Confused - Canned Pineapple

Quote  |  Reply

Hi All

I've got a quick question as I'm slightly confused, today I bought a very big tin of Pineapple slices in pineapple juice for breakfast and lunch, the back of the tin says that it is 47 calories per 100grams, the weight of the tin including juices is 820grams but the drained weight is 490grams, how do I work out how many calories are in the full tin, do I multiply it by 8.9 or by 4.9 because 330grams is only juice (which i did drink)? Embarassed

I'm pretty sure the juice is included in the calorie count.  If you eat the whole thing multiply by the big number.

You really ought to be eating more than fruit for both breakfast and lunch, you know.  That's only about 400 calories.

Because you ate the whole can including juice, you simplified things because you can just multiply the calories by the number of servings.

The juice is included in the calories and contains approximately 1/3 of the total calories, per Dole.

When eating servings and not the full can, check how many servings are in the can to help calculate juice calories.  If each serving has 47 calories and the can has 4 servings then that 47cal includes 1/4th the container - both 1/4 the pineapple and 1/4 of the juice.
Thanks for both the responses

I don't normally eat that much during the day, I tend to save my calories for when I go home as thats when I get hungry, I know its not ideal but if I had anymore calories through the day I would go way over my allowance at night Frown

Thanks for posting this question.  I usually toss the juice in my canned pineapple but I never account for the difference in calories - oops!
I don't see how.. You are eating at least 1200 calories a day, aren't you?

FD, it's really easy to add up to 1200 cal.  100 cal coffee, 100 cal banana, 160 cal oatmeal, that's 360 cal already!  So say I eat 1/2 that can of pineapple now for lunch @ 200 cal, now =560 cal.  I too like to eat at home after work, with family or friends that are not counting calories, I need to save for a 500 cal dinner and a midnight snack using up the remaining 140 calories.

I'm sure everybody has there own way of budgeting their calories.

okay, I feel silly now.  I didn't mean to offend or anything, I just see too many already skinny people (don't know if you are or not) try to do really low cal per day.

mmm.. pineapple.  Now I want some.
