Do you compensate for overeating at the next meal?

Hey everyone,

This morning I was treated out to breakfast and ended up having a rather unhealthy breakfast that included sausage links and fried potatoes... :\ so I was just wondering if you try and eat less (or something much lower in calories) at your next meals throughout the day in order to keep below your calories or not. But I probably can't be satisfied having a big breakfast and two salads everyday :P (an exaggeration but you know what I mean!) so I was just wondering how other people out there approached the situation. Thanks! ^^

EDIT: So I just calculated my breakfast calories and it was something like 1,000 calories when I only have 1325 for the day! I mean I knew it was bad but didn't think it would be that bad.... Should I just consider this a bad day and move on, and if not what the heck am I supposed to eat for the rest of the day ... ? Thanks.. :<

i'll usually go work out(bike ride or something) and will eat less through out the rest of the day. I'm usually stuffed if i have a naughty meal anyways and dont feel as hungry as i normally am. it is important to eat at normal intervals as normal but just eat less

I think you have to compensate a little, which is why you can technically eat what you want, as long as you plan for it.  Like today I was craving a Chipotle burrito.  So I got one and blew about 75% of my daily cals enjoying it.  So to compensate I will be hitting the gym an extra day and munching on veggies for dinner.

You can compensate as long as it's only occassional and as long as you are still generally getting in proper nutrition.

I often eat a big breakfast on Sunday's but I consider it brunch and just try to eat a bit lighter the rest of the day, and get in a bit of exercise.

I do all sorts of compensating.

Big breakfast out; eat a very light for lunch and a normal dinner (or consider it a brunch, as an above poster mentioned).

Big lunch out; light breakfast, then normal dinner.

Big dinner out; regular breakfast, light lunch.

I eat light before the big meal because I consider the big meal a wonderful indulgence and I want stomach room to take in as much of the experience as I can. Makes me sad to see my friends turn down a dessert they really want. Especially when they have to watch me eat mine.

If I feel like my meal out was full of sodium/sugar and I WAY overate, then for the next couple days I'll make sure to hydrate, eat nearly 100% clean foods, and not skip my workouts.

I've had some big eating days since starting this (and suffered some massive 'food hangovers') but normally see things return to normal in a day or two. Since I'm lucky enough to be able to make most of my own meals almost all of the time, compensating every once in a while so I can fully indulge goes pretty smooth and hasn't hindered my healthy living efforts.

If I have a huge meal for one sitting I try to compensate the rest of the day. If I fail by the end of the night and have gone over what I burned then I will take it out of the next day. Sometimes a piece of cake needs to be gradually compensated for...100 calories for everyday the next week...then I don't feel deprived at the end of each day and a week later I am all caught up.
