Competitive person looking to start by losing ten pounds

Quote  |  Reply

I am 25 yrs old, female, 5'4", 154 lbs.  I never struggled with weight when I was younger, but have begun to.  Im looking to lose 30 lbs.  Right now Im focussing on the first ten.  Having someone to keep me going is a big plus, so Im looking for someone with similar goals as me to compare workouts, calories burned, calories eaten, and weight lost with.  Weigh ins once or twice a week with a log of what we did for exercise and calories consumed.  I definitely don't know a lot about working out so I think that comparing notes will help us figure out what works the best.  Im very competitive and want someone else who likes to win.  If we both push ourselves to "win" we can only help eachother.  Please respond if you are interested.  I live in Albany, NY so if anyone's from around here even better.  Thanks and good luck to everyone!

Hi!  I hope it's not too late to join your group.    My goal is to lose about 15 pounds, but I'd be thrilled to lose 10.    I've read some of the previous posts, and I like the format you're using, i.e. Wed. weigh-ins, etc.   I'm not too sure about the calorie deficit part, but hopefully I'll get the hang of it.   I've been on CC for over a year, off and on, and I've been stuck in the low 140's, high 130's, so it's time to get serious!!  Hopefully, logging in to a group will be the motivation to finally get me off this plateau!!

A little about me:   I'm an active female in my 50's.   My husband and I are retired snowbirds right now in Florida, but our main home is in Virginia.   I play a lot of tennis and was a runner until I rolled my ankle for the 3rd time.   So now I'm a walker -- hate it, but at least it saves my ankle for tennis.   I walk or play tennis 3-4 times a week, and do weights or exercise tapes the alternate days.

So here's my stats:

Height:  5'4"

SW:  142.5  Sept 08  ( my high weight)

CW:  137  (138.25  weight on trend line in weight log)

GW:  125-ish

Good morning everyone,

So I went to the gym last night.  Did an hour on the elliptical, 652 calories...  but at the end I had the worst pressure in my head.  It was just this awful headache covering the whole top of my head.  It felt like extreme pressure.  I only went ten minutes more than I normally do and Im usually fine, so maybe I was just having a headache.  I still have a bit of a headache this morning, so I dont think it was related.  I weighed myself at the end and was at 146.25.  YAY!  Even with my skipping the gym Monday and drinking to excess the last few days I still lost some weight.

This week my goal is to not skip the gym at all, stick to my cal intake during the week, and stay at maintenance on the weekends.  Hopefully then I'll lose more next week.

welcome to deegee!!  ( :

dang, lms --- you are kicking my butt.   I was up after my low yesterday back to 157.......    I woke up late this morning -- alarm did not go off, BUT I still went for my jog!!!!!!!!!!!  I am SO PROUD OF THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Ladies, Here is the list of weights.  The three of us who did calorie deficits for this week will be listed also.  For those who are just joining we report that on Mondays and hopefully this list that I post will help everyone see what deficit they should be at so that they can tweak their workouts and eating for optimum loss!

11/5:

Janay101: 153.5 (-5.5 lbs) w/ cal deficit of 234/day  (I'm sure this is explained by your weight fluctuation last week, is it more steady this week?)

Lms1317: 146.25 (-2.25 lbs) w/ cal deficit of 857 cal/day

Pouple80601: 139.2 (Even) w/ cal deficit of 246 cal/day

Opalaurora: 139.2 (+0.2 lbs) w unknown deficit

Jmalone1989: 164.4 (first weigh in)

DeeGee52: 137 (first weigh in)

Mom6: 132 (first weigh in)

I have been reading about deficits more and the average weight loss at a 500 cal deficit is 1 lb/week, so between 500-1000 would be 1-2 lbs, which is the recommended level of weight loss.

Keep up the good work girls and I look forward to next week when everyone will have a deficit and weight loss or gain to compare.

I hope for it to be more consistent, yes, but who knows with me?   ( :

good for you for jogging anyway, janay! Smile  It's hard to get motivated after a late start.

this morning I elliptical/jogged 4 miles after my ballet class.  I feel great! Laughing  I just finished eating a healthy lunch, and am off to class until around 8pm which means I won't be able to do my usual constant snacking ritual.

