most of the time I can't stand anything but black. I know Splenda isn't good for you, but considering that the tea is the only place I'm consuming it, I don't think it's going to do any real damage. I try to limit my intake. In fact, I'm trying to completely wean myself off it. I'm hoping within the next week, I can completely wean myself from it. Adding my regular amount and every glass adding a little bit less until poof! No more!

That's the plan, anyway hahaha

Hi!  I'm Susan, 32 years old, 5'4 and weighed 172 lb this morning.  The goal CC set for me is to get down to 131 but, realistically, I'd be thrilled to get down to 140 again (what I weighed back in undergrad when I was swimming 6 days a week).  I'm not sure my body will let me any lower than that - though I imagine I'll try to convince it!  :-)

My main goal this summer is to train myself into better habits.  I put on about 15 pounds a couple of years ago when my sister was living with me and made junk food way too accessible.  (I'm the sort of person who has to keep it out of sight to avoid eating it.)  She's since moved in with our parents and now my mum's gaining weight while I lose it.  :-(  I also had to work a ridiculous amount of overtime over the last year - which resulted in me eating *way* too much fast food and messed with my sleeping patterns horribly.  More bad habits!  Fortunately, my department head knows that they can't do that to me again any time soon - at least not if they have a choice in the matter.  (The whole problem was caused by a ton of paternity leaves all taken in very close proximity and the university not letting us hire enough extra people to properly make up the difference.)

My current mini-goal is to get down to 160 by the time classes start in September.  My longer term goal is to fit into the most gorgeous dress I own - bought back when I was 140.  It was a size 10 then (probably a size 6 now, given the mess that is vanity sizing) and I just barely fit into it, but it fit me once so it should be possible to fit into it again.

I am definitely in. I am now 142lbs, my HW was 155 and my goal weight for now is 110.  I weigh in every friday or monday depending on how i am feeling.

colorblind - We are :D Cool. It's nice to see someone with the same sort of stats as me. And around the same age. Cool. :D

Weigh in on friday? eh. Well, my insane I've gained 3 lbs has gone, well, one of those lbs... so... hopefully by friday, I'll be back where I was before the weekend!

Hi  - I am after a new group to join!

27years old, 5'6" female

Currently  - 180(ish)

Aiming for 150ish long term (am so jealous of those of you there already :-) !)

Good luck all!

I am currently 174..SW of 183...i could not reduce my calorie intake directly to 1200...so i started with 1900..now i do 1700 a day...from next week it will be down to 1500....

i exercise 5 days a week....50 mins each day...3 days of aerobics and 2 days of weight training...

my goal weight is 140's...

Woooo, there are alot of people on this thread now. I wasn't able to eat at home the other night and ended up having some slight junk last night. Since I admitted undereat right now (usually under 1600 which is unhealthy for a male of my weight), and am trying to eat a little bit more, it probably wasn't bad for me. I couldn't weigh myself this morning since we woke up the the girlfriends parents house and their scale is apaprently broken. (Along with the hot water, funfun) Hope I still managed to lose, but If I didn't I know where it came from. Im exhausted from writing a giant blog post (not on cc) so Ill write back in a bit :P.  Oh and btw, Im guessing im the only guy on this thread so far?  GL to all of you guys that are in this thread so far!

Oh and diet turkey hill lemon diet is the devil. 0 calories, but still so yummy. :P

Hey everyone!  Hope I'm not too late to join in the fun.  I'm 35 yo, 5'4" and weighed 153 this morning.  I was originally on here until early last year and lost about 20 lbs.  My goal weight is to get down to 125ish.

I am really motivated to get in better shape since I was diagnosed with MS last year and I also have a rheumatological condition that looks like lupus (still in the process of being diagnosed).  Unfortunately, I have to be really creative with my exercising since I have physical limitations.

I am on the site at least once every day (sometimes miss weekends since I have four kids with a MILLION activities each).

Would love some support/to provide support!

I am so proud of myself. I had friends over lastnight and they ordere sausage pizza and I didnt eat 1 bite, thats an amazing feat for me. Although I did help myself to a couple of lite beer, just 2 I'm not a friggin saint here people lol. BTW did we decide the official wegh in day?

