confused about kashi

Quote  |  Reply

i adore kashi products especially their frozen dinners when I'm in a rush at work or just don't feel like cutting up veggies. there weren't any on the site so i started adding them and of the two Ive put in they both have gotten a c grade and I'm not sure why. heres the one i ate today

kashi black bean and mango

340 calories

8g fat

1 g saturated fat

0 trans

0 cholesterol

430 mg sodium

430 mg Potassium

58 g Carb

7 g fiber

11 g sugar

8 g protein

150 % vitimin A       100% vitimin c

the reason i like kashi so much is that i can read all the ingredients on the back of the box ( I'm weird about preservatives) and they are super yummy. but i don't understand why this food is only a c. help?

That's weird, I'm not too sure. The only thing I can think of that MAYBE gives it a C is the 11g of sugar, and the 430mg of sodium. Neither are really that high but....?
Dunno, but maybe it's the sodium.

If I had to guess,  I would say it's the sodium or maybe the sugar. But I don't think the grading tool accounts for the fact that you're getting mostly natural sugars from Kashi.

I myself am absolutely addicted to their granola bars. I eat one almost every morning. And the lunches are so awesome I can hardly ever finish one! Last time I had the Black Bean Mango I had to throw out 4 or 5 bites because it was so filling!

thats really funny, did you enter any of their other dinners? I entered their coconut lemongrass one and the sweet and sour chicken and got B+ for both of them. not too bad

I haven't tried the kashi meals yet sadly, though I do love their golean cereal :) mmm

But I would also agree with everyone else by saying it's probably the sodium or sugar content that's throwing the grade wacky.

On another note, I don't pay ANY attention to the grades CC gives foods.  Look at some of them... some horrible foods get A's and some great foods get D's, so they clearly aren't a sure-fire guideline to go by.  If you look at the ingredients and are able to figure out how healthy it is for yourself, that's all that really matters.

I try not to stress over the letter grades given to individual foods, and instead just try to get a good overall grade for each day.

It's just easier.

=^..^= MOLLY

i agree with molly... i personally love most kashi products and i've found that sometimes the grades on this site are off.. i know it varies for everyone but i just try to focus staying close to my percentages each day (50% carb, 30% protein, 20% fat)
i don't even pay attention to the grades, i pay attention to the nutrition on the label of whatever i'm eating. who decides the grades anyway?
thanks for all the replies guys <3 ill work on not being so paranoid about the grade ^^