I wish I could lose 2lbs/wk, but right now, I'd be happy with any sort of weight loss.  Although, a 7000 deficit for one week sounds like a LOT!

Janay: thanks for the encouragement. i really do want to do better this week. Looks like you only have a few lbs. before you're at least fluctuating down to the 140's. How exciting!

OpalAurora: WOW! 50 miles!?! great challenge! You'll have to keep us updated on where you're at with that this month. We're the same now, but I be that if you keep that up (plus ballet?!! - very impressive), you'll pass me up fast!!;-) I know what you mean about being happy with any weight loss at the moment. Last spring I had no problem with 2lb/week loss, but right now, just don't quite have the motivation, although this thread helps!

Lms: YAY! and you didn't think you'd have a loss this week... -2.25#? That's awesome. Guess you did better this week than you realised:-) Did you ever have a problem with the headache thing again? sounds awful. thanks again for compiling all our numbers for us. sure makes it alot easier to keep track of who is getting results and how.

M0m6: WELCOME! Wow... 132 sounds so nice right now. I haven't seen that for 6 weeks or so. makes me wish I hadn't let myself get off track. Just curious... what's ur height (if you posted it somewhere, I missed)?

Deegee52: WELCOME! don't you though? Didn't lms have a great idea on how to lay everything out? I love this thread. Glad to have you!

So, trying REALLY hard to make a lb. lost this week, but struggling. My period is due on Sunday (better start and not drag out longer!!! rrrr!). I'm starving! did terrible Mon., then great Tues. & Wed. and then horrible again yesterday (too many calories). I did get all 3 of my workouts in this week though (it's so minimal compared to what I was doing before, but at least I'm going again). Proud of that! And, I wasn't sore at all (thought I was going to die last week.... good reason not to get out of the habit, eh?). I'm going away to work this weekend, and because of the project schedule, I will be fed on-site, so will have no say in what I eat. Just have to watch the portions, and have no desert, I guess. They have yummy food too, so it will be hard. Plus, if I want to be -3500 for the week, then IF I'm good today (as in a mere 800 calories), I'll only be able to have 1250 cal/day Sat. & Sun. Not difficult at home, and when I'm not STARVING 'cause of stupid TOM, but.... anyway, really, really hoping for 1lb. loss this week, but may only be 1/2lb. or so. maybe water weight will come off after TOM is done, though? Think it should 'cause, I saw 137 just before I started CC (and days b4 TOM) and haven't seen it since, so should be up a couple lbs. from TOM. guess we'll see, huh!?!

I'm only asking for 1lb.!!! is that so much to ask?!?!? Next week's calorie intake should finally be better for me (TOM over.... I really did start back on CC at a bad time - like 10 days b4 period!!.... oh well!) promise I'll be more competitive in the coming weeks Lms!

yay for all of us!

I was serious about doing the 50 miles goal with you....  if you do not mind.  3.5 today........

I way overate last night.  New groceries always does that to me, but with my jog, I was still at maintenance.   I worked out hard this morning in COLD -- 34 degrees.   I saw a jump to 157 yesterday, 155 again today.   Hoping to see 152 by weigh in after a well beahved weekend.... I may be late -- as I will be travelling, but I will keep track and weigh in and stuff,

Have good Fridays!!!!

We had our shop PT this morning, and I did 2 miles! I would alternate jogging/run/sprint. It was exhilierating. Then I did 25 minutes of leg exercises.

Im doing awful this week.  i went out again last night.  out til 4:00 AM.  Exhausted when i got up for work this morning.  I think I might have still been drunk when i was driving.. haha  but really, I was so hung over and hungry today and forgot to have breakfast so at lunch we ordered the 99 restaurant for staff lunch and i got turkey breast slices with a little gravy and cran sauce, mashed potatos, corn, stuffing, a biscuit.  I didnt eat a lot of it, so Ill eat leftovers for dinner.  i guess that makes it not so awful, lots of calories but if I just have that and maybe a salad for a snack later it shouldnt be too bad.  Yesterday we went out to Fridays for dinner with another couple we havent seen in forever.  it was nice but I had a steak and mashed potatos.  I havent logged my calories for the last two days and I have no desire to do it now so Ill probably be logging like crazy on Monday.  Seeing those numbers be so high only irritates me.  And Im even more angry because I went to the gym yesterday and did 610 calories which is good, but I would usually go after work today and am not going to.  I was too hung over this morning to even think about it and i got like 3 hours of sleep so Im exhausted.  The gym clses at 9, so maybe I can go home and relax and then go later but I probably wont.  I usually have Saturday off, but Im def gonna have to go tomorrow after skipping Monday too.  So basically, Im in a bit of a slump these last few days and trying to get abck on track.