Goodmorning all!  Whew!  How do I keep up with all the people who keep joining?  When should we "close" the group?  Any ideas?  I think I'll wait a while and let it naturally level off.  I'm sure there will be people who don't post as often as others, etc.

ladyfirelyght: Have you tried drinking water with cucumber and/or lemon?  Just take a pitcher of water and add several thin slices of either the cucumber or the lemon (or both if you're feeling sassy) and let it sit in the fridge as you keep refilling your glass.  It's incredibly refreshing, way better for you than splenda, and probably as close to 0 calories as you can get without drinking just plain water.

kellymcfarling: Last week I had my period and I was up about 4lbs for about 7 days.  It just came off yesterday when I weighed in at 134.6.  This was my first period since I started counting calories and I was shocked by the number.  Next month I think I will try to avoid weighing myself for the whole week.  That will be hard though as I obsessively step on the scale every morning after peeing.

susiecue: You sound like you're in academia like me.  What is your field?  What do you do?

mediar: You may, in fact, be the only guy in this thread so far... which is a shame.  Where are all teh guys on CC?  Sometimes these threads can get so girly!  :)  TTOM or TOM means "(that) time of month," by the way.  That took me a long time to figure out so I figured I'd save you the trouble of pondering it for days like I did.

So, a couple questions for you all: 1) Does anyone keep track of their measurements regularly?  I've been thinking about doing so and I was wondering if that shows more progress or if the measurements decrease as slowly as the incriments on the scale do.  Also, I'm slightly concerned about losing my boobs and was thinking this would be a good way to see if that's happening.  2) Yesterday I knew I was going to hang out with one of my friends and smoke pot (deal with it) and inevitably get the munchies.  So, I didn't consume anything all day except for my morning coffee with soymilk in an attempt to save up my 1400 calories for the pizza I expected we would order.  Well, we ordered said pizza, I ate half of it, and kept my grand total at about 1500.  My question is: Do you think this is incredibly unhealthy?  It isn't a daily practice; I'll probably only do it like once a month.  It's just that ever since I've been on CC I've realized that a calorie consumed is a calorie consumed and I'm starting to wonder if it really even matters when that calorie is consumed.  You know?

Sorry for the long-windedness.  I hope everyone is well!

Congrats on avoiding the pizza, foxymama.  As you can see from my above posts, I am not as resilient as you when it comes to pizza.  It's my mortal enemy.

Oh and official weigh-in will be Fridays, everyone.  So, let's all keep the first weigh-in in mind as we evaluate our food choices for today and Thursday!  Good luck to you all!

I don't do measurements.  I figure when the clothes get loose then I'll know the inches are coming off.  Of course, there is also the logistics of trying to bend and stretch with the tape measure.  I leaned over this morning to get my keys out of my purse and landed on my face.  LOL

I don't have much in the way of boobs to begin with so I am just investing in "enhancing" undergarments.  The add-a-cup bra from Victoria's Secret rocks!

Eating all your calories at one time may not be the best way to do things, but if it is only a once a month thing, go for it!  Better to budget the calories than blow the whole day.  I have been guilty of the same thing on occasion (like the chinese I had with hubby last night...)

I will definitely weigh in on Friday if that is the day we have all selected.  I may skip next week's weigh in if the Dr. puts me on IV steroids b/c the water weight will be INCREDIBLY depressing!

I take my measurement once a week, and weigh in every day lol. The onyl problem with measurements done by myself or someone else (with a tape measure)is that sometimes you don't measure the same way and the measurements look weird. Last week I gained a half an inch, but lost weight. It was really odd. Overall tho, its a good picture of how much you are losing. And I obessively weigh myself after peeing in the morning as well. I was sad I could weigh myself too :P.

I also will consume less calories to do something that requires alot mroe calories later in the day. For example if I know I want to do a little drinking, I will hold off on all my snacks for the day, (which prolly is 5-6 drinks) and "spend" the snack calories for drinks. I drink the new mikes light hard lemonade. :P Tho I don't drink much, too many calories. As long as you don't do it much im sure rearranging calories to fit in a day is fine.

Oh and yea, ill be taking myself out of your TTOM month conversations :) And, I think most guys are afraid of joining active conversations about weight loss :o Close the group when there are too many people to keep up with. :P. Alot of threads do have people that just kinda die off.

Pizza isn't quite my mortal enemy...but fries are. I can't resist them. Yum

I teach chemistry at the local university.  Right now, I'm co-ordinating the first year general chemistry course, but I also teach organic chemistry 'cause that's my specialty.  That gives me the big classes (relatively speaking) because those are the two years of chemistry that pre-meds need to take (as well as all the other students in the majors trying to sell themselves as pre-med majors).  It's a ton of fun, but literally half of our department has taken some sort of leave (mostly parental, some sabbaticals) over the last two years which made things kind of crazy.  If they could just stop having kids already...Wink  What's your field?

umm...wen i try taking my measurements...i fail miserably...i dont remember exactly where i kept the tape wen i did my first measurement...and i freak out when i see that the tape shows that i have gained inches when i am wearing my tight pant to office comfortably...tape measure is the evil for me...my best friend is the scale in my fitness center... :) so wen shd we weigh in?
