Confused about gaining.
Hi
I play a lot of sport but used to eat really badly. eg chocolate bars, chips, biscuits, fizzy drink etc every day . I still only weighed about 120pounds (im 5ft7) but my stomach was a bit round. Recently I have started eating much healthier (and probably less cal. ) and have dropped to 110 pounds..my stomach is also smaller etc.. BUT.. I think I need to gain weight.. but I don't want to start eating more and it all to go back onto my stomach..is there anything I can do to stop this from happening? eg.. if I do stomach exercises and increase the amount of healthy food I eat can I gain weight but still keep a flat stomach?
Thanks!!
your BMI (body mass index) is 17.7 so you are DEFINETELY underweight (damn, i'm jealous) but anyways, you CAN gain healthy weight and manage to keep a flatter tummy. first of all, be proud that you recognized there ws a problem and sought a healthy way to fix it.
gaining weight takes times, and honestly, if it all goes on really wuick it WILL cling to your tummy and butt. my advice, eat more fruits, more vegetables, more whole grains and things like cheese, nuts and peanut butter and maybe if you're drinking skim milk switch to 2%.
maybe even incorporating a few more snacks will help. you're supposed to get 5 small meals a day to keep your metabolism on it's toes. so if you're in school, have a snack of an apple and a serving of nuts between your first period and second period classes. then have lunch, then have another snack of some cheese and whole wheat crackers with a banana between third period and fourth period, and if you're hungry after school, go home and have some carrots or an orange or celery with peanutbutter or anything healthy.
and if you really wanna make sure you keep that flat stomach, do 25 situps and crunches in the morning, 25 situps and crunches when you get home from school, 25 situps and crunches after dinner and 25 situps and crunches before bed.
and if you still think you need to eat a little more, have a granola bar and an orange for a snack after dinner or something.
I'm glad you recognize you are underweight and want to tone up. I'm going to have to agree with erica on this one. Do stomach exercises, and be sure to up your calories with healthy foods that are nutritious for your body. Slow and steady weight gain. After building muscle on your body, you are going to naturally have a higher weight since it weighs more than fat. Make sure that you eat more to do so!
If you have any further questions, by all means ask away. We are all here to support you.
