How can I control eating during the night?

During the day time, I don't like to eat so much, but during the night when I am studying, I crave too much. I browse Internet and used to even bake cakes at midnight. I love to see the recipes and like to eat and eat and eat, but I’m never hungry at these times. What should I do?
Answer
You might have Night Eating Syndrome (NES), a disorder of eating, sleep and mood. NES is characterized by having no appetite for the first part of the day, but then eating more than half of the daily calorie intake between 8:00 PM and the next morning, whether or not hunger is present. NES has a genetic basis but will only become apparent during times of stress. Night Eaters prefer carbohydrates, which are used to self-medicate by triggering the brain to produce soothing neurotransmitters. NES is effectively controlled by the prescription medication, Zoloft, as well as by relaxation, visualization and adopting a structured pattern for meals.
