How can I control my mad eating binges?
Asked by nicenow on Apr 03, 2009 in Emotional & Behavioral Issues

Once or twice a day, I have mad eating binges on sweet stuff.  How can I control that?

Answer

Try to understand the reason for your “mad binges”?   If you are very hungry because your intake hasn’t been substantial or consistent, then eat regular meals with enough food to dispel the urge to binge.  If you are “using” carbohydrates to deal with stress (although sugar addiction has not been proven), then “feel your feelings” and find a way to relieve stress without “using” sugar.  Or if the binge is an excuse for surrendering to temptation, then you’ll have your view of your personal power.  But if your binges are truly out-of-control and accompanied by self-loathing, then you should see a trained professional for diagnosis and treatment of possible binge-eating disorder.
