Cooking novice, need some help! Shrimp and pasta
So I'm making my first dinner for my core group of friends tomorrow night. :) I only have a few things on hand though...I can afford to buy an extra ingredient or two, but not too much. I have some whole wheat angel hair pasta, some frozen cooked shrimp, some italian breadcrumbs, and some olive oil....i can cook with this all, right? I guess I'm just not sure on how or what to mix....I know the basics, but I'm just starting out cooking things that don't come in a prepackaged bag, so I'm not completely sure how! :) If anyone has any suggestions using these or adding or changing a few things, I'd be incredibly grateful! I really want to make this well so I can show them I can cook! :)

Hi Linda - I hope this is an appropriate suggestion; I always try the Food Network web site; they have so many recipes, you're bound to find something. If you search the recipes on this site for 'shrimp' and 'pasta', I assume you'll also get some ideas. Off the top of my head, I would think that some herbs would be in order (oregano, fresh parsley) and perhaps some cheese (feta?). If you have a Trader Joe's close by, you can try their fresh salsa - that would bring the pasta and shrimp together.
Ohh you don't need too much at all. The olive oil, shrimp and pasta would be delicious with some garlic added and parsely added at the very end. Also, if you have some white wine you could add a cup or so of that and cook it down. It gives it a very nice tangy taste. Just saute the shrimp with garlic, and a little bit of olive oil, add the white wine and simmer. You could also add some veggies. Asparagus, sun-dried tomatoes, and/or artichoke hearts come to mind.
I do this often. It's great. I also like to add a little crushed red pepper at the end to give it a little kick. This is optional though.

Here's how you do it -Thaw the shrimp and bring a very large pot of water to a rolling boil for your pasta. In a large skillet or saute pan, heat some olive oil. If you have any garlic, add that and cook just until it sizzles. If you don't, garlic salt or garlic powder added later will be fine. As ssbuckeye said, add a little wine or chicken broth. Since the shrimp are already cooked, all you have to do is get them hot. I like the suggestion of adding vegetables to this mixture to make the dish more interesting and better balanced. All this can be done while the pasta is cooking. Strain the pasta and add about a cup of the pasta cooking liquid to the pan. Put the pasta in there and toss over low heat. Grated cheese served with it is good
Thanks guys! :) I'll let you all know how it turns out and how I made it! :) There's so many options, I love it! Keep 'em comin'!
