I Completed My First 5K This Morning!
I just started the C25K program in May and really loved it. I had some hang ups with a few weeks of weather ranging from 100-111 degrees and with all of the smokey air (since Northern California was on fire for a while!) and that threw my training off.
Anyhow, I jogged and speed walked and finished in 39 minutes and 28 seconds.
Next year: 29 minutes anyone???

Congrats! That's gotta feel amazing
I'm doing my first one September 27th (I was also inspired by C25K). After that I'm planning on doing this program: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_4/142.s html Then hopefully running a second 5K in spring with a nice improvement in time.
Thanks Guys! I may try to find one around Christmastime too...but I definately would like to do this one again. I like it because it is women only and I am one of those people who realize men and women are built differenty, yet racing with men would just intimidate me! I like being with women...lots of skinny-minnies who were super-fast, but plenty of us chubby girls who plodded right along too!
This is one of my goals, to run a 5K. I'm debating on signing up for one in mid-Sept., but I only recently started running and I'm not quite up to a mile yet. I'm telling myself if I'm up to 2 miles by the end of August, I can be ready for that 5K in Sept., but it's sort of scary :)
Do It!!! It feels so good when it is all over and you are walking around with your number on your shirt and drinking water. :o) Plus, if you sign up for a run/walk 5K and only compete with yourself, it is perfect for a beginner like us!
Good for you! You are an inspiration!
Congratulations! I'll be running myt first 5k next weekend, and I'm excited for that feeling of accomplishment!
Awesome - I'm hoping to do one on T-day (USA Thanksgiving).
I'm not too good with running, but I want to try a sprint tri next summer, so I think I just need to know I can finish the running part alone!
Way to go. I'm in W4 of the C25K training program and one of my goals is to run a 5K in the near future, I'll be in the ancient men category tho! ![]()
You know, it is interesting. I chose a locally based 5K for my first one, but my hubby did the Portland Marathon a few years back (and ran the entire 26.2 miles in under 4 hours - 9 minute miles for four hours!!!). Anyhow, people are so encouraging and so supportive in the races. The people who finished first in mine started jogging back through the race course to cheer the rest of us on! When hubby, son and I first arrived, I felt extremely intimidated. We were some of the first people to arrive (other than those who were setting up). I had this exact thought, "Who are you kidding Fat Girl? Is this supposed to be a joke?" WHOA! Where did that come from? Somehow I put it out of my head. Then I had a great run/walk! I am impressed with myself that I did the course in under 40 minutes. That is the fastest I have ever done that many miles...but they were flat. :o) Anyhow, if you get there and are intimidated, shake it off. Other people are even more intimidated than you are and you can do it! There were the skinny-minnie college girls wearing their "jogging skirts" and "jogging dresses" (yep, they exist!) and there were very heavy set ladies...teenagers in jr. high jogging with their moms and women in their 70's! Lots of people walk the entire way or walk during portions of the race. You can finish the race!!!
PS: I would really like to do a sprint triathlon too!
Congratulations! And with another year, I'm sure you can do 29 minutes! Good luck!
