I am constantly eating!!!

Quote  |  Reply

I am getting SO frustrated because I haven't been counting calories recently but I feel like I am honestly always eating or thinking about the next meal or snack because I have been SO HUNGRY lately. I have been refeeding on my own since mid to late April, and I of course was STARVING then because I was 93 pounds, but I got up to about 103-105ish and then I felt more normal levels of hunger. Recently though I have been snacking SO MUCH, especially at night, and I honestly cannot stop. I am constantly in a state of hunger!

And I started counting up the calories today just because I was curious and I am at around 3,000 already today and I'm planning on eating even more before I go to bed. Is this a normal amount? It feels like so much but I feel like my body is telling me to eat this much. And I still don't feel like I'm gaining any weight!!! Do I just have a particularly fast metabolism?

It's very frustrating and scary though because my family makes me feel like a pig. I ate twice as much as my dad did for dinner even though he is a 6'0" man! Someone please just reassure me that eating a lot is ok and that once I get to a normal weight I won't be bingeing all the time! ED is making me feel fat and ugly lately. :-(

some people need 3000-3500+ calories to gain, the 2500 recommendation is the minimum for gaining so it isn't shocking or unusual for you to need more. you have to stop comparing yourself to others because they aren't sick and their bodies aren't dying for food like yours. what are your stats? are you exercising while trying to gain, that is counterproductive and can increase hunger and the amount of energy needed. make sure you aren't doing any vigorous activities, and don't be afraid to consistently eat 3000 calories, the hunger will dissipate as you get to a healthy weight, rest assured. it's great that you're committed to recovering even though you're not gaining much at least you have the right mindset, now you have to focus on eating enough to get yourself to a healthy weight. if 3000 calories isn't causing a gain then you need to eat more, everyone is different.

I need to eat 3600-4000 calories a day to gain .5 to 1 pound a week.

3,000 isn't that much. And I frequently eat more than my father does - he too is a 6' man, who also happens to work in construction.

I know it is hard, but you cannot compare your needs to someone else's. You are in an entirely different situation, and your body is still recuperating from the starvation period. You are going to need to eat more than someone else your age/size for a long time as your metabolism will stay revved for a while even after weight restoration.  Comparing your intake to anyone elses is apples and oranges - you've got increased needs, and there is nothing to feel guilty about. You are taking care of you, and that's all that anyone could ever ask for. I personally think its really great that you are eating when you are hungry - huge step in recovering from ED. Don't sweat it. When your body is at its "happy place", you'll know.

The total opposite has happened to be recently. Ive began refeding last June, but.. let says it become real refeding on Dic. Since Dic. I was hungry every 2-3 hours, or dependin to what i ate in less time. But this has changed since April my hunger has reduced lots. In my appointment wiht the bnutrionist of April I didnt gain any way (I was in that time 48kgs). Then in my appointment of May I did gain, but the only problem is that I also grew 3 cms. So that meaned that according to my heaight i needed to weight more. So my new goal was not 51kg but 54kg.

My hunger has reduced so much that I have to forced myself to eat my moring snack at around 11! I had reduced a lot of my eating, my luches are some day just sandiwcihs. I  try my best to reach at least 2 200 calories per day.. But just like from June to Dic is always imposible. I WANT TO GET HUNGRY AGAIN! I MISS BEIGN HINGRY! HELPP ME PLEASE..

PD: I think i may have lost 1-2kgs again.Im 14 years old, height 166cm and my current weight 51kg (or maybe 50-49kgs becuz the posible kgs i may have losT).

i am in the SAME spot. i began refeeding at the end of april. i think about food constantly and i feel like i have to restrain myself from eating until i burst. i have eaten 3,000-5,500+ calories every day since then and still have weight to gain. all of these calories are being put to good use and are saving your life, basically. this does get better over time. your body is building up nutritional stores and muscles and it's trying to get to a healthy weight, and that explains all the urges and food fixation. it's just your body's way of getting you to gain weight by making you think about food all the time (and damn does it work.) this will get better once you are fully nourished, at a healthy weight, and have been eating consistently for a long period. there's that saying, "you didn't get sick overnight; you can't recover overnight." it just takes time. what you are experiencing is completely normal and just a necessarily evil on the path to health.

i'm just trying to get the best out of it and enjoy food. try to have fun with eating- go to the store and buy foods you have denied yourself because of your ED. go eat something you used to enjoy as a kid. you are working so hard to nourish yourself and love your body and it's okay to start to enjoy eating more.

hang in there- things will only get better from here on out.

i've just begin refeeding and i consume like 8000 calories at least per day. i feel rather horrible. but i look on the bright side(: i get to enjoy food. restore my body health and i'm revving up my metabolism!!

It's your body's logical response to you starving yourself.  What's the number one cause of binging?  Starvation/not eating enough.  But it's NORMAL.  It will pass.  Try to follow your meal plan (if you have one) and if  not, follow your hunger cues.  This is probably the hardest thing in the world.  But just know that you are not alone, and you NEED the extra food. Your body knows what it wants and needs to stay healthy.

Hey guys, remember it's not all about calories here. Well it is but where you get the calories from. (Protein, carbs, fat.)

To be honest I'm not sure what the best ratio would be for a recovering anorexic. I really am pretty ignorant on the subject but IMO eating too much could just lead to a vicous cycle. (Binge - starve - binge) Find your balance.

ps ~ 3000 calories a day is fine for you, just be mindfull of where they are coming from.  25% protein,  55% carbs, 20% fat, for recovery would be good I think.
