Constantly feeling tired?

Quote  |  Reply

hi guys,

i started counting calories and eating healthy about 2 months ago. I like beigns strict with a diet. like avoiding unhealthy things. however ever since i started the diet im feeling totally drained. It's not like im under eating though... im eating 2500 calories a day!!

I exercise a lot. some days i burn 1200 calories while running alone. Plus i cycle, swim, walk. and do everything in between.

So what's my problem. according to this website im eating the correct amount of calories on average per day. but im so drained..

any advice please??

and some days i even eat more calories than im using... but i still feel drained!! i dont understand it!

I'm feeling drained too, but I think for me it is a combination of coming back on vacation in Colorado to hot and humid weather, and sinus problems.

It sounds like maybe you have over-trained??  You need to be sure to take a few days off of the diet and heavy exercise every once in a while, where you take it easy and eat your maintenance calories.  Check and make sure that you do not have more than a 1000 calorie deficit - Even though you are eating 2500, if you are exercising a lot, you still might not be eating enough.

Another thing to consider is whether you are getting enough water, and enough variety in your diet.  Either one can contribute to fatigue.

Good luck.

I am having the same problem too. This is only week 2 for me and week 1 started out great but now that i'm working out longer I'm feeling so drained during and after my exercise.I figure I was not eating enough calories daily. So I plan to increase my cal intake just a lil bit and see how that goes. I was even thinking about drinking a soy protein again since that gave me energy before when I worked out. Keep in touch and let me know if you resolve your issue. I'll also let you know if my energy changes in result of my increase cal intake.:-)

The following is a copy of a post from yesterday.  Morning motivation is the title.  Anyway after you eliminated medical reason behind u being tired you might want to try some of these tips.......

I am so having the same exact issues this week.  For weeks now I've been exercising before work.  But this week, I just can't seem to get my a** in gear.  This morning I hit snooze like 20 times.  B/c of my lack of motivation and feeling really tired I even went to the doctor yesterday.

One thing he said to me was to listen to my body, it just may need a break (i've been pushing really hard).  I didn't like that answer so I spoke to my friend who is a personal trainer...she agreed with him.  But she had a few things to add.

1) Sleep with the A/C on. Apparently you rest better in a cooler environment which may help getting up in the AM.

2) Get a buddy.  (Which I thought was impossible since I don't belong to a gym.) But her suggestion was to find someone to call or video conference or meet with at 6:30 to make sure both of us are up and moving.

3) Then the usually: plenty of water, rest, eating balanced, enough cals but not too many and my favorite another alarm clock across the room so I have to get out of bed to turn it off.  Theory being once your feet are on the floor you have no reason not to get going.

I hope these tips help you too. I'm buying an a/c today for my bedroom :-)

Good Luck

The thread had other suggestions like add a liquid b vitamin (which I tried today and seemed to help). As well as other points.

theflash800, i believe it is one of these:

1- not getting enough sleep. e.g: you sleep very late and you get up early.

2- working out a lot with no proper food. why don't you calculate the calories that you burn during exercise then compare with what you eat. if the deficit is more than 500-700 cals a day, then yes, you will be very tired.

3- if none of the above, then try to see a doctor and get your blood test done. maybe you have anemia and you need to increase your iron intake. I used to be tired ALL the time , but now I know why. iron deficinecy was one of the reasons i felt very tired.

good luck.

Could you give us a sample menu of what you are eating daily? Pasta and cheese are both energy-draining foods, if you are eating too much of those, this may be the cause. It would be better to eat only meat and vegetables in meals, with no, or a little bread.

I disagree with this; it is energy-draining if you eat MOSTLY simple refined carbohydrates like white bread or pasta. It is not better for you to eat no or little breads and grains, especially if the OP needs at least 2500 cals a day.

I was like this...but I'm anemic.  Ask your doc?

I didn't say that you can't eat bread throughout the day. I said that it can be energy-draining if you eat too much of it in combination with meat.

Even brown pasta can be energy-draining! It is better to choose for other kinds of grains or whole wheat bread.
