Competitive person looking to start by losing ten pounds
I am 25 yrs old, female, 5'4", 154 lbs. I never struggled with weight when I was younger, but have begun to. Im looking to lose 30 lbs. Right now Im focussing on the first ten. Having someone to keep me going is a big plus, so Im looking for someone with similar goals as me to compare workouts, calories burned, calories eaten, and weight lost with. Weigh ins once or twice a week with a log of what we did for exercise and calories consumed. I definitely don't know a lot about working out so I think that comparing notes will help us figure out what works the best. Im very competitive and want someone else who likes to win. If we both push ourselves to "win" we can only help eachother. Please respond if you are interested. I live in Albany, NY so if anyone's from around here even better. Thanks and good luck to everyone!

yay! so i gave most of my halloween candy away, but unfortunately also ate quite a few pieces in the process. Overall though, not too shabby. I think I was around 200ish calories over maintenance. Going trick or treating is a lot of exercise! We walked around and climbed porch steps for 2 hours.
All the guilt from the past 3 days has kept me in check today. Plus, my jaw is starting to click (I think I chew too much gum) so I have to drink soups and eat soft foods for a while, which means I will generally be eating very healthy.
I'm not really a breakfast person either, but I agree that it helps with night-time munchies. Plus, it motivates me to eat healthier during the day. I usually just have something around 100 cals like a Chewy granola bar, piece of bread, or fruit.
Not really looking forward to Monday's calorie check in...
but I guess that should inspire me to work harder, haha.
Alright everyone. It's Monday!
I drank a lot this weekend, but I had my deficits be high during the week to try to make up for it. So... Here is my first report.
Cal. Consumed - Cal. from workouts - Daily Cal burned (number on burn meter before any workouts added) = Calorie Deficit
Monday (10/27): 1233 (consumed) - 652 (workout) - 2000 (daily burn meter) = -1419
Tuesday(10/28): 1313 - 0 - 2000 = -687
Wednesday(10/29): 1283 - 621 - 2000 = -1338
Thursday(10/30): 1388 - 550 - 2000 = -1162
Friday(10/31): 2606 - 607 - 2000 = -1
Saturday(11/01): 2378 - 0 - 2000 = +378
Sunday(11/02): 791 - 560 - 2000 = -1769
Total deficit for week(10/27-11/02) = -5998 / 7 = -857 cal per day
I dont want to have an overall deficit of more than 1000 a day, so 857 is good. Im happy with how I did this week. I went over on the weekend with all of my drinking, but I stay under the rest of the week. Im not willing to give up my drinking on the weekends at this point, so I have to shoot to be extra low during the week. I weighed myself at the gym yesterday and was at 147.25, so it looks like even with my crazy weekend Im still losing! YAY.
I tried to set mine up so that it was easy to understand for the rest of you to do. If you have any questions just send a post. Ill be on most of the day. Looking forward to see how everyone else's weekends went!
I did so well, and then my week got horrible, and I let it put my diet into the toilet. Sorry, promise I'll do better this week. My period is due, and it was my first week back, so I'm cutting myself some slack. I figure that at least I didn't gain any weight because I watched it for most of the week. I'd rather not even post this because it is so pathetic, but here ya go.....
(10/27 - 11/2): 13000 - 1500 - 11746 = -246
I had the MOST FANTASTIC weekend in St. Louis with my high school sweetheart, but truly behaved myself eatin and drinking and did tons of walking too.
ok, so I'm still an idiot.
If I ate 12000, worked out 1250 -- where do I go from there? sorry, LMS, I will try harder.....
Janay: What is your BMR?
hi! I didnt record my calories before Wednesday, but my calorie deficit after Wednesday wasn't great. Somewhere around 200-300 I'm guessing, so I'll put it at -250 cals.
I did super well today! Ran 3 miles and ate well.
Plus, I made that soup, and apparently the trick to the egg is that you need to pour it in slowly while stirring to get the wispy texture.
good luck to everyone, and thanks for organizing our stats!
hey poupe. BMR, right? 1770 according to calorie coach.
I had a fantastic jog with my jog this morning. Stars were so pretty. ( :
Hey everyone! it's election day, YAY! Janay, just take ur BMR, multiply it by the number of days and then subtract that also. Then divide that number by 7 to get your average deficit per day.
So... 12,000(ate) - 1250 (worked out) - (1770 * 7 = 12,390) = 1640/7 = -234
So Janay your daily deficit is 234 calories.
So, yesterday I didnt go to the gym because I was going to get there late and it would have been ridiculously crowded. Then I didnt want to go out in the dark to my car then try to find a parking space when I got home at 10:00 pm. Im sure none of you know but a college kid got shot in the head a week and a half ago on my street a few blocks down and people are getting mugged like crazy here in Albany. They're saying they think it's groups of 3 to 4 people targeting people walking alone for gang initiation. It makes it creepy though because I have to park on the street and sometimes far away. So either way I didnt go to the gym, and I didnt eat great yesterday either. Today I wont go to the gym b/c I need to go home and vote, then it'll be around 7 when polls start to close and since Im a big dork it's like my fav day. i want to just get a 6 pack of cider and watch CNN all night. Of course with 200 cal per cider it certainly isnt gonna help me. I did so well last week and now I have absolutely zero motivation. Tomorrow it's back to the gym for an extra hard workout. And Ill have to go on Saturday this week to make up for the fact I didnt go yesterday, but Im sure I wont. Other than that, nothing new or exciting. Make sure you vote!
Hello! I know I'm a little late, but I was just wondering if I could join you all. LMS you sound very similar to me, I'm a college student in Worcester, MA which is also not the best city....scary muggings and armed robberies, etc. I wouldn't blame you for not going to the gym...I don't go very far after dark, but luckily I live on campus and the gym is just across the street!
I also like to keep track of my calories very closely...sometimes ridiculously, as I am such a planner. Here are my stats.

