Really confused and frustrated--gained 3.6 lbs in a week.

Hi.  I hate to bother you all with another question, but somehow this week Ive managed to gain 3.6 lbs.   I have been eating anywhere from 1500-1900 calories a day, and I have exercised twice this week (40 minutes on the elliptical one day, 30  minutes on the treadmill the other day).   I just cant figure out why Ive gained weight.  A week ago I was at 216.6 and now Im at 220.2.    The only thing that I can maybe think of is that Ive been eating a higher proportion of carbohydrates than I usually do.  Im insulin resistant and have pcos so maybe the carbs are screwing me up.   The carbs I eat though are all whole wheat and whatnot--nothing white.   Im just really confused.

Are you currently on your period?  That can definitely have something to do with it.  Maybe introduce some weight training into your gym routine.

No.  Im not on my period right now.  I usually do a little strength training, just not this week.  However, how  could that make me gain almost 4 lbs.

have you had alot of sodium? Salt retains water and you can gain a couple but then if you behave it should come off in a couple of days! Drink lotsa of water to flush it out.

it might be sodium.  i dont know really.

sounds like water retention to me. a week (7-10) days before my period i will gain about 3-6 lbs and then it will slowly loose for the week i am on and the rest a week after i am done with my period. also sodium can cause the same and like has been said above drink water to flush it out. good luck to  you!

I'd just suggest you keep an eye on it--I doubt it's anything that's even going to be permanent.  No worries!

Happened to me this week, too. Gained 4.6 pounds. I wanted to cry. I lost it all back in three days, might've just been something goofy, but it's gone again. Good Luck.

well i weighed 219 today, so maybe it was water retention and it'll start coming off.   i did eat more lean cuisines this week than i usually do, so maybe its excess sodium from those.

so, its been a few more days and still none of the weight has come off.   i know i have a calorie deficit everyday.  what is going on?   there is no reason that i should be gaining weight or losing weight so slowly.  i seriously lose like 2-3 lbs a month at the most which is extremely slow for someone who weighs 220 lbs.   it doesnt make sense.   i dont know what to do.

1900 calories is a lot if you're  not exercising really hard every day

you have to do more intense work outs and really get your heart rate up when you work  out

what i would do is do interval training at least 4x a week

and down your calories to about 1600

if after a month you haven't lost a lot [ and you haven't cheated] ... get checked for hypothyroid or a hormone imbalance

make sure your write down your calories and measure and weigh your food! get a food scale

you could think something is a certain number of calories when really it's one or two hundred more than what you think
