Cook Yourself Thin

Quote  |  Reply

Does any one watch this show? I'm kinda on the fence about it. I like the recipes and they seem really tasty EXCEPT for some of the cakes with squash and beets?? I generally like the chicks on it but they too can get a little too sweet and smiley for me.  They also calculate your target wieght by multiplying by 10. So if you want to be 120 eat 1200 cal. Can it really be that simple? Thoughts and opinions??

I've not heard of this show, what channel is it on? From what you just said this seems at least entertaining to watch. :o

Edit: I found full episodes online! :o

I've heard of the x10 thing, it's a good ballpark for an average but the tools here are way more accurate taking into account other factors like height age etc.

I've seen the show, I think, is it the one where they take someone's calorie-laden meals and lighten them up? If so, I was not all that impressed, I can "lighten" recipes up much better Tongue out...but it's still really nice to watch a cooking show where they are concerned with calories and nutrition and such.

I definitely like the idea behind the show, though I do find the three women sickeningly sweet sometimes-- particularly the British woman.

While I think there are some kinks to work out, it's nice to see more programming geared towards the problem solving it sometimes takes to cook healthier meals.

The x10 thing is also only a good ballpark if you're an average size...  I'm awfully short (as in below 5') to say that I should be eating 900-950 cals to get to my goal weight is kinda ridiculous.

I just watched an episode and the recipes are pretty neat. But I found while watching it that I can replace some of their stuff with better stuff to bring down the calories in the recipes even more.

Other than that, I think the show is pretty cool. :) Those Quesadillas look so yummy.

I was wondering about the x10 thing as well? I had never heard of it, it fairly makes sense, but I agree with the poster victoriagirl, the tools here are much more accurate. Also, do they take into consideration working out? because I want to be back to my 120 pound self, BUT I am working out 5 days a week, sprinting and kickboxing. I think if I ate 1200 only to get there, I would get sick or something? any thoughts? GI Jane where are you at girl? I know you can help with this one?

I believe it's just calories in and calories out. I don't think they incorporate exercise because you'd have an unhealthy deficit.

i really don't agree with that 10x calorie thing. i don't see how 1200=120 lbs when i was eating 1200-1400, sedetary and lost down to 94lbs...and i don't have an amazingly fast metabolism.  it's simply not  much food and people would comment at how little i ate in general.

We have a show like this in Canada called "Eat, Shrink and Be Merry".  While I like the idea, I'm very skeptical about their healthier recipes as the hosts have a tendency to change the dish so much that it doesn't much ressemble the starting dish.  So, the new recipes might be tasty (or they might not - bread pudding does *not* need to be ruined by mashed banana, thank you), but they're really not substitutes for the original.
