COMMITTED LOSERS [Group Open Again!]

Quote  |  Reply

Hi guys!  I'm baaaack!  Basically spent about 6 months UNDOING all of the weightloss you all helped me with last year and am now at a whopping 148 lbs, 8 lbs more than what I started with last year.  I feel disgusting and totally ashamed.  Time to get back on track.  Hope to be down to 130 by the end of the summer.  Anyone new want to join me for weekly weigh-ins and daily motivation?  Anyone still around from last summer?

[OP from last summer: I've been doing weekly weigh-ins in a couple of CC forum groups, but no one seems to want to offer support and motivation on any other day than weigh-in day!  Everyone checks in about once a week and that's it.  I need an active forum that I can turn to every day for inspiration.  I think it would be best to limit such a group to about 15 really committed members with similar stats and goals.  I'm looking for people who can check in and post regularly, people who turn to this group instead of binging, people who will share their weaknesses, rants, raves, progresses, and plateaus as often as possible.

I'm proposing that we weigh-in on FRIDAYS and that we keep "weighing-in" metaphorically every other day of the week.  Who's with me?]

Tode: I am glad you are joining me in the 5 day scale free challenge. I am having tremendous withdrawal. I know that I can do it with someone else helping me. I do think it is possible to drop 3 pounds a week. It is probably on the high side, though. Are you drinking enough? Let's see what the scale says Friday.

Wyogirl: One question--is it about weight or health? To stop smoking is tough! and usually comes with some weight gain. However, the benefits from stopping smoking outweighs the temporary weight gain.

Look how far you have come since April 2. Be proud and satisfied with what you have done, and stop beating yourself up about the weight. When you feel ready after the camping trip, come back to the website. We will still be here and waiting for you to jump back on board with us. Don't cry--look yourself in the mirror and remind yourself that YOU ARE A NON-SMOKER! WOO! HOO!

Ladies, we CAN do this, but our focus is health, remember? Each day we are getting stronger and healthier. Some days we do it a little lighter and some days a little heavier. But it's progress!! I encourage each of us to embrace ourselves as the strong, wonderful women that we are.

Have a great day!

J-mom

You're right, jmom.  Very inspiring.  Thanks!

I totally agree-I am so glad I am done smoking-I gave myself this time to make sure I quit.  I am ready to start back on my healthy routine.  I can't wait to see how well I can run now that I don't smoke anymore.  I can accept the weight-but now it's time to change that so I will begin again next week.  I am still here I haven't give up this site, I'm just waiting to put forth the effort till next week.   I appreciate the support-Thanks!!!!!!

What a great group!

Squash sticks are any kind of squash but I have been using Zucchini cause it's low cal and cheap.  (a 10 oz one is only 45 cals) cut it in thirds then each third in four to six sticks depending on the thickness.  Preheat the oven to 450.

Hungry girl loves butternut instead of french fries.http://www.hungrygirl.com/

Spray a pan with pam.  I use a plastic bag and put in a half a Tablespoon of cornstarch about 15 cals and then season the crap out of it.  LOL  I like Cajun spice extra hot, but you could use poultry and salt or Italian.  Mix it up well then put in all of your sticks and shake it up well.  Then place them on the pan skin up and spray well with pam.  Wait 10 minutes and flip them while keeping skin still up.  This gives a little crisp.  Cook another 10 minutes.  DONE!

They are soft but full of flavor and you can have a pound of food for under 100 cals.  (If you have them with a lean protein you'll stay full.)

Coleslaw dressing 1 T our low fat sour-cream 20 cals 2 or 3 T vinegar and 2 teaspoons slpenda (about 9 cals) I add season salt and a dash of cayenne pepper mix with up to 3 cups of slaw and let sit for at least an hour for flavors to merry.

goal weight: 150 by June 25th

diet: chicken breasts, potatoes, lean pockets, soups, salads, mac n cheese, pork chops, occassional burger

exercise: I walk and bike- trying to do one hour of each per day
weaknesses: lots of butter, sour cream --- fast food ( why do I like it when I know its SO BAD??)
occupation: telecommunications
hobbies: spending time with my dog and my boyfriend, music, gardening, TV

I am so happy to have found this-- I have put on 80 pounds in 5 years and it SUCKS. I was 122 for my prom in 04 and that was me at perfection!! I really am dying to be back there, right now I am too fat to wear a bathing suit and I am 23 with a very fit boyfriend, it is so discouraging to be getting close to summer time and yet I cannot and will not wear a bathing suit again.

