Hey everyone!
I'm a little confused about my frame size. By using the method of wrapping your fingers around the wrist, I'm considered to have a medium frame size. But when I use the tape measuring method, I end up being large-framed. So now, I don't really know what I am. Anyone else have this problem? If so, how did you decide which frame you were?
BTW, the site I used for the tape measuring is here:

I usually don't trust websites that tell you about frame size. I know I have a small frame (just by comparing myself with other people), but by measuring my wrists, I always get that I'm a medium frame.
I know it's confusing. some sites use elbow measurement. This site gives you the choice, but does it in relation to your height.

You might do it each way, and see if they agree.

I find there is not much consistency across those frame sizes either. I have thin arms (carry all my weight on hips and thighs!) and when wrap my fingers around my wrist they not only touch, they overlap considerably. The elbow measurement however gave me a large frame size, which is way out, I'm bird-boned. In the end I think your best guess as to which frame size you are is probably closest to the truth!
I think this whole frame size thing is kinda... dumb and dangerous.
Truley I know some people are just gonna be thinner than others naturally, but how do you measure frame size and why should you care? For those already too thin it just gives them license to lose more weight because they say "I have a samll frame".
I used to care about it a little until I got on this website and now I see postings all the time that read something like " I am 5' 4" and 110 pounds but I want to get down to 100 because I have a small frame.
Sorry for the rant but it really is not that important in my opinion.... my fingers lap my wrist easily all that means is my fingers are longer than my wrist is wide and that don't mean much.

I believe frame size can make a difference... I have a friend who is the same height as me, and she is built like a linebacker. She is very healthy, eats right, and has very little body fat... and she wears clothing quite a few sizes larger than I do, and weighs quite a bit more. Her shoulders are broad, her arm bones and leg bones are thick, she's got wide hips, a broad face, and thick fingers.
If a person is small-framed, they *know* it, and if a person is large-framed, they *know* it. It is pretty obvious. If it isn't obvious, I would think a person would choose medium.

I'm thinking the whole wrist "rule of thumb" is born out of the fact that the body does have a sort of proportion to it.
In art, they study body proportions, which illustrates that in the average or ideal body (like Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man), the body holds certain predictable qualities. Check out that link there for some common human proportions - I know that my body fits most of these relations.
Just an idea, I could be totally off. But I definitely dig the concept.

I dont think there is a way to really figure it out unless you gauge yourself in the mirror.
If I go by either website posted, or CC's way of figuring out body size, it says I'm small framed. But if you look at my pictures, I'm more medium framed than anything. I just have teenie wrists and ankles.

So what about people like me? I am very small in my upper body. I have a very narrow rib cage and tiny wrists. But I am large framed in my lower body. I have very large hips, and I also cary my weight on my lower body. Should I consider myself to have a medium frame and just be done with it?
I personally think your shoulder width could give some illusions. And frame size matters a lot, some people are born with larger bones, which they can hang more meat on; some with smaller bones which won't allow as much meat on.
I would say, pop in front of the mirror, and figure it out.

Wow! I always thought I was medium build with larger shoulders... both ways say I'm large framed. Hmmm, does this mean I get to eat more ? ::wicked grin::
