Constant dizziness

Quote  |  Reply

Sorry, I had no idea where to put this, but since I started dieting again I have noticed that if I go too long without eating (about three hours), I get dizzy really quickly.

Cycling and running also do this. It doesn't matter if I eat something - regardless of the food's calorie/salts/water/glucose level, the feeling doesn't go away. Only completely stopping helps. I am not eating a low calorie diet either, in fact I have been at a plateau for the past month or so on 2000 a day. I've had to stop exercising because of the way I end up feeling.

I never used to feel like this when I tried to lose weight in the past. When I was younger (about twelve, four years ago), I lost a lot of weight by just stopping eating completely. I could go for days only drinking water. And in recent years, I have done the same thing (to varying degrees of severity) and come out relatively unscathed. Why do I feel ill now?

I tried to ask my mum about it (she's a doctor) but she didn't seem concerned and told me not to be either. I am worried, though.

are you getting enough water and... is it possible that you have a very low blood pressure considering your fitness level.

Low blood pressure can cause dizzyness and fainting when standing or beinging to work out.

With you running & cycling you likely need to eat more then 2000 cals at 16 years of age.

Also, make sure you are getting enough protein!  It is often not blood sugar that is the problem but inadequate protein.  To find out this number, Divide your weight in lbs by 2.2 to get your weight in kilos, then multiply that by a number between 0.8-1.8.  My nutritionist tells me that the general rule is to multiply your weight in kilos by 1.0, and that's the number of grams of protein you should be getting.  Dizziness may relate to muscle exhaustion, which may be because you're eating the wrong foods, or not enough.  So, use your analysis tool to check your protein levels daily.

You may want to get that checked out by a doctor. I've just been diagnoised with anaemia after going to a doctors for feeling faint/dizzy/weak/tired. I eat at least 2000 cals each day and exercise alot - and always thought I was healthy becuase of that. I need to change the types of foods I eat to get more iron - calories alone are not sufficient, you need to make sure you're getting proper nutrition from them as well. good luck :)

I think it's the protein thing, thanks! I knew it wasn't calories as I only create a 500 deficit even with the cycling and running. I put it to my mum and she seemed to think that made sense, so I think I'll stick with adding more protein (I actually wasn't techincally eating enough of it) for a few weeks :D

Yeah, I recently was experience serious light headedness and muscle exhaustion a few weeks ago, and also realized I was craving milk and eggs like mad, so I did some research.  Turned out many days I was only eating half of the protein I needed!  Putting more into my diet really helped the problem.  Hope it helps for you too!!!
