Confused and Need Help, Question about Calories Burned on an Elliptical
I have an elliptical that I did for 60 minutes. This is the routine that I did:
5 minutes - Level 1 resistance
5 minutes - Level 2 resistance
5 minutes - Level 3 resistance
5 minutes - Level 2 resistance
5 minutes - Level 1 resistance
3 minutes - Level 2 resistance
3 minutes - Level 3 resistance
2 minutes - Level 4 resistance
2 minutes - Level 5 resistance
1 minute - Level 6 resistance
2 minutes - Level 5 resistance
2 minutes - Level 4 resistance
3 minutes - Level 3 resistance
7 minutes - Level 2 resistance
10 minutes - Level 1 resistance
It doesn't allow me to program my height, gender, weight or anything. It just is an elliptical that has a heart rate sensor that you have to use when your not moving the arms. It says I burned 340 calories and went 2.45 miles during that 60 minutes. However, when I look up light effort elliptical on CC it says I should have burned 851 calories in 60 minutes. Which one should I go by and which one do you think is more accurate with the up and down resistance? I appreciate any help anyone can give me on this.
CC is assuming that you are going about 8 miles in that hour. Given that you go 2.45 miles the 340 is probably close. I'm 5'7" 140, for instance last night I went for an hour on my elliptical went 8.25 miles and burned 855 calories, during that time my resistance was between 4-5 and my heart rate stayed between 70-85% max. My elliptical has a chest strap and I put in height, weight, age so it is about as accurate as it can get short of testing my breathing. A good rule of thumb is 100 calories per mile, this works for running, walking or an elliptical.
Ellipticals can kick your butt, if you can go for an hour at any speed you are doing great. It has taken me 2 years and marathon training to get to do what I do on my elliptical.
