When do you consider your goal reached?
I wasn't sure where to ask this so I thought I'd ask the people who reached their goals.
I started my weight loss journey at 70kg and decided to break it up into to two goals. One at 64 kg and my final one at 60kg. Now the scale has hit 64kg and stayed there more or less a week but the trendline is still a bit behind.
Although I will still carry on with my weight loss to reach 60kg, should I consider my first goal met? When did you decide you met your goals?
My goal was to lose 94lbs. I started at 234lbs. So my halfway goal was to be down by 47lbs. so when I just recently saw 187 lbs on the scale ONCE I considered myself halfway there!!!
goals keep on changing after you lose it and the cycle begins... i was like lets get to 115... 110..105...99.. -_-;;yeah. now i'm just trying to stay healthy more than anything!
I consider the goal reached once I've reached it, and maintained it for at least a day or 2 throughout the course of that week.
I know my weight can fluctuate wildly over a few days, so if, for example my goal is 160 (which my next one is!) Once I've had the scale tell me 160 more than once that week, I pretty well convince myself that the scale isn't lying, I'm not dehydrated, I've actually reached that weight :)
(but I still do a little dance when I see it the first time!)
I know what you mean. Almost a month ago now I reached my goal weight, though I am still a little bit bigger than my goal size (which is a "comfy" size 4-- right now I am size 4 unless it's cut tight in the hips/thighs since I am curvy). I got sidelined by a knee injury (overtraining is REAL!) so my butt and thighs have a little jiggle to work on before I'll consider myself "there." My goal was to reach this size/weight by 4/15/09, so I still might make it!!
I am weighing myself less often and obsessing a little less about every little calorie, though I am still eating pretty well most of the time. I am still active and have finally gotten to the place where I feel better doing it than not. Previously, I did it because I knew it would pay off but I really didn't enjoy it. The enjoyment was knowing I'd look better eventually. Now I feel better while doing it and unless I overdo it I feel good afterwards, too. Most of my goals past 4/15 are about fitness and activity. For example, I want to get to the point where doing a freestyle swim pyramid of 25-50-75-100-75-50-25 (meters) doesn't completely gas me for the rest of the day. :)
(Oh, and I totally still do the dance when I see I'm not up!)

this is how EDs occur, no offense. You know you've reached your goal when you're at a "healthy" weight, not too low or too high and you are comfortable in your skin. it's a weight that doesn't require extreme efforts to maintain yet you feel happy when you look in the mirror. sometimes people change their goals because they become obsessed with the scale, i would suggest finding an article of clothing from a time period when you liked the way you looked...not necessarily the weight on the scale, and use it to guide your goal. if you can fit into it no problem, then consider your goal reached. if you don't have a piece of clothing like that then borrow something from a friend who has the body type that you can reasonably and realistic attain and use that, or you can buy something new. i hope this helps :) it's important not to get too obsessed with the number and letting such a superficial marker dictate how you feel about yourself. get healthy, get happy, and learn to love yourself once your goals are reached!! :)
^that's exactly what I'm saying, that's why I said stay healthy, lol.
I know my goal will be/was reached when i am comfortable in my skin and think i look beautiful. I'm pretty much there, and i dont intend to lose any 'real' weight. Just tone up a bit.
My original goal was 115... then I opted for an ideal range weight of 118-124... I attained the 117-118 last year but it was so much effort to maintain it (going to the gym everyday burning at least 600-700 calories) and never binging, no wine, no chocolate... I was miserable...
I now go from 125 to 127 depending of the time of the month and it's easy to maintain, I still go to the gym 4-5 times a week but I enjoy myself more, burn less calories each time (300-400) and I overeat sometimes, I drink wine on the week-ends... like a normal person again... so I'm thinking this is easy maintaining for me...
The number on the scale might not be as low as I want but it's realistic... For sure when I look at myself in the mirror I still see the fat belly but I'm learning to love it (better than the total absence of bust of 117!!!)
Good luck....
My goal will be met when I'm at least 165 lbs.
We have the same goal weight, i_am_nat! I'm getting close - 62kg at the moment. I got stuck at about 63-64 for quite a while though (my heaviest was 67kg.) I say you have met your goal of 64! Don't worry if the scale hangs back for a while, it happens when you don't have much left to lose....if you keep up what you are doing, it will come off! You're doing great, good luck :)
"The Beck Diet Solution" talks about the difference between the "lowest attainable weight" and the "lowest sustainable weight". While reaching a target weight is really exciting, I think it is important to remember the "real" goal: For me it is to break from from compulsive overeating and other ways in which I obsess over food, fat, numbers, etc.
So to put a lot of energy into the literal numeric details of "What is my goal?" would, to me, mean that I was nowhere NEAR my goal, regardless of my actual weight.