Sure jmalone, you can join us. Yesterday was our first week posting calories. Last Wednesday we posted our first weights with a goal of ten less than that. If you want to start this Wednesday by posting your weight Ill add you to the list. Please read through the previous posts to get the full understanding of what we are posting and why.
My family is from Mass. My mom grew up in Lowell and my dad in Tewksbury. I was born in Lowell. My whole extended family still lives there. My bf mocks me all the time for saying "wicked." Which btw, I didnt even know I said because I was from Mass. until like 2 years ago.
Tell us some more about you...
Alright sounds good. I looked thru the pages, and I think i get how things are done. Weigh-ins on wednesdays...post calories on mondays (consumed-workout-BMR=deficit)...right?
About me....I'm a college student at Clark University. I've been struggling with my weight all my life. Last december I started losing and got down to 156, but the summer and first few weeks at Clark were the death of me. I gained about 13lb. I joined the Crew team this fall and competed in several Regattas, but now its winter training time. We do about 2 hours a day of training. 3 times a week we do 45 minute ergs (rowing machine) which are brutal but are also very good for cardio. I also use the elliptical 3-4 times a week just to burn a few extra calories. I have a little competition with my boyfriend for Dec. 1st: I lose weight, he builds muscle, which should keep me motivated. I'm looking to lose 10lbs first as a mini goal by Dec 1st...hopefully.
Thanks for letting me join :)
Oh and I say wicked too...but its definitely a New England thing. I'm originally from Vermont.
glad to have you jmalone!
hope everyone is having a good tuesday!! missed my workout yesterday, but got it in today. did not want to go, so I'm proud of myself. probably won't show a loss tomorrow (just hope it's not a gain), but hopefully next weeks weigh-in will be better. can't wait to see everyone's progress tomorrow:-)
welcome jmalone!! ( : wicked is a word I should use more. lol
you can do it. I am betting..... a few things. not drinking water -- prob soda or coffee.. eating cafeteria food = sodium = water weight. Um,.... Ithink the bf contest is awesome. I used to have Bowflex which ROCKED and then I broke up with the bf.... and now I do not......... anywho...... rowing sounds FUN!!! I would love that. 10 by 12-31 is totally feasible.
I shouldn;t have, but I had a few drinks.... I am so hungry, but I seriously have veggies and frozen fish/or chicken. I do not wanna cook real food.... dang. Eating raw carrots right now. eating what I can find soon. bad. sigh. I will not exceeed my cal range. promise.
good morning all!
weigh in today, right?

Congratulations on your losses Janay O & JMalone!!!
hey poupe --- yay for maintaining!!! next wek is your week, girlie. ( :
thanks, jmalone, but lol. I am sure it was just up with all the breakup stress, slodium, and probably too much to drink.
I am sure next week, my loss will look less imporessive, but I do not care. I have been with in 8 lbs or so of my goal of 150 for a long time it feels like.... if I could break int othe 140's I WOULD BE STOKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never been 140anything ever..... seriously I know I weighed 152 in 10th grade when we did thw dreaded fat pinch test in PE, but I was a fat kid --- like I went from 100 lbs in 5th grade to fat rapidly.... and I am short, so..... If I could just get to 150 and maintain and keep up my workouts and smart eating ,etc, I would be ok with that.... I would keep trying to lose, but it is about being fit and healthy to me more than ANYTHING else.... I feel good in my own skin again --- and that is rocking!!!!

exact same as you pouple!
I'm a bit disappointed since last week was ttom and I thought some of the weight was attributed to water weight. Apparently not...
Going to the gym today for another 3 mile jog. Hah, as further proof of my competitive spirit, I've started a competition with one of my friends to see who can complete 50 miles this month first. It's going to be tough!
Oh! And I'm a college student too near Boston! ![]()
Hey laidies,
I dont weigh myself until after the gym tonight. I had a lot of calories this weekend and missed my workout on Monday, followed by a calzone for dinner last night (like 1000 calories) and 5 woodchuck ciders at 140 cal each. So for the day I was over 2100, which sucks. There's def no way I have lost any weight, but as long as I didnt gain any I guess I'll be alright for now. Gonna spend an extra long time on the elliptical tonight. Gonna shoot for an hour.
Good job on no one having a weight gain! let's keep up the good work.
laura -- I would join you if you want in your quest in 50 miles this month..... I run 3 every other day, a little more others.
yum calzone though, lms ---