I am wondering if there is any one with experience in extreme fitness? I am wanting to devote my entire afternoon/evenings to sweating away this excess baggage --- I need to lost as much as possibly, healthy or not, by June 25th --very important date. I have watch the biggest loser and come on they lose some times nearly 20 lbs per week and this is a televised show, I know me lose 8-10 a week is not going to kill me. Not worried about feeling hungry, not worried about feeling deprive, just worried about getting rid of this extra 80 pounds on me!

I have read most of the posts on here and you are all inspirational and I give you so much respect :)

signed,

desperate.

Welcome kde!  Sounds like you'll really benefit from participating in a group like this.  One thing though: I doubt that any of us are going to give you our blessing for losing 8-10 lbs per week.  I can only speak for myself, but I think that 1-2 lbs per week (as recommended by CC) is the only way to go.  I know it's tempting to try to lose more, but I am certain it's not healthy and will definitely not sustain itself.  Besides, losing weight that fast is a great way to guarantee that the minute you slow down your exercise and start eating more you'll gain it all back in a jiffy.  Really.  In my opinion the only way to get it off and keep it off is slow and steady.  Remember, this is a lifestyle change, not a diet.  It may very well take you over a year to lose 80 lbs, but this is the healthiest way.  And CC will be here for you the whole time.  Good luck!

sounds amazing.  note to self: make leanne's squash sticks ASAP.

kde,

I recognize and understand your desperation, but wanting to lose weight at all cost will cost you much more than you really want to spend. Read the posts on CC. You will see over and over and over how many of us has crash dieted, binged, purged, etc to get the weight off. That's obsession, not health and in the end, you cannot and will not sustain the weight loss. You, also, will damage your metabolism and later (when you are old like me) you will find weight loss almost impossible.

Throughout my entire youth, I was tiny. I started high school at less than 100 lbs. By my 20's, I was up to 130. I joined the Navy in 1984 and discovered all the amazing foods that exist on the west coast. I ate Mexican, Thai, real Chinese, etc. By 1982, I was 150 lbs. Over 4 months, I lost 44 lbs by fasting. When I married in 1983, I was 106. I stayed 110-120 until after the birth of my second child. Then, slowly I gained to 130, then 140, now 150. I never want to weigh 106 again because I physically and mentally felt like crap, but I would like to get to 140 with an ultimate goal of 127. I can't get to 140 fast partly because of my age, but mostly because I don't want to harm my health or metabolism anymore.

That's why I choose CC and I log my food and exercise and post with others like me who want to be healthy, happy, balanced, and accepting of themselves. You have read the posts here. We are accepting, encouraging, yet very honest with ourselves and others. Certainly you can lose weight any way you choose, but I have to tell you, I read a lot of pain in your words. Take our (virtual) hands and join us in this journey toward good habits, good eating, and eventually a weight that is good for you. It's easy to start, and we will be with you the entire way.

Hope you choose to join us,

J-mom

Tode, I think I might try to take a break, too, from alcohol, though not until June. I'm so used to drinking every week that I'll probably start just w/one week and see how that goes. You're right, though, going out drinking with friends definitely will be a nice reward for you to look forward to.

Jehz, that's great that your swim suit feels looser! Like people say, pay attention to measurements/how your clothes fit vs. the number on the scale. I actually like getting on the scale everyday to know what's going on, like...if I don't weight myself for a week and find myself 5 lbs heavier (just an example, but any #), I might question whether or not that's real weight or water weight. But, if I weigh myself everyday and in 1 day see that I've "put on" 5 lbs, I remain calmer knowing that it's just water weight.

Leanne, thanks for sharing the wonderful recipes! I might try a similar version with some frozen zucchini wheels that I have. I'm sure they won't be as good as fresh veggies, but I guess I should eat what I have in the freezer for now :) I also read somewhere that you can use carrots instead of squash! I've never tried, but people claim that they taste like sweet potato fries!

