What's your strategy?
Here's mine:
1) I only buy stuff i don't particularly care for - in my case, anything that doesn't contain chocolate, particularly Reese's and snickers. So something like sweet-tarts or licorice or lollipops.
2) At the end of the night, when Halloween is winding down, I leave any leftover candy in a bowl on our front step. Inevitably, the teenagers come by and empty it all out.
3) I allow my kids to gorge all they want on Halloween, and the day after. I may also permit myself a little indulgence - if they are willing to share with me.
3) On day three, we dump the rest in the trash. YES! maybe it is wasteful. but oh well... better in the trash, than clogging our arteries.

Ha! Jen, I think it's more "wasteful" or maybe "waist-full" to eat the junk!
I like the idea of leaving the leftovers out on the porch. (Now, if I can get my hubby and teenagers to agree...) Otherwise, I just have to make sure to include everything in my log, and leave room in my calorie budget for a few treats.

EXACTLY!
Ive learned of many folks who know offer to have there kids keep some of there candy but 'buy' the rest. Seems like a healthy option for kids as long as its voluntary, especially for kids who collect crazy amounts (we used to take pillow cases and collect tons!).
Another idea is too bring leftover candy to work - we always used to talk at work about craving candy or chocolate, specially late afternoon. Plus you'll be extra popular LOL

You could give the extra to a homeless shelter or something.
i don't care. i'm not losing weight anymore and on Halloween, I'm going all out!! Here I come peanut M&M's!!!!!!!
When I was younger (and my mom still does it at my old school) we would have parents or kids at my school bring in their extra candy after Halloween and with permission from the nursing home, go to various nursing homes to give it out to residents. A lot of the people there didn't get many visitors nor could afford to buy treats, and 99% of them could fit a snack size treat of some sort into their diets, whatever health problems they had. So it was a great situation all around, we got to get rid of extra candy we didn't need and share our time and candy with people it really cheered up.
I'm sad because I moved to Philadelphia and now there are no places to go trick or treating or kids that will come trick or treating. :(. I'm allergic to everything so I can't really eat any of the candy but I just liked the idea of gathering all that candy and then dumping it in to a pile! lol.

Build a large bonfire in the front yard. Dance around it nude in giving of thanks to the gods for a bountiful harvest, as is tradition. This also keeps parents from bringing children by for candy. This also has the added benefit of physical activity. Downside is that if you live on a public street they might come arrest you. (Either way candy problem solved)
OMG Beast!!!! I LOVE this idea...LOL!!!
Actually, several years ago I decided to let other neighbors give out the sweets. I go to a movie or something. Just couldn't handle having candy or snacks of any kind around. And by that time most of the "kids" in my neighborhood were much too old to be out tricking for treats!
Must say though, that I miss being a kid when you could trust the stuff the neighbors handed out...things like apples and popcornballs! One neighbor used to have a coffin set up in the living room filled with donuts, cookies and cider! Ah, the good ole days...sigh....
