This confuses me...

Quote  |  Reply
So, people are supposed to take in like, over a thousand calories a day. Sometimes over two thousand. That seems outrageously high to me. My suggested intake is 1800 and that blows me away! No way I can burn off that much in one day. Am I just lazy or something? I need some advice.

You're not supposed to try and burn away your food through exercise, your body does that on it's own, lol. You don't eat 500 then burn off 500. Your body with wither away and die.

Say you burn 2300 just sitting around and breathing, eating 1800 will give you your daily deficit to, hopefully, help you lose a pound. The more you weigh, the more you can eat since your body will burn more just to keep that bulk alive. Also, if you excercise, that gives you more room to munch away. :)

So I'm pretty sure you're burn is alright (since you have no stats and what not). However, I'm not sure what you need advice on. ^^;

Just lying around not doing anything at all I burn an estimated 1500 calories per day.  Every bodily function, breathing, digesting, heartbeat, etc. burns calories...quite a few, actually.  The is called your BMR or Basal Metabolic Rate.  Try googling it and finding a BMR calculator to plug your stats into and it will give you a number.

Every time you move, walk, run, jump etc. you burn even more calories on top of your BMR.

Like the above poster said, you aren't meant to burn off every calorie you eat through exercise.  Most of them are burned off without you having to even do anything at all.  You would basically be starving yourself if you tried to burn off every calorie you consumed.

Since I have a BMR of 1500 calories I eat around that many calories.  I try to move/exercise enough in order to burn a total of 500 extra calories (2000 calories all together).  This means that I end up with a calorie deficit of -500 calories per day.  So far I've lost 1 pound per week for the past 4 weeks.

Use your Eat Meter and Burn Meter.  Just make sure that your Burn Meter reads 500 calories higher than your Eat Meter.  If you do this every day for a week then you should lose a pound by the end of the week.  Everyone is different, though, so you might have to be patient and play with it a little.

oohh! alright this makes sense to me now. but how does the burn meter work?