Kde, I wish you the best. Welcome to the group :)

Update:

I weighed myself today and I'm 122-124 (depending on the scale...ugh, don't ask). My legs still hurt from attempting to job/run this past Saturday. I just started doing the 30-day shred, and actually didn't find it as hard as I thought I would...very surprising. According to my HRM, I burnt about 200 cals doing that. Not much, but for the time that I did it, it's not too bad. I want to attempt to jog, but I don't want to hurt myself even more.

So far I've eaten a handful of grapes and some leftover mac and chz. My total consumption so far's probably around 400, which also includes 2 iced coffees w/equal and creamer.

iced: The worst is going out with friends and not drinking, like I did again last night.  It's funny though, when you're not drinking you can really notice the subtle differences in friends' personalities as the night wears on and the pints get emptied.  Hahaha.

all:  I was feeling really unmotivated all day today.  This weird thing happens to me when I reduce my calories.  My muscles start to feel really weak and weird, like after you get out of a long hot bath or a sauna.  Does anyone else have this problem?  I don't feel particularly hungry, just really weird.  I go back and forth between worrying and telling myself this is just what it feels like to burn more calories than you consume.  Anyway, I felt like poop today and I didn't want to exercise AT ALL.  But I did the Jillian dvd (250 calories) and am just now getting back from an hour long walk with my partner (215 calories)!!!  I'm really proud of myself and hope I can keep this up for the long haul.  Does anyone else get really discouraged when the calculate how long it will take to get the weight off at the rate you're going?  My math tells me I won't  be down to 120 until like October!  That seems SO FAR AWAY!  :(

A televised show that lies.  Those "weeks" that they lose 20 pounds in are a lot longer than a week.  They start filming way ahead of time so that everything's time lagged and it just seems like each 'week' is only 7 days.  I'm sorry, but you can't lose 50 pounds in a month by any means other than liposuction.  (I don't even know if you can lose that much that way.)

What you *can* do is lose 10-15 pounds (counting initial water weight), buy a killer outfit, workout and improve your posture and make it *look* like you've lost 30 pounds.

I did kind of a dumb thing for dinner tonight.  I ate a burger... with a fried egg on it.  A fried egg on a burger!

Had I eaten a normal dinner I would have had like a 750 calorie deficit today.  But I didn't and I think my deficit was probably around 200.  Thing is, I fell pretty great about this.  The burger was delicious.  :)

And you still had a deficit, so nothing to beat yourself up over.  Sometimes we just have to get those sorts of cravings out of our system.  Maybe your body needed some fat?  (Nutritionwise.  Not to add to itself!  :-) )

I so would love to join this group.  I need the support and motivation that I just do not receive here.  Let's see, where to begin.  Back in the day I was a runner, weighed 115 and was told by my mother that I was fat.  I am 5'6".  Joined the army, had my first child and gained a 100.  Made it down to 145 which was healthy and I felt good about myself.  Had second child and weighed 205, did not lose it.  Divorced my husband and lost 15.  Remarried my HS sweetheart and had 3rd child.  Gained 25 and lost it right after the baby was born.  Now I am stuck in a rut.  We moved from the DC area to the San Diego area in Feb.  My husband left 2 weeks later for his ship.  I will see him in June for a few days and he will leave again until mid Sept.  I promised myself I would lose 20 by Sept., I have lost 1.  I stay at home with the baby (turning one on the 29th), drive the ten and fifteen year old to and from school (no buses here).  I walk to the ten year olds school 3-5 days a week, two miles round trip half a mile up a steep hill.  I do this pushing a stroller, and since I have 15 minutes to pick her up after getting home with the fifteen year old I get my heart rate up quickly.  This is the only real excercise I get.  I am worried when school is out for the summer I will stop walking.  My eating habits, although I intend for them to be good are not.  I realized that since I no nobody here, I have not support system that support is what I really need.  From what I have read, this is the place to be.  PLEASE HELP!!!!!

My stats:

Height: 5'6 1/2

 Weight: 189

 Goal Weight #1 = 169 by Sept 14

Goal Weight #2 = 145 by May 2010.  Hubby said if I get down to 115 like in HS he will strangle me, LOL.  He was a toothpick then as well.

