Should I continue to exercise if I'm in pain?
I understand that if exercise is hard then I'm doing it right but what if I am all of the sudden getting bad cramp like pains and muscle pain while exercising. Is it right to push myself to the end or should take it as a sign to stop? I jog and hula hoop and dance etc. While exercising.
I have been doing these things for about a week and a half and I still have trouble with soreness. I have never experienced the part of fitness where it gets easier. for me I always think exercise=pain and I know that's not a great way to look at things but that's what my body tells me all the time so it's kinda hard to ignore.
I'm female. 22 years old and 121 pounds. I'm trying to at least maintain my current weight.
Pain - Stop
Soreness - Keep Going
If you are getting cramps while jogging, I would work on controlling your breathing. 1 method I do that helped me alot is for every 4 steps you take, breathe in through your nose, then the next 4, breat out through your mouth.
I do that for the entirety of my jog, it works wonders for me. Controlling your breathing. The natural tendency is to breather extra fast while exerting yourself, and I think that causes cramps.
Also, make sure you are warming up a little first before jogging, start with a short walk, then start slow on the jog, slower pace the first 5 minutes or so minimum, then get up to your normal speed.
Be consistent, stick with it, it will get easier!!!
I agree, soreness keep going. Cramps you need to stop and work out the cramp of it's going to get worse and your exercise will be severly limited. You can try looking at your diet. For some people eating more bananas reduces cramps, calcium (TUMS if you need it now) or some other deficiency.

Stop.
Thanks everyone! I think it could have been me not breathing or warming up correctly. I'll have to work on those things.
Also watch that you are hydrating yourself sufficiently while exercising as dehydration can cause some muscle cramping so have water with you while exercising and don't dry out. As others have said sore is good, pain is your body telling you to stop.
Unfortunately, the only way I've gotten rid of them is by slowing down my running pace. It kinda sucks, since I'm training for a race, but I was getting nowhere when I was having to stop every mile because of my side stitch.

Are you getting side stitches? Severe pain near your liver? I got those for months, it was completely awful. If I didn't stop running, the pain became so unbearable I felt like passing out.Unfortunately, the only way I've gotten rid of them is by slowing down my running pace. I have pain when I hula hoop sometimes where my incisions are. I had gallbladder surgery over a year ago. I would think I would be fine to exercise now though. :(

i was just wondering because i have a 4-lb water hoop, i ordered it thinking heavier equals a better workout. wrong...its easier, but omg it hurts! i feel bruised after using it. weird. thus my question... it may be that your hoop and your body arent real fond of each other. if so, lose the hoop!
