I wanted to start having a fruit smoothie for breakfast but I am afraid I am consuming too much sugar from the fruit. I am not a big fan of fruit so my choices are limited. My question is, is it bad to consume a lot of sugar from blue and rasp berries in my smoothie in the morning? The entire recipe goes like this:
1 scoop whey protein powder 1 tablespoon Milled Flax Seed 1/2 cup frozen Blueberries 1/2 cup raspberries 1/2 cup 1% milk 3/4 cup bran flakes.
for lunch i typically have a 6 inch subway sub on wheat with veggies, sometimes cheese and ranch, most of the time with mustard.
for dinner i usually eat some whole grain pasta and vegetables or macaroni and cheese...On occasion i eat things like chocolate donuts or brownies.
A lot of the concern around sugar is more towards the processed sort. Some complex sugars in your diet are no problem
As for raspberries and blueberries, both have a low glycemic index, meaning that they have longer lasting energy, don't cause an insulin spike, and won't be as likely to lend to any problems with cravings and crashes the way simple sugars can. So good choice!
Many fruits are crazy nutrient and antioxidant rich, and can most certainly be worth a bit of sugar for the benefits they provide.

I like to juice fresh fruits on the weekends, what a great replacement for caffine in coffee and teas. I actually get more of an energy boost from juicing-I found that out the hard way when I tried to have fresh juice before going to bed :)
thank you both for the replies
