Cottage Cheese -Eeeewww or Whoohoo??
I am trying to up my protein intake since I don't eat meat- I have never liked cottage cheese but heard it has alot of protein and is more filling than greek yogurt.
I bought some today-small curd (even that word is distasteful) with pineapple in it. At first spoonful I thought, hmmm not bad, but by the third forget it. I think it is the texture-if it were spread on a cracker-maybe... but that sort of defeats the purpose since I am trying to stay relatively low carb.
Has anyone gotten over this??? Is there a brand that is better?
Hello! What I do is cream it in a food processor. When it is done it has the texture of yogurt and you can still mix fruit in it!! Hope this helps!
Hi --
A lot of people don't like the consistency of cottage cheese, myself included. I do however like large curd cottage cheese. It's got a little more texture too it. I put it on a slice of toast for an afternoon snack. Now Arnold's has these rolls out called Sandwich Thins -- 100 calories for top and bottom of the roll, and a good amount of fiber and protein. They are kind of the perfect bread for me. About 1/4 cup of large curd cottage cheese on 1/2 of these is the perfect snack in the late afternoon. Hood makes large curd cottage cheese; otherwise, it's a little difficult to find.
I could never eat cottage cheese with fruit in it. It always seemed a little too runny to me (how's that for a nice word to go with curd. . . .).
Good luck!
I can't stand fruit in cottage cheese. Just thinking of it makes me want to hurl. One of the ways I do enjoy it (besides straight out of the container) is on a simple salad of lettuce, tomato and cucumber. If you like celery, you could also put the cottage cheese in the blender, with a little fat free ranch dressing and use it as a dip (fat free cottage cheese isn't as good for this as the 1%). I have also blended cottage cheese with plain non-fat yogurt and cayenne pepper and used it as a vegetable dip as well.
Cottage cheese is okay. I don't love or hate it. I put it in the food processor, as well, to make dips. I love doing this as an way to make veggies more palatable.
woohoo!!
i love it because i eat it in lots of different ways. here are a few goodies...
- on a baked potato/sweet potato
- in a tortilla/wrap type bread with either some fruit or jam or w.e.
- in oatmeal with whatever toppings you like
- with cereal i replace milk with it
- on crackers
- plain! if im gonna eat it plain i usually go for the kind that has pineapple mixed in or put some cinnamon sugar on it
:)
I love it. you can do a lot with cottage cheese. blending cottage cheese and your fav fruit or veggies in a blender is a great idea.
you can also use it to make a great smoothie.
I like savoury cottage cheese. Can't stand it with fruit or other sweet things! I don't even really like it on its own. Things I like to do with cottage cheese (that I find very tasty):
- Mix with diced tomatoes and herbs or black pepper
- Mix with cooked pasta so that it's serving as the "sauce". I might add herbs or black pepper. Good with either regular or whole wheat pasta.
ew. unless it's in lasagna.

totally agree.
I like the large curd as well - its much better than the small curd! And... did you get the kind with pineapples already in it? Those tend to have lots of added sugar... you'd be better off with some whole wheat crackers!
I'm veg too.. cottage cheese is a great protien source! I think some brands taste kind of funky though (friendship... ew). Hood non fat is good.
My two fav ways are:
1. put it on a baked sweet potato with black beans
2. mix it with PB2 or peanut butter and use as a topping for a whole wheat english muffin... or just eat it plain. The PB gives it a much creamier texture.. so good!
I hate cottage cheese because of the texture, but I think I will try putting it in the blender. Thanks for the suggestion guys!
At first, I hated cottage cheese. Now, I love it! I eat Friendship no salt added 1% cottage cheese. Here's how i typically enjoy it:
- mixed with FiberOne (or other cereal) for breakfast
- used as a sandwich filling
- mixed with cinnamon, eaten plain
- as a baked potato topping
- mixed with yogurt
- straight out of the tub!
I love cottage cheese! It's all right with fruit, or with a little bit of no-sugar-added jam or preserves. I also like it with a little lemon pepper or old bay seasoning on top. Mostly, though, I just like it plain. I guess I'm a little unusual that way! Whenever I buy it, it never lasts long because I just want to eat some with every meal!
Cottage cheese is great mixed in with some plain salad to mix the texture up a bit and make it super filling.
Try and find some chive & onion cottage cheese: It's way nicer than plain cottage cheese.
umm yeah i think cottage cheese taste like sabelle
If you've tried it tons of ways and you still don't like it, well, you just don't and you can't "make yourself" like it. I'd try for alternative quick snack protein sources.
Check the rest of the forums out, there are lots of suggestions for high protein snacks.
I love cottage cheese with fritos, one of my favorits snacks, but the fritos not so good so I substituted pretzles for fritos. Anything saltys and crunchy that I can just scoop the cottage cheese up in. Yum!!!!
here are my meals with cottage cheese
cottage cheese, splenda, grapes, and blue berry syrup
cottage cheese, splenda, jello whipped cream and hersheys 15 cal choco syrup
cottage cheese and cold or warm baked apples (my favorite!)
cottage cheese mixed with yogurt any type of sugar free jelly and some granola
melted strawberries (:
many more!
I also learned to like it because I don't eat much meat. It can be done! I now love cottage cheese as a topping on salad. I also really love the chive flavored kind. I do hate how much sodium it has... I tried buying the low sodium kind and then adding my own stuff to it and it was just awful :( Definitely try it on greens with cucumbers and grapes though. It really bulks up a salad and is a quick way to add some low-cal protein.
I learned to love it by eating those Breakstone's Doubles. It's pretty much just like adding fruit preserves.
I've also been known to add it to a veggie wrap as a substitute for mayo or regular cheese. You might really like it this way! The texture is much less noticable when incorporated into the wrap.
How can I make walking fun?
You have to find a way to make exercise fun or else you won't do it. If you walk indoors on a treadmill, I recommend moving outdoors into the fresh air... Read more
