Cooking capelin

Quote  |  Reply

Does anyone know how to cook capelin without rolling them in flour and frying them?? Can you grill them without them sticking to the grill or drying up??

If you choose to grill them, brush with oil first to prevent drying out.  Mind you, if you use a non-stick frying pan and just a little good quality olive oil, fried fish in breadcrumbs or flour is a very healthy option.

Thanks. I'm on day 5 of low carb eating though. I figure I'll weightlift every second day, and eat carbs around my workout, and eat next to no carbs on the days in between, so today is a really low carb day. I'm trying to avoid flour. But I will try your grilling suggestion. I tried that with trout before and they kind of stuck on, but maybe if I used a little more oil....

Newfie!

i just toss them in the oven 450 degree, salt, peper, and dried chilli sprinkled on top... 8 minutes on each side.

done, so yummy. not deep fried, no oil needed (unlike other fishes, capelin you actually want dry so the roes get crispy) yum~
