This is completely ridiculous and goes against EVERYTHING I've ever been told.

Check out this site.

http://www.inch-aweigh.com/dcn.php

I put in my stats: 17 years old, female, 96lbs, 5 foot 1; sedentary.

...AND WHAT DO I GET?

"You need about 720 calories during a typical day to maintain your current weight."

YEAH, OKAY.

This really pisses me off. Can someone put in their stats and see if they get a number like this? Hopefully the "720" is just missing a 1, as in 1720, but still. You'd think they'd notice a mistake this big?!?

You think it ticks you off?!

I am 34 years old, 244 lbs, 5 feet 6 inches and i need......

720 calories according to this same site to maintain MY weight.  Obviously they have some sort of glitch going on.

I also got 720. Obviously there is a flaw in this, I'd suggest either using this sites calculator or just any other one. Type any keywords having to do with 'daily caloric needs' and you will find a variety of these calculators on Google.

Lol! Obviously, considering it said the same thing for both of us. But this could be potentially devistating to someone who, for the first time, decides to check their daily caloric needs and winds up finding this helluva site.

At least I know I'm not crazy now, thank you :P

I'm four inches taller and got 720 as well.

what is your expected date of weight loss.  if you choose 1 month it might give that number.

Oh, I have. :P I've been looking through google for the past half hour going through sites and watching them each give me a different number - even ones especially for teens. I've gotten 1440 cals/day, 1700cals/day, 2450cals/day, and 1150cals/day, with the setting on sedentary each time. I KNOW I definitely need more calories than that. EDIT: (Pertaining to the 720#. :D)

Haha, I got 720 also. Must be some sort of glitch if everyone is getting it.

& Wistfulxthinking: ...:) I think we need to contact the website manager or something. This is greatly misleading.

Also; alfredomcarrion: It doesn't give you the option on that site, and just for the record, I'm not trying to lose any weight at 96lbs. Thanks, though. :)

maybe the site does not know how to calculate teens.

..Or anyone over four feet tall. Haha.

hey alysha we are "twins".  and of course I got the same number 720.  I think I need about double that if I lay in bed all day, lol.

i'm 40, 5'8", and 148 and i got the same number.  even more amusing, it told me that if i want to lose weight, i should subtract 750 from my allotted 720 and eat -30 calories a day ;)

The domain is owned by sales@shapeupshop.com.  Please feel free to email them ofyour opionons.

FYI it also tells methat I need to eat -30 calories per day to loose weight.  While that would probably work, I think that qualifies as anorexia or something.

I agree that site is mess up. I am 5ft6 43 257lbs and it says the same for me. It says that I need to eat-30 calories to lose weight.

Crazy...........

LOL grrrrreaaaaaatt.

Were going to have a whole new round of 15 year old girls swearing up and down they only need 720 calories a day.

i'm a 26/male. i weigh 150. I'm not very active at all, and it's telling me that i need 2433 calories per day to maintain my weight.

Though... i do have a super fast metabolism or something, because, for example, yesterday in total i consumed 4218 calories, and burned an estimated 2012, and yet i'm still not gaining any weight... so i'm not sure what kind of insight that gives anyone for the acuracy of the calculators. but i figured i'd reply, because i didn't get 720.

Make sure you check you diet start and end dates. I think that has something to do with it.

and a crew of mid 20 males maintaining weight by eating 4000+ calories a day :-D

Wow, I encourage everyone to contact their site manager - we can't let anyone else who doesn't know any better get to that site first and think that's a reasonable amount of calories.  I'm going to go look for a link now.

Edit: lol I like how it says I need 720 to maintain, then it tells me to subtract 750 calories from that to lose 1-2 lbs a week.  Apparently I need to eat -30 calories a day!

Hmm so I can't seem to find a link to contact anyone at that site.  Did anyone else find anything?

I found a link thru the main site shapeupshop.

I sent them an email advising of the issue.

It told me the same thing - 720 and to to cut 750 to lose.
