I always try to get my protien in during the day on these corn spurges.
do you do any "odd" dinners like this?
My parents never really used to let us have corn cause it was considered "an unhealthy veggie". not quite sure why?
Corn isn't an unhealthy veggie, but it is higher in calories and carbohydrates than many other veggies.
Still that's a terrible dinner.
once a week will not kill you or your "diet" presuming you don't bury it in butter and salt (I use the Olivio spray, works great!)
I myself am a fan of the "breakfast for dinner" meal and have been known to order pancakes and a salad at a restaurant.
Enjoy!
mmmmmm I love having breakfast for dinner too!
Once a year, when the first corn is harvested from our garden we have a whole meal of corn on the cob.
Mmmm, now I want to go and have corn! Do you have it from a grill? Plain corn on the cob, grilled, is one of my favourite summer foods. These types of meals I think are completely normal and you just have to use common sense. Are you eating enough for the day or only having food from one group? Use your judgement (and/or the tools here) to make sure you are eating proper ratios and I don't see anything wrong with enjoying the harvest, plus it is nice to have those sorts of family rituals.
It sounds to me like you are doing just fine with this. You say you get in your protein and other nutrients earlier in the day, and corn is so delicious and full of good fiber.
I love to buy the freshly picked Silver King corn from the Amish farmers. I shuck it and drop it into boiling water as soon as I get home. I only cook it for a few mintues. I have some then, and put the rest into the refrigerator to eat as a snack - better for me than crackers or chips! I like it absolutely plain, and I actually eat it cold.
Corn is the food of the week on the World's Heathiest Foods website, meaning that it is currently in peak season.
Here is all about corn:

Or, just what you really want to know. :)
"Corn is a good source of vitamin B1, vitamin B5, folate, dietary fiber, vitamin C, phosphorous and manganese."
So I guess it has more nutritional value than I thought. It's just the butter that kills it. But if you haven't tried grilling corn yet, it's a definite must.
we normally boil it for 5 min, I use spray butter and mortons lite salt, I have to have salt on it!
heck, if you have had all your nutritional requirements fulfilled for the day, and are eating 6-7 small meals to keep stable blood sugar, there is nothing wrong with that once a week or so.
my kooky meal has to be guacamole. guac and a crisp tortilla instead of chips - not the best dinner, but i do that about once a month.
or keep four leaves of the husk on (enough to cover it), soak the corn in water for 1/2 hour then grill it for 15 minutes or so.
one sytle grilles and sweetens the corn, and the second steams it.
Oh shoot! I wish I were at home with my recipe book.
The first time I tried it, I basically pulled the leaves off, brushed it with butter, and threw it on the grill.
After that, I started getting fancy. I think I soaked the ears; pulled back the leaves (without pulling them off complete); removed the silk; sprinkled with butter, dill, and paprika, etc.; pulled the leaves back up around the ear; and tied them in place with a bit of string. Then I threw the ears on the grill. Keeping the leaves on prevents the kernels from blackening, and keeps the moisture and flavorings in.
I like boiled corn. I love grilled corn. I could probably give better instructions after referencing my cookbook. :)
mono diets are actually prescribed to people who have digestive problems because its easier on the system to only deal with a few foods at a time.
its good for you to rotate in seasonal veggies and fruits.
thats sounds totally fine to me. its like 400-500 cals. good count on that. it has almost 5 grams of protien per ear and 5 grams of fiber...also good stuff!
i just think that if you eat a narrow spectrum of food you should take a multivitamin and you will be fine.
