I just had to shout out this great news to everybody!

Great news number one:
My hubby has Type I diabetes, and he had high cholesterol for a diabetic, 200 total and 146 for LDL.  His doctors wanted him to go on Lipitor (icky).  We said we wanted to try diet first.  So we went vegetarian, and then really vegetarian (not completely vegan, but close).

That was four and a half months ago, and he just took another blood test.  His total cholesterol is now 163, and his LDL is 108.  Also, his HDL is up and his triglycerides and down.  I mean, that's just amazing!  The stupid thing, though, is his doctor still wants him to go on Lipitor because for diabetics his LDL is supposed to be near 70.  We're rather peeved at the doctor, because we totally think we can be there in a year.

But the conclusion to this segment of good news is:  If you have high cholesterol, go veg.

Second good news:
I'm finally pregnant!  We've been trying for 2 years, and it just happened all by itself.  But honestly, I think part of it has to do with our new diet.  So yay for myself!

(PS:  We are veg for more than just health.  Just thought we would let y'all know that.)

Great news!!! Way to go!!!!

I agree I would rather go the alternative route instead of medicating unless you HAVE too....It is hard to find Dr.'s that agree with that.  I am lucky my family has one!!  I thought my thyroid was acting up and he sent me in for blood test and told me if something came back that we didn't want to see he would let me try it my way first (herbal).  Everything came back normal but I was glad he had given me that option.

Go to the health food store and get a good brand of garlic pills.  To counter-effect the odor garlic gives off alfalfa is good for that and it helps with other things too.

Sooo exciting a new baby on the way.  Here's to great health and a wonderful family!!!
Congratulations! That's awesome, Lazurii!
Congratulations!!!!! That is fantastic!!! It's extremely motivating to hear your success. Keep at it! =)
Yay :) congrats.  Im always all for the natural route before medicating too - when you can do it that way its the way to go and I believe doctors really are quick with those prescriptions.

awesome for the baby news too :)

Thank you so much, everybody.  We're very excited.

Yes, he's taking garlic pills.  I also cook with major amounts of garlic, we just love the stuff.  Anywho, we plan to continue with his diet until his LDL is around 70.  And then we'll probably still stick with this diet.

Thanks again for all the congratulations, even if I did fish for them.  ;)

Yay for the new little one!

Okay, now I need advice:  I'm craving meat.  Hardcore.  I don't know why.  And subsitutes aren't doing it for me.  I think about a greasy cheeseburger from a fast food joint, and I go crazy.  I think about a delicious Boca patty, and I gag.  What gives, and what can I do?  I'm thinking about just waiting it out, because I'm only 9 weeks along (or 11, depending on how you count it) and I should be past my gaggy phase soon, but in the meantime I want to eat meat.

Arggh!
That's great news!

I've been veg a month and a half (but with plenty of lacto-ovo), I'm on both lipitor and lipidil (it's not the end of the world) and this morning I'm going for a blood test. I wonder how my cholesterol levels will turn out? Better, I bet! I have type II diabetes and my blood sugars have been excellent lately:)

I'm sure your baby is happy too being well-fed: hang in there!
How exciting!  Congratulations!
Reading your upbeat, positive post has made my day.  The two of you proved it can be done!  And a new baby!  How wonderful.

The meat craving indicates that you need something.  Try for extra protein and have something with high B12 and iron.

I have been trying to eat more protien, usually in the form of eggs. I get my eggs from my parents' farm, totally cage-free (the birds have access to 60 acres!) and they eat what they want.  Georgeous eggs.  I can tell that's been helping a bit, but it's still so strange for me to totally crave nasty meat products.  Oh well....

And update of the hubby, he's still doing quite well, and he's super excited.  He's already talking to my belly.  So silly....:)
Congratulations!!! You have great news all around!

I have been a vegetarian for 14 years and have had 2 healthy baby boys. Oddly, I craved crab cakes when I was pregnant. To the point of dreaming about them almost every night for a month. I also ate eggs for protein while pregnant and  that seemed to stave off some of the odd cravings. As soon as I hit the 14 week mark it was smooth sailing until the last month.