Favorite foods are: chocolate, cookies, chicken, salads, brownies.

Love to watch TV, Read, Drive, Cook, Play with my children, and spending time with my husband..  Would love to put on a bathing suite and play with the kids in the pool.  Maybe someday.

Again, I would love some support, friendship, advice, accountability, anything.  I am willing to give support as well.  Thanks.

Wow, Terrdog, you sound really busy. You also sound like you are ready to get back to your fighting weight. So, jump on with us and lose. Begin by logging your weight, food, and activity. Whether you make any changes or not, it doesn't matter. When you log you start to see how you eat, when you eat, what you eat, and how active you really are (or are not). Then you will know what foods to cut down on to lose weight. You will see if you eat enough or not enough, too. Keep us posted, and use CC for support, encouragement, and the help you need. Good luck.

Did good yesterday until dinner. My daughter called and she flew into Dallas for a 3-day meeting. She was supposed to fly with co-workers, but her flight was changed and she came alone. I picked her up, we had dinner, and got home late. The dinner was good--The Cheesecake Factory. I had the diet chicken oriental salad and only used about 3 T dressing. NO DESSERT!! Though this isn't saying much since I can do without cheesecake without feeling deprived. I am starting to have horrible salt cravings. That's normal for me at this time of the month.

I started to jump on the scale this morning, then reconsidered--it's not Friday yet. The withdrawal is killing me!! I can't wait to see what the Friday weight will be. I hope this pain is worth it.

Well, back on the wagon today. I took a little exercise rest yesterday. Only did the 30 Day Shred Day 1. Am a little bit sore, but not uncomfortable. Would like to do this for the next 10 days before returning back to work next Friday and see what happens.

Talk to you all later,

J-mom

Good morning a welcome to our newest!

Today is day 1 of TTOM and I know I'm up a few since yesterday.  I hope to be normal by Friday.  All I can do is stay within my cal range and know it is NOT real and I'll be non puffy again soon.  I'm going out shopping today and at least I won't be tempted to buy clothes.  I do want a nice pair of sandles though and maybe a sundress HMMMMM...

I'm slso going out for lunch.  I did try on a pair of my skinny pants  I can get them up and zipped but the muffin top makes me want to stick with the program.

What is this 30 day shred?

Welcome terrdog!  The 30 Day Shred is a workout dvd by Jillian Michaels, one of the trainers from the Biggest Loser.  It's pretty good.  I burn about 250 calories doing the Level 1 workout.  Bought mine on Amazon for like $10.  Totally worth it.  It would probably be really great for someone as busy as you are.  All you need are some hand weights, a mat, and enough room in front of your tv to do jumping jacks in.

I did okay yesterday.  Went for a 2 mile walk after work with my boys.  I only had a 100 cal deficit because I had a few beers when my husband got home.  But like I said before, I am coasting this week and will really get back on track next week.  I will also give up beer once my vacation is over.  Absolutley none during the week and will not have any on the weekend for 1 month.  Then we will see how it goes.

We can do this!!!!  Keep it up.

Wyo, 100 cal deficit is still a deficit! That's great you could have some beers and still lose. Unfortunately, I don't have that kind of self control.

I hope that everyone else is doing well, too :)

Yesterday I had about a 500 calorie deficit. I really wanted to go jogging after doing day 1 of the 30-day shred, but I couldn't because my legs hurt too much. I guess the 30-day shred got to me after all because they hurt even more today. I just figured that they hurt so much yesterday, still, from my attempts at jogging this past Sat.

I came to the unfortunate realization, yesterday, that I'm not burning as many cals as I previously thought exercising. When I was in better shape, I used to go to the gym and use the elliptical and burn 600 cals, supposedly. I would then rationalize that I could go 600 cals over my usual given amount and still okay. WRONG! I actually burn 600 MINUS the amount that I'd be burning regularly (if I were just sitting). Ugh. So that made me depressed...especially seeing how I burned only 200 cals doing the 30-day shred. That really only amounts to a little over 100 cals burnt :(

Oh well. Today I got up pretty late, so I've only had an apple, handful of ff popcorn, and an iced coffee w/cream and equal, which amts to about 150 cals. I'm about to go get my soup cans and do the 30-day shred day 2.

Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?

In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