Sorry about how ur week is going Lms.

I'm doing alright still today. If I can just make it through today!!!!!!!!

poupe and janay:  agreed and agreed.
Whenever I at TTOM I get sooo hungry for the 2-3 days before, its ridiculous.  That means though, that if I still manage to do well those days that I totally rock.

And new groceries = overeating for me too.  Just because everything looks so fresh and yummy that I want to try it all.

I'm at 12 miles this month so far.  I had planned on doing 4 miles this morning, but my quads started hurting a lot.  I hope it's nothing too serious and that I can still run later this week.
I forgot that Thanksgiving is this month and didn't factor that into my 50 mile plan.  I'll have to work harder to make up for lost time. (most likely not going running since I'll be staying at a friends' house)

My cal deficit is never great.  I think I averaged 100-200 a day this week at most.  Darn you midnight munchies!

Good luck to you all, and feel better LMS!

Is everyone still logging in calorie deficits on Mondays?

If so, mine for last week was -1069/day.   Since I've only kept track since last Wed., I only had 5 days' worth of data, so I divided my total calorie def. for the week by 5.  I hope I'm doing this right.  (Add total calories consumed - total calories burned from workout - BMR divided by number of days?

Looks good on paper, but not on the scale.   Scale's not budging!!  Very frustrating!

Opal.:  Just curious -- what does TTOM stand for?  I take it, that's your period, but "TTOM"?????  :-)

Deegee:  it means "that time of month".  It's quite a useful acronym since I'm pretty sure most men have no clue what it stands for.  Also, your calorie deficit is incredible!  I'm jealous of your self control and motivation.

Did a short 1 mile after dance this morning, although today is supposed to be my day off from running.

Ate after dinner again last night.  It's hard to not eat when studying really late Undecided, but thats okay.  I just counted it in my calories for today and I'm still doing well so far today.

Duh!!!   Of course!!   Undecided  How obvious could it be?  ha, ha!

Opal:  With all your running and dancing, I'm sure your cal. deficit will be just fine!   I'm not doing anything strenuous, just trying to do a little each day, so it adds up.   I just wish the scale would respond!!!

The main thing is the calories, keeping them under control.  Don't worry about eating after dinner, as long as your totals don't get too high.   It sounds like you're doing great!

I'll try not to be as dense with the acronyms :-)

Nov 5: 139.2

Today (Nov 12): 137.4

LaughingLaughing oh my gosh!  FINALLY a loss!
Thank you guys so much for keeping me honest and on track!

good luck to everyone else!

You're going to laugh! I weigh myself everyday and fluctuate, but on every Wed., my body is 139.2! Clearly, I didn't do so well this week, but at least I didn't go over maintenance and gain. I've GOT to find my motivation! Dunno where it is, but at least I'm consistently working out again, and I'm not gaining an oz.!! I would just really like to fluctuate a bit lower. ANYHOW....

Name:  Pouple80601

Height: 5'6"

Start Weight: 140

Goal Weight: 115 - 120

* 10/29 - 139.2

* 11/05 - 139.2

* 11/12 - 139.2

Oh, yeah, and since I really had nothing to show, I didn't post this on Monday. Sorry. Too full of shame. But, for the sake of LMS' nice breakdown, here's mine:

(11/3 - 11/9): 12900 - 1200 - 11746 = -46 / 7 = NOTHING!! Undecided

Congratulations on your loss Opalaurora!

Where is our fearless leader?! LMS... WE NEED YOULaughing!!

Good job on posting your calorie deficits Deegee. We've kinda slacked this week. The scale will budge. You'll probably have a nice big loss all at once. That's what's so important about being patient. I was just looking back at my 20lb loss at the beginning of the year and it's nice to see how even though the numbers didn't seem to be going down day to day, when you looked at them all, you could see how I had gradually fluctuated lower and lower. It'll come:) Just wish I could find the patience I seemed to have back then!
