Confusing thirst for water with craving for sugar

Quote  |  Reply

I have found that when I am craving sugar that I am really just thirsty.  I think it is years of drinking Koolaid because I don't like water.  I just told a friend about this and she thinks I am nuts.  Am I?

Well, I can't tell you if you are nuts or not, but I crave sweets when i am thirsty also.

i had heard a while back that most people tend to mistake thirst for hunger in general. hence our propencity to be under hydrated and over fed.

At least I am not the only one!

Definitely!  So many times, at night, I find myself trying to figure out something sweet to eat.  Usually, a glass of crystal light (pink lemonade is the best, I think) is perfect.  I think I discovered it, when I realized that the pitcher of crystal light in my fridge was the sweetest thing I could find, and after having some, I felt fine.  I hate drinking plain water at night, though, so it works great.

I would recommend fruit - apple or orange always works for me. Also it keeps away the sleepy feeling after eating, especially lunch.
