Confused about new tsh/t4 levels? Should I be worried?
Okay, I'll be the first to admit I don't know much about my hypo, but my latest bloods have come back and my TSH has risen from 3.19 (always between 3.12 & 3.54 on meds) to 5.41, and my T4 levels have dropped from 19.9 (always between 18.5 & 19.9) to 16.6. The Doc hasn't looked at them yet to see if he'll re-assess my dose, but I imagine he'll up it a little? Should I be concerned? It's been 12wks since they were last tested?
The 'normal' range for TSH here is between 0.3-4.5 and for T4 it is 10.6-22.7. They don't routinely test the T3 levels for some reason?
The new numbers could be representative of many things. How long have you been hypo? I was diagnosed 8 years ago and just recently had my dosage increased minutely to keep within the "normal" range. Your doctor is your best advisor and he may want to suggest a new dosage or a "wait and see" diagnosis. Either way, I wouldn't be too worried at this point but I would make sure I had my blood retested within the next 2-3 months.
I was diagnosed a year ago. My initial TSH level was 10.9, but after 6wks on meds it went down to 0.01 so he dropped my dose a little. It settled around the 3 mark since then? Because its always been so steady I was a little alarmed it rose so quickly (6wks from previous bloods)?
Since you were only diagnosed a year ago, your medications may still be adjusting. It took me about 18 months before my TSH stayed at a steady level. I would not be alarmed but do keep an eye on it.
You may want to ask your doctor to test your B-12 levels when you next get your bloodwork done. Just to be sure it's OK. Sometimes a slow thyroid can affect your B-12 levels. It's easy enough to do since you'll already be at the lab having blood drawn.
Where can I see 1/8th or 1/6th of a pie or angel food cake?
This is the best way to picture a portion of pie or cake: Draw a circle to represent the circumference of the cake or pie (9" pie? 10" cake?... Read more
