cooking English peas?
I hope this isn't stupid. I've been buying fresh produce at the farmer's market, but I don't know what to do with it. :|
Specifically, I spent a pretty penny this morning on English peas. They're beautiful, and I've actually got to shuck them. But after that... I don't know. I eat my peas either out of the can or out of the freezer and pretty much boil them until they're warm.
Any suggestions?

while you're shelling them, try a few raw!
You can steam them, just like any other vegetable, or blanche them by dropping into boiling salted water for about 5 minutes, or you can cook them the French way.
Place a few leaves of lettuce, or shredded lettuce in the bottom of a sauce pan with a tablespoon of butter and 4 tablespoons of water. Put the peas on top. Heat until the water is boiling, then turn down the heat and cover. Simmer very slowly for about 10 minutes. You can eat the cooked lettuce with the peas or discard it.

Well, being that i eat yummy peas here! Pod them, and put them in some water... boil for 5-10 mins. NO salt. Comes out yummy as yummy can be! Salt ruins the flavour of peas.
The "French way" is with the lettuce leaves? I'll try it! Tonight. Sounds like a fancy method. It'll be interesting to see if the peas taste any different.
Thanks for the ideas.
(P.S. I really need to get a steamer.)
