According to the thing on here I have a small frame because I can overlap my fingers when I wrap them around my wrist but I have large hand and feet. I've always thought that if you have a small frame then, well, all of you is smaller. I wear a 10 1/2 womens shoe. Granted my feet are long and thin but larger then average. Same with my hands, very long and thin. So should I put medium frame or stick with small?
I am 5' 10" and wear a size 8 shoe, and I would say I was medium framed. A friend of mine was 5' 3" and wore a size 11 1/2 shoe and she had really tiny bones. I go by the wrist measurement, it may not be perfect, but it seems somewhat universal to some extent.
the wrist test isn't particularly accurate. when i was 165+ (at 5'8") that test pegged me as a medium frame, which i knew wasn't accurate. by the time i got down to 150-ish, i was small-framed again.
I'm 5'7" and around 200lbs. I used to be quite small 3 kids ago but I never really thought about frame size. I guess I'll stick with small frame.
Good to know PG! I never even thought of a frame size when I was thinner... Something else to look forward to I guess![]()
Your frame size has nothing to do with your weight. It's a matter of how big (or small) your skeletal structure is. So, by measuring your wrist size, you are estimating your skeletal structure.
I am a radiographer by profession, and I have seen A LOT of bones! Most people guess that they are medium or large frame due to the weight they carry "on their bones". Not unusual as we can't peak inside and really "see" what the accurate bone measurement is. However, gauging from what I see on film, yes, most are small frame with only a very few coming back from xray with those "large bones."
My orthopaedic surgeon also confirmed this when he said I have a small frame. Gee, all these years I've just told people I'm a big German girl meant for breeding! Ha. He also kind of smiled and said that I have small bones buried VERY deep. He was being kind and humerous which I appreciated.
I would follow the wrist measurement for now until you loose some weight and then you might have to readjust your guidelines.
oh the wrist test is useless really. I have an unusually short thumb. I can wrap my fingers just barely around my wrist- does this mean I am a large frame? Probably not. If I use a tape measure I have a 6" wrist - but it was a 6 1/2" wrist 20 lbs ago.
So I tried the elbow method. Basically it attempts to measure the end of the bone at the elbow joint. From this - I have a small frame.
So am I a medium frame? Hmmm....dunno. When I was at my happy weight I wore children's bracelets. Since my BMI then was 22 - I was not underweight. I am saying small frame and I am sticking to it.
i ve always been a well built girl even b4 getting fat
i always thought i was large frame or at least medium
but since i started this i tried every method the wrist diameter - newly adopted by CC- i was below 16 cm i.e. small frame
i can wrap my fingers around the wrist with quite ease - though i ve the longest fingers ever
and the elbow method was the same
it is really strange and the problem is that this means that my goal has to be below 130 lbs -am 5'5"
iam really way far from this point now -189 lbs- and i dont recall ever being below 140 so am not thinking about ir now and aiming for 132
so neglect it and look for the weight u feel comfortable at
and as 4 calories , take the safer one to avoid overeating
good luck
