I have a can of whole natural Blue Diamond Almonds in front of me, and a bag of whole natural Compliments almonds.

Blue Diamond:
Ingredients: Almonds
50g serving:
Calories: 290
Fat: 25g
Carbs: 10g

Compliments:
Ingredients: Almonds
50g serving:
Calories: 270
Fat: 16g
Carbs: 19g

Why is the fat and carb count so different between the two brands? It's the same product...

Maybe you'll get clue from the ingredients list.  Sometimes nuts are roasted in fat or oil.  Also, if the Complements almonds are raw they will be less dense than the roasted almonds.  The roasted almonds are drier.

That was the first place I looked...

Hey, as clairelaine was saying, the Blue Diamond Almonds are probably roasted in oil which explains the extra fat. And the Compliments Almonds may be raw.

If they were roasted oil would be in the ingredients.  I would assume its seasoning (msg etc.) not an ingredient per se, but can add carbs.  Sounds fishy anyways!

Check this out!  Notice the "sugar" in the carb section, there is no sugar in natural almonds.  I found this nutrition label for compliments almonds online.

Nutrition Facts
Serving Size: 1/2 bag (50.0 g)

That's interesting... but if there was added msg and sugar, it would be in the ingredients list too... i'm pretty sure that anything that's added would be included in the ingredients...

I can't explain the discrepancies, but I usually go to the USDA nutritional database if I see that kind of difference in natural, uncooked foods

Thanks for the site! I bookmarked it. I thought I knew all of them

interestingly, according to the USDA site that coach-k provided, there is sugar in raw almonds.

... just check CC database too and it also says there is some "sugar" in almonds.

Is it possible that they could be from different varieties of almond? or grown in different areas with different nutrients available to them? Laughing

yea i think thzat claire is right..
