My sister keeps trying to convince me to do an acai berry/ colon cleanse diet that she has seen on Oprah. I'm starting to be swayed to her thinking. I'm worried about loosing a bunch of money though considering things like this aren't generally a good idea. Has anyone tried this diet and can help sway me back from the dark side?

I am always deeply suspicious of anything that cleanses my colon. The whole idea kinda wigs me out.

Some people swear by it, but to be honest no one I know who has tried it actually lost any weight.

It's b.s.  All miracle diets, cures, potions etc. are b.s.  If you want to cleanse your colon, just eat properly.  Make sure you eat lots of fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds, whole grains, legumes etc. and get 30-40 grams of fibre a day and you'll have the cleanest colon in town...guaranteed.

Oh yeah, plenty of water too!!!

Tell her NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you do order it or she orders it, please buy it at a health food store and not off the net.  The net is a cash scam that will be your credit card for more than the pills are worth.

I have yet to hear of any real person benefit from the acai stuff. And it doesn't even taste that great. If you think it's a magical juice, head to the grocery store, V8 fusion has an acai mix, then at least you'll have the benefit of getting some veggies so its not a complete waste of money : )

For the life of me, I don't know why anybody would do a colon cleanse.  I have Crohn's Disease and I must have a colonoscopy every year.  The prep is a colon cleanse and you spend all night long on the toilet -- it is not fun.  The acai colon cleanse is just a mild laxative that makes you poop until you think your colon is clean.  You lose weight, but it is water from dehydration!!  Don't do it, its not magic and you will spend way more time in the bathroom than you want!!!!  The only real way to get rid of weight is less calories in -- more calories out.

Yeah this is all pretty much what I figured.

I drink almost ridiculous amounts of water and am big on fiber so i'm pretty sure i'm good. Thanks everyone though.

Anytime you replace food, even temporarily with a liquid you will immediately notice a quick weight loss but it is never long term and having done a colon cleanse previously I can attest that you lose great weight over 2 weeks, then it stops and then when you stop taking the cleanse you gain all the weight back.

Waste of money from my experience unless .... you only want to lose weight for your wedding day or a similar one off experience

My thing is; there are easier ways to cleanse your colon....and those ways help give better habits and help lose more weight in the long run. Just eat clean for a few weeks, drink lots of water, and flush the system right out! And once you've eaten clean for a while, you won't want to go back to eating tons of junk all the time!

doctor say these things are not just useless and waste of money, but also a rick to ones health.

Why do people still take diet advice from Oprah? would you take financial advice from someone who's declared bankrupcy several times? or advice on kicking a drug habit from someone who relapses every few months?
